Such a good article on the correlation between young riders caring for horses and how it transfers into their everyday life!
Resilience is a mindset so baked into the horse person identity that we rarely take a moment to even consider it, but it is something we all share with each other🐴💪
A recent study has found that horse riding and care develops resilience, responsibility, and leadership, which are highly transferrable to the non-horse world...

photo dump! I’m still on cloud 9 with how both the camp and Polaris exceeded my expectations by miles! The biggest thanks to Silva Martin, Boyd Martin, AnnA Buffini Dressage for your time, patience and knowledge over those 4 days, and to Melissa Kutzer for being my groom, photographer/videographer, mental health coach 🤪 and cheerleader from (very) early mornings to (very) late nights, I couldn’t have done it without you! A big thanks to my husband, staff and clients for holding down the fort and cheering me on- you all rock!!! I can’t wait to get back in the saddle after Polaris gets some well deserved time off and start working on what we’ve learned!
We’re home! The past four days have been nonstop for Polaris with two lessons a day, yesterday being both cross country and a jumping lesson. Polaris was understandably tired and a little sore from yesterday and did the jumping portion of the mock trial, but she was telling me she was done after that. We packed up and came home so she could soak her legs in an ice bath and is now going to have a while off to rest and be a horse. I am so unbelievably proud and impressed with her heart, brain and talent, and thanks to Boyd Martin , boydmartineventing , and everyone involved, Polaris has the potential for a very exciting future!
A HUGE thank you to silvamartindressage Silva Martin for making Maddy’s dream come true and bringing her out into Bruno’s field to meet him!
Polaris knocked it out of the park again today at Windurra Camp! Cross country was the highest she’s ever jumped and the fences were intimidating to me, but this horse continues to show me how insanely athletic and smart she is, and how much she loves this. We had a jumping lesson in the afternoon, and again Polaris was incredible and got huge compliments from boydmartineventing Boyd Martin!
The last two days have been a dream come true at ! Yesterday started with gurubee and a dressage demo with Silva Martin and anna_buffini followed by a dressage lesson with Silva. After lunch we did a jump lesson with boydmartineventing and got to listen to Boyd’s barn manager Steph and have a Q&A. This morning we started with stretching exercises and workouts for riders with Boyd’s physical therapist, followed by a jump demo done by Boyd and Peter Wylde on Connor and Bruno. I then had a lesson with Anna where something clicked for Polaris and I and she ended the lesson a different horse! After lunch we went out on the cross country course and Polaris was a total rockstar! She was so good Boyd moved us up a level in cross country starting tomorrow!
We made it! Polaris has handled all of this like she does this every day, and this is the first time she’s done anything like this! We schooled the property and are ready for the start of lessons tomorrow!
“All horses deserve at least once in their lives, to be loved by a little girl.”
Less than a week away until we leave to go to the 4 day Windurra USA Training Camp! I am so excited to work with some of the best in the industry! Polaris and I have been working hard and tonight we went up to the horse park to work on stamina and conditioning. I’m so incredibly proud with how confident she has become in a short time, and can’t wait to learn how to help her progress in her training!

I am so excited to have the opportunity to participate in the inaugural Windurra USA Training Camp! I will have the privilege of lessoning daily with both soon-to-be 4 time olympian Boyd Martin and international dressage rider Silva Martin at Windurra USA, as well as attending educational sessions with some of the top experts in horse care, nutrition, tack, fitness and more, including a barn tour with Phillip Dutton and sit-down discussion. I cannot wait to learn everything I possibly can and bring it back to share with Red Rox!
This past week was a hot one!!! Riders learned about parts of the saddle and bridle and tack care, long lining, and we did early morning ba****ck rides and strength exercises at the walk. Horses and dogs enjoyed Magnawave, baths and fans!
Great information going into our first heatwave!
"Cool" hot weather tips! ☀️
The notion that a hot, recently exercised horse needs to walk until they are completely cooled off is a myth. A 2020 study found that out of the five methods tested, the quickest way to return to normal body temperature was stationary with continuous tap water application. This doesn't mean that you should abruptly stop exercise—finish your ride or training session with a slow walk to allow your horse's heart rate and breathing to gradually return to normal, but after that your sweaty, hardworking horse should be offered a cool shower and drinking water (small but frequent amounts) without delay.
Overall, enjoy your summer rides but be aware of signs of heat stress in your horse. When heat and humidity soar, even moderate exercise can push your equine friend's body temperature beyond safe limits! Be sure to contact your veterinarian for more information about heat stroke and for recommendations tailored to your horse's individual situation.

Taking advantage of the amazing weather with a trip to the horse park!
We had a great day at Taylor Made! 7 horses, 9 riders, and everyone got multiple ribbons and rode so well! Congratulations to Claire for her champion in lead line on Snickers, Kendall for champion in mini stirrup, Andrea on Bear and Melissa on Piper for tying for champion on the walk/trot division, and MAK for champion in long stirrup!
TGIF!!! This is what I came around the corner to this morning… I can only imagine what I interrupted!
Happy Mother’s Day to all of the human and animal moms out there!
Congratulations to everyone who showed at Heaven’s Gate today! Dayzee had her show debut and finished with reserve champion, Maddy on Pickles had great ribbons and great riding, Kenzie on Pickles stepped up to the Mini Stirrup and finished with champion. Outside Emily and Bear moved up a division and had fantastic rounds over fences despite the weather, and Kendall did her first show of the year and first show on Pickles and won reserve champion. Piper, Bear and Polaris all competed together with Andrea and Bear getting champion, and Polaris and Piper tying for reserve. Above all, great riding, teamwork and horsemanship was shown by all of the Red Rox riders and supporters making everything efficient and fun!

Do you want to know what’s the easiest way to know spring is here? Brush Snickers and Emma! Both had baths (Snickers was showing off what a unicorn he is!) and lots of brushing to help them shed out their thick winter coats. Because Snickers still does lessons and the weather has warmed up so he got a fresh new look for spring!!!
Bear made sure he had his glasses ready to see the eclipse today!
We had a great show at Heaven’s Gate Farm today to get the horses in the ring for the first time this year! Congratulations to Emily on Pickles in Starting Horse, Maddy on Pickles in the Academy division, Emily on Bear in Adult Rider, and Melissa on Piper in Pleasure Mount. It was also a great day for Frosty who schooled the 2’6” in the outdoor and Polaris in Pleasure Mount.
Thank you to Amy at Ride EquiSafe for spending the afternoon fitting some of the kids and adults with air vests at Red Rox and sharing your knowledge on safety riding equipment!
Enjoying the sunset after all of the rain and wind this week!

Roxy update! Shes doing great and back out with her friends (weather and helicopter mom permitting 🤣)! Seeing her act like her sassy red-headed self makes me so happy!
What do you do when you get to the horse park to get videos of a horse and realize you forgot to put your stirrups back on your saddle 🤦🏼♀️? You get on and ride! Striker couldn’t have been more of a trail unicorn if he tried! Go to www.redroxfarm.com for more information and videos of him.
It was a beautiful morning at the horse park- Tango and Hailey had to show us that 23 is just a number!
Piper’s first day jumping and her first canter fences, it’s been such a pleasure to work with this talented mare and her owners for the past two years and see her grow! I can’t wait to see what 2023 brings for her!
Polaris only two months under saddle and first time with a new rider. This mare has an impressive work ethic and brain!
