Miss Hazel ♥️
This rescue mare came in to become more manageable to handle. She will be learning to accept a halter and a human touch so that can she make a safe trip to her forever home in a few weeks. When she first came to see me she was always looking for a way out, a chance to escape whether that meant jumping fences or running you over. Her actions were extremely fear based and getting dangerous. She is coming along nicely, learning to think about things instead of overreacting and triggering flight mode. She is slowly learning that being around people can mean quiet, calm and safe. Stay tuned to see her progress!!

Let’s do some groundwork! #ColtStarting #lshorsemanship
Had a fun filled weekend here at Lisa Shields Horsemanship. Got to take some of the youngsters out on a nice trail ride and work cattle. It’s so beneficial for these horses to get EXPOSURE outside of the arena or the round pen. Yes, we can teach good lessons inside the arena but being able to apply and sharpen those things taught in the arena to the outside world is what makes us great horses! Exposure is the key! All of my training horses get hauled somewhere at least once a week, whether that be to a jackpot where they just get to stand tied at the trailer then walk around to see all the things or assisting me in some daywork. Once you establish that foundation you can start working on the exposure!
I have one spot available for training at this current time! I offer colt starting, help with problem horses, consignments, lessons and more. If you are interested in booking a spot, contact me today! I work closely with horse and owner to ensure everyone is on the same page when leaving my program!
I absolutely love working my younger horses off of another horse. The confidence it instills in both horses only helps each one get closer to where they need to be. “Latte” has already had a few rides on her but for video purposes I wanted to just have her lunge around me before I stepped on her today. When I can accomplish things like this from the ground or horseback (lunging both directions, switching directions, yeilding her hindquarters, etc) then I know I’ve prepared that horse for a solid first ride!
We’re filling up for the 2023 year fast! If you’d like to get a colt started, have a problem horse, need some tuning up, or would just like to come learn better horsemanship feel free to give me a call today! I work closely with horse and owner to ensure everyone is on the same page when leaving my program.
Our consignment program is also in FULL swing! If you are in the market for a horse, reach out and find out about the current consignments in my barn. If you are looking to sell, feel free to call and set up an appointment to talk about the options my consignment program offers 😊

A session with ‘Ari’.
This mare came in very high strung, Anxious and super nervous about anything that moved around her. In this session, I utilized my favorite tool, the soul eating flag 🤣 I will often touch the horse with the flag and then retreat, repeating this several times. The answer I am looking for is for the horse to stand relaxed no matter where I place the flag or how much noise the flag may make. If the horse shys away from the flag I’ll ask for some movement. In doing this exercise the horse will learn that standing relaxed is the best and easiest answer versus using energy to bolt or spook. This way they are taught to think about what is happening instead of react in a negative way. This was toward the end of our session, she was still a little nervous about some areas being touched but with consistency and time she will become a rockstar at this exercise. Stay tuned for more progress from this cute little mare.

“Molly” on her first day of the program is starting off on the right hoof! Molly has come in for some problem solving, she has developed the habit of bucking under saddle when being mounted or asked for the canter. We will work on redirecting her mind into a more positive and safer direction through teaching her how to relax and move foward with confidence. If you have a problem horse or are just looking to get one started please feel free to reach out to me for details on my program!
PSA for the Karen’s….this horse has been vet checked numerous times as well as had a professional saddle fitter come out. She is sound, just has developed some bad habits.
Little update on the spicy pony from earlier videos....this pony has really learned how to relax and be a willing partner by going back to the beginning and slowly changing those bad habits that had been developed into better habits. Contact me today if you need help with your four legged partner or if you need to get one started. Also offering consignments at this time.
‘Zues’ is coming along nicely. He is surely going to make a fine horse.
💥💥Heads up, he will be coming up for sale in near future💥💥💥
Problem ponies welcome! Allow me to help your equine partner and you work through some issues that may have arose. Accepting new clients, contact me for more information on my program or to book a spot today! #LSHorsemanship
