Happy fair season everyone!
Being that it's county fair season it's important to take extra steps to ensure everyone is safe, happy, and healthy. Including animals!
Biosecurity is the practice of preventing the spread of diseases. Practicing good Biosecurity is very beneficial for farms, business', many agricultural industries, and animal exhibits at the county fairs!
As an exhibitor taking animals to the fair here are Biosecurity recommendations that you can take to ensure your animals are going to be safe and healthy while at the fair!
At The Fair remember to:
- Report health concerns to a veterinarian.
-Not share equipment with other exhibitors.
-Minimize nose-to-nose contact with other livestock.
-Minimize animal-to-human contact.
-Avoid use of communal water sources.
-Minimize animal stress by keeping them cool and comfortable, and providing food and water from home.
If you're also caring for animals at home while exhibiting at the fair:
- Do the chores at home first.
- Change clothes to care for the animals at home and at the fair.
- Wash your hands with soap and water and dry them well.
Before Returning Home:
-Clean and disinfect all equipment (tack, buckets, shovels, wheelbarrows).
-Properly dispose of unused bedding, hay, and feed.
-Wash your hands with soap and water and dry them well.
At Home:
-Clean and disinfect vehicles and trailer used to transport animals home from the fair.
-Keep returning livestock separate from other animals for up to four weeks.
-Feed and work with returning animals last.
-Wear different clothes and boots when working with returning animals.
-Wash your hands with soap and water and dry them well.
Enjoy the County Fairs!

Wishing everybody a Happy Independence Day!
All animals are sensitive to noise and can hear much more than you think. Here are a few things you can do to help your furry friends stay safe, calm, and happy.
-Keeping your pet in a smaller, confined space such as a crate or small bedroom with help with noise control.
-Turning on soft soothing music or the television to help mask the noise.
-Talking to your vet about possible medications and supplement therapies that can reduce your pet's anxiety.
We will be closed on Thursday, July 4th and Friday, July 5th. We will be open Saturday from 8-12 with front desk staff. We will be open Monday, July 8th with Normal business hours.
Stay safe and enjoy your Independence Day!

Happy Summer!
During these hot months it's important that animals stay hydrated all summer long. Water plays a vital role in regulating body temperature and maintaining good organ health in pets.
Thanks to cows thick skin, hair, and natural insulation cows prefer temperatures between 40-60 degrees!
In the summer, farmers keep cows cool by turning on barn fans and having water available to them at all times.
Did you know cows can drink 3 to 30 gallon of water every day?!
Enjoy your summer, and stay cool!

Fleas are tiny, reddish-brown insects that are external parasites and feed off of the blood of birds and mammals. They don’t have wings, but they have flat bodies and strong legs, which allow them to jump long distances. Fleas can jump as high as 8” vertically, which is 150 times their own height. Other facts about fleas include:
Fleas have been on this planet for approximately 100 million years.
There are over 2,000 species and subspecies of fleas.
In almost all species of fleas, the females are larger than the males.
Fleas are carriers of diseases like tapeworms, which can also affect people.
Effective management of fleas must treat both the pets and the indoor and outdoor areas nearby.
Fleas can live all winter long so if you do not have your preventatives stop in today!!

Hey Facebook Peeps, you will not believe what my girls were up to today at Oktoberfest in Pierz. First "Team Vet Chicks" ran in the Lions 5k Fun Run - some members of Team Vet Chicks thought the run was less fun than others. Then they came back to the clinic and made a video for the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Check it out!!! I will post more pictures of the parade, but first things first. Activity Coordinator Frasier checking out...for now.
