The Husky Project hit a snag last night when I stupidly let all four dogs out in the fenced yard and went in for about 10 minutes to do some errands. There were 3 dogs waiting at the door when I went to let them in but no husky. I ran all around the yard looking for her. Then I let Stella and Chaos out front and we went all around calling and looking. Then we got in the Jeep and drove all around the neighborhood looking and flagging down each car we saw to let them know. Back to the house to make LOST Husky fliers and then dragged Stuart along to help. We stopped at each neighbor’s house to drop off a flier and finally turned around at the end of our road and started back in the rain.
We came around a corner and there was a husky trotting along the other side of the road coming toward us. I stopped and called her and she came towards me but not close enough that I could step on the four foot leash she was trailing. I let Chaos out of the car and he trotted over to her and then I called him and she came also and I was able to step on the leash and catch her and load her into the Jeep. Back to the 20 foot long line and watching her in the fenced yard!
Today, I took Katya and Stella for a walk in the park and Katya actually jumped into the Jeep on her own following Stella. I Was getting pretty tired of having to lift her up and stuff her in.
When we got home, she actually went into the crate on her own and stayed in it with the door open. She has also decided she likes her head scratched. She is actually doing very considering that she had probably never been in a house until a week ago.
Katya and her two sisters are looking for forever homes through Happy Endings Animal Rescue in Pinedale. Call (307)360-6000 for more info.
