Friends it’s bug season and Soresto collar’s and other topicals are absolute trash and bad for your dogs.

I have been now using the wondercide flea and tick collars for a few months and I am incredibly happy with them. I’m excited for my next purchase to be able to order the topical’s!

I also have the yard spray for mosquitoes and it’s excellent.

If you use this link I think you get 10 bucks off!

Had such a fun lesson with Gunner (and his new friend Harlow from Boston for the Dogs) the other day but these really give me joy.

Seeing these puppies just enjoy life while Mom and Dad (Lauren and Kris) are happy with the lesson and what we are doing makes it all with it for me!!!❤️

We will hopefully be back in March and will update y’all with open dates and times for lessons!!

I love this series of photos from my Puppy lesson yesterday with Harlow and Gunner.
I have been working on building the foundation of attention and engagement over here obedience since day one and it all came together yesterday during a play and train session!
We let the puppies, puppy, while using outside motivators (food or toys) to reward when they checked in, or “recalled” with our asking!
Even while Harlow was FULL zoom she was ALWAYS checking in with me and if I called her to come to me, she spun on her heels to find me.
Proud of this little bumble 🐝.

Seamus training session
This time at home in the Hudson Valley motivates me to get outside and work my own dogs
Today I practiced Using three different type of reward: (including intermittent reward. Important to practice your dog working for you with nothing for the real world!
1. ME! (Praise and love)
2. The ball!
3. Treats
In this session I worked
1. Sit -going in and out of sit as well from the down us something I’m always trying to perfect
2. Down (with both of English and German commands) -making sure German commands he’s following through immediately since that’s what I use when he’s “working”
3. Bring it and Drop it-this has been years of work to get so clean! It’s finally getting there and really just using play as a time we work on retrieves. I have not added back in using things that are mine.
4. Circle (used for crowd control/making space). -this one I’m struggling phasing out the hand command and him doing it on just the verbal.
5. Recall! NEVER STOP WORKING IT! 🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕

*** ATTENTION: LOCAL FUNDRAISER!!!***

100% OF PROFITS FROM 8/9-8/23 WILL DONATED

On the evening of August 6th, a terrible fire destroyed multiple units in the Coachlight Square complex in Montrose, NY. The fire started in one unit and quickly spread and destroyed five additional units. This devastating fire has now left 6 families homeless and virtually all personal items were destroyed in the fire as well. These families have nothing right now, other than what has been donated so far from their neighbors. The picture below is the inside of one of the units after the fire. There is nothing left….

Starting today (8/9) for the next two weeks, 100% of profits from all retail sales from Yearning Wild Treats & Chews will be donated to the families effected by the fire. This includes online sales, and also includes all sales from our booth at the Let It Shine Inc. market on the river in Verplanck, NY this Sunday 8/15! In the event we run out of inventory, we will still take orders and fill them as quickly as possible and still donate 100% of profits from orders placed between 8/9-8/23, regardless of when they are fulfilled.

IF YOU ARE LOCAL, DON’T ORDER OFF OUR WEBSITE! Instead, you can email us at [email protected] or send us a message on Facebook or Instagram and tell us what you would like to purchase. You can pick up your order in person at the market on the river in Verplanck on Sunday 8/15. The website will automatically charge shipping costs.

Don’t have a dog to buy goodies for? You can always buy goodies from us as gifts for your friends dogs. Or, you can simply make a donation and we will add it to the funds to be donated. There is an option on our website titled “Coachlight Square Fire Relief” where you can add an additional donation on to your order, or just simply donate. Another great way to help the cause is to stop by Fulgum’s Bar & Grill in Montrose, NY and drop off clothing, personal items, toiletries, household basics, etc. to help these families get back on their feet. There is also a GoFundMe page set up that is accepting donations, you can donate here https://gofund.me/9072e8ae

There will also be a fundraising event at Fulgum’s Bar & Grill in Montrose, NY Sunday 8/15 at 3pm where 100% of proceeds and donations will go directly to the families effected by the fire. They are suggesting a $50 donation but any amount helps and will be accepted. Donation includes burgers, hot dogs, salads, draft beer, sodas, etc. They will be raffling off gift cards to local businesses as well!

Good morning and happy Sunday from Indigo and Nova!
A friendly reminder when getting a new dog it’s very important to give them an opportunity to download and decompress. Especially after any experience being in the shelter, being moved around, Rehoming, travel Chaotic household etc.
I picked up these two a few days ago and I’ve given them a ton of opportunity to rest and their crates as well as explore, use their noses, work on enrichment and also just play and run.
It usually takes out a minimum two weeks for dogs to fully decompress. Sometimes I can even take up to two months! In this time we don’t fully know what the dog is capable of and who they are.
So it’s super important for us to provide them that opportunity to find their way with proper enrichment, structure, exercise, play and most importantly rest.
I look forward to continuing to work with the dogs if the Hudson Valley, being home and working with my hometown dogs brings me joy.

Also can we all cry a little bit about their PURE joy of some freedom and the start of their new life and training?!?!

Please for the love of dog stop letting your dog “say hi”. Just. Stop. Please.
07/30/2021

Please for the love of dog stop letting your dog “say hi”.

Just. Stop. Please.

Let’s set the scene. This may become a bit sensitive for some, and I apologise in advance.

You’re out somewhere. You might be at a restaurant, a bar, a public park on a sunny day enjoying the sunshine with your family. It may be that you’re on your way home from work or trying to catch the bus. You’re just minding your own business.

Suddenly, a person comes straight up to you. They give you anxiety. What is this person going to do? I don’t know! The person is walking with a friend and the friend sees you’re a bit anxious and calls out to you saying “Don’t stress, she/he’s all good!’’ But they keep approaching you. And when they finally reach you they randomly hug you. Touch you. Walk circles around you. Start talking to you. Don’t let you leave.

What would you call that? Harassment? Assault in severe cases?
How would this make you feel?

Now, after the initial shock you find your courage and you ask the person to go away. Leave you alone. But the person doesn’t stop and instead touches your arm or your hair. “Oh come on, we’re alright. I’m not doing anything bad I’m friendly! Just let me be around you.’’You get upset and might push the person. Shout at them. If you’re a bit more of an assertive person you might punch them. Who knows.
Then the person and the friend get upset. Well? WHY are you here then? What are you doing in this public space if you don’t like being around other people? You have no business to be here, minding your own business in this park with your family without allowing me to sit with you, play with you, touch you, talk to you. Actually, you know what you should do? You should be more social! You should go more often to random groups of people.

_______
Do you see what I did there?
If you thought any of the above situation is not okay (and I sure as heck hope you do), then why do we think it’s okay to let dogs run up to strange dogs and say ‘It’s okay he’s friendly’?

What we do in the dog world is the exact opposite what we should be doing. We label the harassed dog as aggressive and the harassing dog as the victim.

Dogs have emotions. They have feelings. They have their own characters and personalities. There are many, many dogs that are not interested in making new friends or being with dogs they don’t know they can trust.

And sure, some dogs love playing with other dogs. Those are the extraverted dogs. Just like we have people that LOVE hugging or love making new friends even as adults, but to be honest.. how many of those people do you know? I think if you put it into a % its lower than the people that rather just are with their select group of people and be left alone by random strangers in public spaces.

So don’t assume the dog your dog is running towards on the beach, is willing to play with your dog. Being in a public space means you need to have your dog under effective control. And if you can’t call your dog back, it should be on a long line until you can.
