Tonight I checked a major item off my bucket list: read some of my writing in public. ✅ I attended my first open mic night and plot twist…I was first up.

* My friend won a poetry contest (amazing, right?) and was showcasing her work there. She invited me to come and encouraged me to read something
* I was randomly selected to go first and it added so much to the experience for me
* My other friend came to support all of the awesomeness and captured these moments
* It felt amazing sharing a piece of me to a room full of strangers
* The essay/poem I decided to share was one I wrote a few months back about the vast differences between falling in love and staying in love

I share this in hopes it inspires you to check that thing off your bucket list. Do something that scares you. Say yes when your friend asks you to do something new - and don’t forget to tell your other friends who want to support you. And hopefully you can share about it, because we all occasionally need the reminder to not forget to get out there and live.

We’re all going to die.

Trick or Treat!!! Halloween is a time for goodies. Caramel apples, pumpkin donuts, chocolates, and candy corn make for a delicious holiday. It is well known that chocolate can be toxic for our furry friends, but sugary candy can also pose risks for toxicity. Too much sugar can cause stomach upset, excessive thirst, and in severe cases electrolyte changes. There’s enough to stress about, don’t let your dog needing to walk perfectly on your heel be one of them!

It’s ok if your dog is walking in front, on the side, or even behind you! My criteria with my dogs is it’s essentially all good as long and you’re not pulling hard. I let my dogs sniff and basically walk wherever they feel comfortable as long as it’s a pleasant feel on the leash.

Enrichment can do more than just give your dog an outlet, it can help decrease unwanted behaviors! Franklin has a habit of charging and barking at the door when guests arrive. He is capable of settling on an area away from the door until released to say hello, but sometimes it’s nice to have another option for both him and his human family. This is a great example of using positive redirection to help dogs cope in excitable situations. Unlocking the joy that comes with your dog walking well on leash is not determined by whether or not they are wearing a harness (or anything else for that matter).
