Your female dog is acting restless, carrying around stuffed animals or toys in her mouth, not eating as much as usual. Could it be? Could she be pregnant???

Possibly, but if there was no way your dog could have been bred, these could be signs of a (also called or "phantom" pregnancy). Believe it or not, we JUST saw a case of this last week!

Pseudopregnancy most often occurs 45-60 days after a bitch comes out of a heat cycle and is caused by a drop in the s*x hormone progesterone and a rise in the hormone prolactin. In addition to the signs above, dogs may exhibit nesting behaviors, abdominal distension, swollen mammary glands, and even lactation (milk production) from their ni***es.

Signs of false pregnancy will resolve without any intervention within 2-3 weeks of onset once hormonal levels normalize. The treatment? Having your dog spayed will prevent recurrent episodes of pseudopregnancy.

And yes, pseudopregnancy happens in humans too!

Dr. Lee first met Lola when she was just a 5-year-old. After defying all of our expectations, we said goodbye to her last week at the ripe old age of 17. We'll miss you always, sweet girl. 💔

Do you know what a is?

A "met check" is an x-ray study of the chest comprised of three views - one with your pet laying on its back, one with your pet laying on its left side, and one with your pet laying on its right side. Veterinarians often use this study when looking for signs of metastatic cancer (a cancer that spreads), but chest x-rays are a relatively inexpensive, quick, and non-invasive way to look for a variety of problems you may not know your pet has including pulmonary, cardiac, and skeletal abnormalities.

One thing we're pretty proud of as a clinic is how we run our puppy appointments. We try our best to keep the experience positive so that patients learn to not be afraid at our office. Sometimes, though, we do TOO good of a job...

14-week-old Blaze's mom literally had to drag him out the front door after his first appointment with us. What can we say? A little affection and Easy Cheese goes a LOONNNNGG way. 🧀

It's " !" Today's post features handsome patient Simba!

He was given to help keep him hydrated while he is kept off food and water for the day. When we give subcutaneous fluids, patients will often develop a visible hump under the skin until the fluids are absorbed. When giving large volumes of fluids, we often split the dose among multiple locations, hence why we gave Simba two humps. 🐫

Last week was rough. 💔

We said goodbye to this handsome guy on Friday. Mookie was another longtime patient of Dr. Lee's. Adopted from a local guide dog organization, he was originally a companion for his older doodle brother Ripley. Since then, he has been the older brother to his two siblings Bennie and Henry. Mookie was always an office favorite, obediently sitting on the exam table drooling and waiting for treats. He was the definition of a "good boy." We miss you and love you, Mr. Mook.
