I understand riding is hard...
I understand that as riders we all get frustrated ,and angry at ourselves and even our horses.
I can remember alot of hard rides and shows over the years, many of them in a hospital bed thinking do I really want to keep doing this.
After many of my lessons parents and riders come to me , I am frustrated , I am not making the progess I think I should be better than I am by now, I want to quit. So many many times I go back to the fears and frustration I have felt, and wish so much I could feel them again, as I have to ridden ( really ridden in alot or years) .
Riding is an art , It is a dance between horse and rider, It is a connection and understanding between the two partners that we will do our best today and try hard not to hurt or punish each other.
This takes feel and before you have feel you have to learn ballance, stearing, posting, sitting the canter, sitting the trot!!! This takes years to learn (For some it comes easy ) for others it is a struggle.
But please riders , remember that all of this takes TIME AND DEDICATION! And if you think for one minute being on a horse for 1 hour a week will give you the skills you need ,Think again.
This will teach you basics in riding ( If you have a great teacher) .
Who will yell (yes, yell to you across the ring sit up heals down 1000 times a lesson) And teach you your basics and fundamentles correctly . You will learn how to ride and contol your horse .
Practice the sitting trot for hours if you can, this will develop your seat and you become an independent rider.
Give yourself grace and time ! You will be the rider you want to be !!! If you are willing to put in the time and patience ! It is an art like playing the piano or dancing , Only you have a partner who may not always hear or understand what you are asking for.. Grace .... Give your horses grace . Give yourselves GRACE !
