ANNOUNCEMENT: Please be advised there has been a report of dogs getting terminally ill and dying after visiting Jordan Lake near the Farrington Boat launch yesterday. We have been in contact with the NC Department of Environmental Quality and NC Department of Health and Human Services, who are investigating potential causes.

We try hard to keep our FB page fun, but sometimes there are important topics that need to be discussed. This emergency clinic in Maine saw a puppy that needed surgery. The owner could not afford the surgery so she was given the option to euthanize or surrender the puppy to a rescue that would cover the cost and the puppy adopted once healed. She chose the latter and then went to the local news villifying the emergency clinic. This clinic and staff have now received so many death threats they have police guards. In today's climate those threats must be taken seriously. We have done the same thing many times over the years when we see an animal that can be saved and the owner cannot afford treatment. If we know of a home that can afford the treatment we ask the owner to surrender the pet so that the pet can get the care it needs and live a happy life. We joined this profession to care for animals as our priority. Instead of that emergency clinic being lauded for their efforts to save the puppy and finding it a home they have been put in Hell. It is events like this that will make people leave the veterinary profession. We already have the highest su***de rate of any profession. While we are acutely aware that the cost of veterinary care is high, we are at the same time, one of the greatest underpaid professions. We do this for the love of animals as the stress, pay and hours aren't all that desirable 🥴 I'm putting this on our FB page in the hopes that it helps shed some light on the unique situations that affect the veterinary field and to give support to the emergency clinic in Maine that is suffering a terrible situation in a time where threats of violence are all to real.
