Shearing Day is almost here! It sounds like shearing will start around 8:00 AM and should be finished by noon. It is confirmed that we will again have gourmet pizzas on hand - free samples. There will be plenty of work to be done. Apparently there will be 2 shearers which means more help will likely be needed. We will also have the farm shop open. Hope to see you Saturday!

Just a reminder that shearing day is less than 3 weeks away! We plan to get started around 8:00 AM on Saturday, October 19. Open to all who are interested. Coffee will be available to warm you up and g gourmet pizzas off the grill will be available starting mid morning. If you're interested in helping, plan to get your hands dirty!

Shearing Day this fall is set for Saturday October 19, 2024. As we have done the last several years, we plan to start early 8:00-8:30 AM and finish when the last one goes through. If you want to watch or help, you are welcome to come out. Well have deluxe pizza cooked on the grill for you to sample thanks to ShiraJoy. Put it on your calendar!

This year I've been participating in fleece shows more than I ever have in the past. Guess it's cheaper to send a fleece than take a trailer load of sheep cross country! With this in mind and having a support person on the other end to deliver the fleeces to the show, I sent 4 fleeces to represent the farm to The Black Sheep Gathering in Oregon. I've wanted to go to this festival in the past, but it's a long drive and just haven't had the opportunity yet, so this was a good compromise. I sent 2 natural colored fleeces (one Leicester and one Wensleydale) and 2 white fleeces (one Leicester and one Wensleydale). I have to admit I was rather surprised and yet highly pleased with the results! One of the fleeces sold afterwards, so I don't have the fleece fur a picture, but I wanted to share the results. The two colored fleeces showed against each other in the same class and the white fleeces showed against each other in the same class (though not the same class as the colored ones). I ended up with 1st and 2nd in each class! Wow!

I sheared 3 yearling ewes yesterday and was amazed to find the differences in fleece weight were rather substantial. All 3 yearling ewes had beautiful fleece and body wise seemed to be about the same size. One fleece weighed in at 4 lb 8 oz, one came in at 5 lb 9 oz, and the third was 6 lb 12 oz. Can you guess which was which?

Can't wait for Shepherds Harvest this year! We have a really nice selection of sheepskins this year, quite a bit of wash...

Can't wait for Shepherds Harvest this year! We have a really nice selection of sheepskins this year, quite a bit of washed fleece, rinsed fleece, and even raw fleece! Hope to see you in the barn Mother's Day Weekend at the Washington County Fairgrounds in Lake Elmo, MN.

I am so bummed to miss this year's Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival, but I'm proud of Benjamin as he will be graduating ...

I am so bummed to miss this year's Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival, but I'm proud of Benjamin as he will be graduating from LeTourneau University the same Saturday as the festival. My second best way to participate is to send a few fleeces to compete in the Fleece Show and Sale... So here are 3 that will be headed to Maryland soon.
