Say hi to our adorable patient, Nala! 🐾🥰

Heterochromia is caused by a lack of the pigment melanin in all or part of one eye. In dogs with heterochromia, the lack of melanin causes one of their eyes to appear blue or bluish-white. Heterochromia in dogs is often hereditary, meaning it is passed through their genetic makeup.

Another Stand For Animals Staff Spotlight: say hello to Crystal Moore!

Crystal Moore is a long time SFA Assistant who has bottle fed at least 50 litters of kittens over the last 15 years of working in spay neuter. She says “It’s extremely rewarding to find them homes and get updates.”
One time she ended up adopting a stray because it was identical to the cat she already had and when she saw it sitting in her car after leaving her door open she thought it was her cat. When she brought it inside and went to put it on the couch, her actual cat was already sitting there. 🤣
Crystal really loves the fast pace of working at SFA.

Do you have a little bit of extra room in your home and extra love in your heart this spring?

Meet Neko! Neko is 6 years old, 85 lbs.

From Neko’s Foster Mom:

If you look up the definition of magnificent it says: impressively beautiful, striking and offers the synonyms: splendid, spectacular, impressive, glorious and superb. Such a wonderful description of Neko that I would end there, but he really is so much more. This incredible boy just wants to be loved and have a forever home that showers him with hugs, kisses and belly rubs. Neko is a six-year-old, 85 lb. lab/shepherd mix. He is housebroken, neutered, HW negative and up to date on his shots. He gets along beautifully with my other dogs. Neko has Addison’s Disease, which requires a monthly shot, but does not cause any health issues. Neko likes to nap but also walks well on a leash and will pick up the ball to remind you he needs five minutes of your time to play catch – where he could place in the Olympics, he is so talented at this “sport.” If you are looking for the perfect dog, Neko is it. We say every day how he just blends right into our family seamlessly and is no trouble at all! Such a good boy!

*Neko was diagnosed with Addison's Disease two years ago. This requires a monthly shot that will cost between $150-200 and Stand For Animals has kindly offered a discounted rate to have the shot given at their clinic. This diagnosis in NO WAY affects his health or ability in any way. https://www.petfinder.com/dog/neko-54349471/sc/lake-wylie/jesses-place-rescue-inc-sc417/

Neko is an adoptable Dog - Black Labrador Retriever & Shepherd Mix searching for a forever family near Lake Wylie, SC. Use Petfinder to find adoptable pets in your area.

Just wanted to share!❤️
Kimberly Novak:
Hello I would like to share our story with Lacy. This is concerning stand for Animals in Mooresville. We have taken our dogs there for awhile well I January 2022 a dog named Precious was due to be euthanized in a few days she was a medical adoption from the Rowan country shelter. We decided to adopt her if we could afford all the medical cost of her numerous issues well we took all the information we had on her to Stand for Animals in Mooresville they were willing to help immediately they went above and beyond of any vet office. We adopted Lacy that day because we felt we had some really great people on our team. They began treatment immediately have always worked with and have always treated us and Lacy like royalty. Lacy lives because of those awesome Angels at stand for Animals. I just wanted to share this so thank you.

Today’s Stand For Animals Staff Spotlight is Staff spotlight this week
Chris Fuentes! Chris has been in the veterinary field for over 16 years. "She says "The most important thing about working at Stand for Animals is saving lives and knowing all the unwanted litters we have prevented. Being part of the full life cycle of pets, seeing them as babies and then helping them cross the rainbow bridge has been meaningful." She once had a cat named Cali that missed jumping into the window above the toilet and fell in! She ran around the house shaking her paws to get the water off. Thanks Chris!

Stand For Animals staff spotlight! A vet assistant with SFA for two years, please meet Stephanie Bishop!

Stephanie loves working at Stand For Animals because of the like-minded staff that are passionate about providing low cost vet care for those who need it. She has learned important skills that are needed to be a vet assistant and her compassion and understanding have also grown.
Almost every day brings touching moments. Stephanie particularly likes giving donated meds or discounted services to a client that otherwise
wouldn't be able to afford it. Thank you Stephanie!

A very special ! Dr. Elizabeth Welch earned her bachelor’s degree and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree (DVM) at Auburn University in 2007. During veterinary school, Elizabeth took a keen interest in emergency and critical care medicine, surgery, and shelter medicine.
Fun facts:
Elizabeth was a diver on the Auburn Women’s swimming and diving team and earned a spot on Auburn’s first Women’s NCAA National Championship swimming and diving team. After graduation, she moved to the Charlotte area and began practicing general veterinary medicine and surgery. She was instrumental in developing and managing a local animal shelter.

Elizabeth and her husband, J, are the proud parents of Aidan, Connor, and Anna Cait (humans) and four-legged family members Eleanor, Riggs (dogs) and a cat named Mango – all rescues.

Best thing about having a pet: "Their loyalty. They are always there – no matter what – to comfort you and unconditionally love you."
The most admirable thing about my pet: "They always want to be around us. They are all rescues, and we do not know their past, but they don’t care. They just want to be a part of the family."
A good day at the office is when: "I have improved the life of an owner by helping their pet. I also enjoy teaching my staff new procedures and helping them gain confidence in their positions."
Favorite part of being a vet: "The stories! Everyone has a unique sorry about their most beloved companion."

Welcome to another ! Dr. Reynolds Gray was born and raised on a horse farm in North Carolina. She went to college and veterinary school at North Carolina State University. After graduating from the College of Veterinary Medicine, she pursued a medical/surgical internship at Mississippi State University. She then began practicing as a mixed animal veterinarian in rural North Carolina, but soon found her niche providing affordable care to patients and clients through Stand for Animals Veterinary Clinic.
Fun facts:
In her spare time, Dr. Gray enjoys riding her horse Vinnie on trails or spending time with her puppy Magpie. She also loves to go fishing and spend time with her family.

Current pets: "Magpie (the poodle), Stella and Evangeline (the cats), Vinnie (the horse) and Shirley (the mini donkey)."
Most admirable quality about your pet: "Magpie's loyalty."
Spaying/neutering is important: "It helps decrease the number of unwanted animals in shelters and prevent overpopulation of animals that have no one to care for them."
My favorite part of being a vet: "Having the opportunity to listen to what my patients are "saying" (without words) and heal them."

Yet another ! Dr. Heather Linen earned her doctoral degree from Cornell University and has over 15 years' experience in both private and nonprofit practices in Florida, Virginia and Mooresville, North Carolina. Her areas of specialty include preventative medicine, dentistry and endocrinology.
Fun facts:
Linen enjoys playing piano, reading, spending time with her husband outdoors and – in the pre-COVID days – cheering on her son's Little League team

First pet: "I was born into a house of three cats – Taffy, Monkey and Notail. They were truly my sisters."
Current pet: "One sweet, goofy rescue dog named Kodi."
I knew I wanted to be a vet when: "I think I always knew I would be a veterinarian. I was an animal advocate from a very young age – a voice for the voiceless."
Largest animal ever treated: A 10,000-pound *type of animal*.

Stand For Animals’ Story

Stand For Animals Veterinary Clinic operates three non-profit clinics in Charlotte, Pineville and Lake Norman to ensure all pet owners have access to spay neuter services and veterinary care for their pets. Our clinics are staffed by licensed, trained veterinarians and veterinary technicians and assistants.

As a non-profit our mission is to make high quality spay neuter and veterinary care affordable and accessible to all pet owners. We know that by providing spay neuter we are reducing the number of unwanted litters in our community and reducing the number of dogs and cats that end up being euthanized at local shelters. We believe that every pet needs and deserves high quality veterinary care to keep them healthy and happy for their entire lives.
