Today, we remember the over one million men and women who gave all. For Pitman we remember the 41 men who gave all, starting in WWI.

I want to thank our Mayor, town council, The VFW, Our Legion Color Guard, The Pitman Jr Fireman, the Friends and Families of our fallen and the community for coming out in the rain to pay our respects.

Respectfully,

Lastnight, The Pitman American Legion Post 49, along with Mayor Michael Razze and Borough Council awarded Jim Jewell the American Legion Valor Medal and Certificate for actions taken on July 19th, 2023.

While driving on West Avenue in the Borough of Pitman, James Jewell observed smoke coming from the Collinsworth residence on the corner of West & Edsam Ave. As you exited your vehicle you called for the resident, Mr. David Collinsworth Sr. and proceeded to the rear of the residence. Upon being met by Mr Collinsworth you assessed the situation and called for the properties water hose. After receiving said hose you began to fight the fire at the rear door of the residence and remained at this post until Fire Department assets arrived and took control of the scene. Your quick and decisive response saved the residence along with its family memories. For this action, I hereby award you The American Legion Valor Medal. Given this day, 11September2023.

Update on Dog of the Year.

1. We continue to receive "votes" on Venmo and I want to thank everyone that is supporting our American Legion here in Pitman. When you support us, you support Pitman and the Veteran programs we help support. THANK YOU from all of our members.

2. We also have a winner for the 2023 Scholarship Program. Braydon Yordy is this year's recipient of our $1250 scholarship and is well deserved!!!! A great student / athlete and a fine example of a student from Pitman who we like to support. Congratulations Braydon!

3. I would also like to inform everyone that we continue the tradition of supporting a Miss Pitman Contestant. This year we are sponsoring Grace Eller for this year's contest. Look for her during the contest and our great trip around Pitman during the 4th of July parade. Good luck to Grace and all of the contestants (but especially Grace!).

4. Our last 4th Friday is this Friday and we will station ourselves near Alaura's Kitchen downtown. Come support your favorite Pitman Pooch!. We will announce the winner on July 1st. Good luck to all.

First, we want to thank everyone for your Dog of the Year support. Off to a great start at the Craft Fair and we had a great turn out by Crave and the Gentle Giant Cafe on 4th Friday. Thank you to both of those businesses for putting up with our crowds! We will continue through June and make our announcement of a winner on July 1st.

Second, the proceeds of our fund raiser go to many great causes. We are sponsoring a very lovely and talented young lady from Pitman High School for Miss Pitman. We will be rooting for Grace Ellie to do well in this year's contest! We also will announce our American Legion scholarship winner next week. Stay tuned. We also are sending 3 young men to represent Pitman High School at Boy's State. They participate at Ryder College for a week over the summer. Your support makes these and many other projects possible.

And finally, we have Pitman's Memorial Day service tomorrow and we hope to see a big crowd up town to honor those have died while defending our freedoms. The event starts at the Tabernacle at 10:45 and will continue down town at the Ed Campbell Memorial Park. Hope to see you there.

05/26/2023

We will be up town this evening for 4th Friday! Come out and vote! You will feel bad us near Crave between 6-8.
