Did you know two-headed snakes are rare, but not uncommon? a two-headed Russell's Viper was found and rescued in Maharashtra.

The reptile will probably spend the rest of its days in captivity, given the survival rate of two-headed snakes in the wild is low.

These hummingbirds may be small, but they sure can travel! Their migration trip is about 4,000 miles long from Alaska to Mexico.

Measured in body lengths, the 3-inch rufous hummingbird has one of the longest avian migrations, from Alaska to Mexico. It is an aggressive species, but no wonder, it needs to eat to fuel up.

It's very important to follow Shelter in Home and to maintain proper social distancing when you go out for supplies!! Here's an exotic animal to inspire your stay at home.

STAY AT HOME
AND BE LIKE THE OLM

An olm salamander(Proteus anguinus) was recently observed staying in the same spot in its underwater cave for seven years!

Seriously, during these uncertain times, staying at home will save lives and reduce the spread of Covid-19. If your job does not require you to go out, be a good citizen and do your part, stay at home regardless of your age. If the Olm can manage seven years, we can all handle a few weeks.

This has been a public service announcement from your friends at Peppermint Narwhal Creative. Stay safe everyone!

It's important to keep your pets active during Shelter in Home! Experts say trying to keep your routine and normal as possible during these times is helpful, and this includes your pet's routine as well. As long as you are keeping the 6ft separation required under social distancing, you are still able to go for walks.

Be safe and take care of yourself and your pets through these times!

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are making some temporary rules to help with social distancing and hopefully do our part to decrease infectious disease risk factors

• Please only one client/group in the lobby at a time. We are asking for people to wait outside or in the car until the lobby is cleared and disinfected. We can begin the check-in process over the phone

• We will not be using the exam rooms, as there is no way to ensure 6 foot distance between people in these small spaces. All appointments will be completed in our back treatment area while the owner waits in the lobby.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience and lack of hospitality, but we hope you understand that we are doing this to help protect you, our staff and the community.

With all that is happening with the Coronavirus, we thought it would be a good idea to address what this virus means for pets and animals. Important details found under the FAQs page of the CDC is that there are no reported cases of pets or other animals being sick with COVID-19, and no any evidence of pets being able to spread COVID-19. That being said, the CDC still recommends limiting contact with animals if you are sick with COVID-19, as well as take necessary hygienic steps such as washing your hands after interacting with animals. There are still unknowns about COVID-19 so it is important to be cautious in the mean time.

We want to encourage everyone to stay educated and up to date with everything going on to increase safety and reduce panic. The CDC is a great resource for more information about the virus.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a virus (more specifically, a coronavirus) identified as the cause of an outbreak of respiratory illness first detected in Wuhan, China.

Kitten Season has started on the Central Coast, meaning that orphaned and abandoned neonatal kittens will soon be pouring into Animal Services. Neonatal kittens need to be fed around-the-clock; because of their high care requirements, they are deemed as unadoptable and receive no protection under no-kill shelter laws. The majority of public shelters lack the resources needed to care for cats under 8 weeks of age and are therefore forced to humanely euthanize them.

CPCP is currently putting together a Neonatal Fostering Program in hopes of alleviating the pressure Kitten Season puts on our local public shelters. We are looking for people interested in fostering neonates through our organization and will provide education, necessary supplies, and veterinary care. If you’re willing to lend a hand with fostering, please contact our Shelter Manager, Ali, at [email protected].
