A Plea for Hector: Time is Running Out

I usually focus on sharing the dogs I’ve photographed and personally met, but sometimes a story tugs at my heart so strongly that I can’t stay silent. Hector has just two days to live—unless someone steps up to foster, pledges enough support, adopts him, or a rescue intervenes.

Hector is in a very rural shelter with limited resources, which means his chances are slim without immediate action. He needs a miracle to survive. Will you be the reason he gets one more chance at life? Every positive action—no matter how small—makes a difference.

URGENT: Hector is scheduled for euthanasia this Thursday.

This boy is incredible:

He’s dog-friendly and loves people.
He listens to commands and walks well on a leash.
He’s a giant lover who will give so much back to anyone who saves him.
He appears to be neutered and ready to start a new chapter in life.
Hector’s fate depends on us. Please consider fostering, adopting, or rescuing him. If you can’t take him in, pledge or share to help us give him a fighting chance.

He’s currently at Chesterfield SC Animal Services, but time is running out.

If you can help, please message me immediately! Together, we can save Hector. 💔🐾

***REMEMBER: I AM JUST A PERSON THAT LOVES DOGS AND USES HER BUSINESS TO HELP AS MANY AS I CAN, MY VOLUNTEER WORKS DOES NOT MAKE ME RESPONSIBLE FOR RESCUES OR SHELTER'S ACTIONS AS I AM JUST A PERSON THAT TRIES TO HELP DOGS. ALSO MY WILLINGNESS TO HELP DOES NOT GIVE ANYONE THE RIGHT TO ATTACK ME OR BE RUDE, PERIOD.

I will gladly accept donations at the training facility, 71 Holly Ridge Rd, Pittsboro, and drop them off at Pittsboro Police Department. I will offer you a free class if you bring any donation to the training center.

Our hearts break as we see the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene in Boone and it’s surrounding areas.

Staff from the Pittsboro Police Department and The Town of Pittsboro, NC have been coordinating on how we can best help in the relief effort for that area. The local mountain organizations are asking for the donation of various relief items.

We will be partnering with local businesses, organizations and agencies in town to gather these items and get them to those in need.

Starting tomorrow, we will also be accepting donations. Our truck and trailer will be parked in front of our Police Department as a drop off site, 635 East Street. Anybody wishing to help out can bring by any of the listed items Monday-Friday, 8-5pm. If you can’t make it during those hours or only are free on the weekend, message our Facebook or email [email protected] and we can arrange someone to take your donations after hours! We will be accepting donations for the next 1-2 weeks.

Jamie’s Vision, Inc. will also be assisting in taking donated items for us to bring. Stay tuned for where and when they will be taking donations.

Chatham Cares Disaster Relief and Chatham County Sheriff's Office-NC also are bringing supplies to those in need. If you’re unable to make our drop off, check out their different donation locations around the county!

Pictured is a list you can use as a guide for the acceptable.

DISTRACTED DOG WALKERS

The distracted dog walker is commonly seen chatting on their cell phone, wearing headphones or socializing with other people while oblivious to what their dog is doing, how their dog is feeling or what is going on in the environment.

This may not sound like a problem to some, but it is something that many people have a problem with, even more so if you have a reactive dog.

I compare walking a dog to driving a car. It’s not so much about our driving skills, but having to constantly be aware of the driving skills of others – trying to predict what they will do, which rules of the road they will ignore and how distracted they are. This is especially true in the country I live in, where driving can be a stressful experience.

I understand that we often need to multi task – there simply doesn’t seem to be enough time in our day to accomplish everything we need to, but walking our dogs should not be one of these times.

Some people might say – “but my dog is really friendly, well socialized, gets on well with everyone, is well trained, knows this environment well etc. and I hear that.

But another dog might not be – maybe they need space, are reactive, are not sociable, are recovering from an illness, might be terrified of another dog racing straight towards them chasing a ball thrown from a ball launcher etc.

If distracted dog walkers have no regard for other dogs or other people, they should at least have regard for their own dogs. Walking your dog should be a time of bonding, of relationship, of seeing the environment through the eyes of your dog, of reinforcing and teaching wanted behaviours, of keeping them safe and protected from the unknown.

Our dogs need us to be focused, to pay attention, to be aware and attentive.

Our dogs depend on us to advocate for them.
