Our is Acorn. There is no adoption fee for Pet of the Week to approved homes.

Acorn is 22 pounds and 8 years young, looking for his forever home.

Acorn gets along great with other dogs. He is enthusiastic about about mealtime and takes his meds well. He's learning to walk politely without pulling and reacting to other dogs. He's great in the car, and potties outside as long as he's taken out on a schedule. Acorn has a mild heart murmur but it doesn't slow him down.

Acorn loves people and will snuggles up for a cozy nap. He doesn't bark much, and settles into his pen at bedtime. He would love a home with older kids, a couple, or a single person... Anyone who will give him love, snuggles and daily walks.

State of the Rescue: Why Do We Charge Adoption Fees?

We know adopting a pet is a big decision, and we do everything we can to set up our animals—and their new families—for success. That includes making sure they get the medical care they need before adoption. Because we specialize in special needs animals, that care is often extensive.

Take Worf, for example. When he came to us, he was a tiny puppy with severe burns requiring specialized treatment from multiple veterinarians. Thanks to our incredible community and dedicated supporters, Worf received the care he needed and is now a happy, thriving boy. But he’s not alone—many of our animals need surgeries, long-term medications, or ongoing care before they can find their forever homes.

Fundraising helps offset costs, but adoption fees also play a role in making sure we can continue to save lives. We keep our fees in line with other rescues and offer reduced fees for seniors and veterans because we want to make adoption accessible while still covering a fraction of the actual cost of care.

When you adopt, you’re not just giving one animal a second chance—you’re helping us continue this work for the next pet in need. Thank you for being part of this journey with us!

Meet Adam Maitland Beetlejuice!

Adam Maitland Beetlejuice is a four-year-old, 15 lb terrier mix with a heart as big as his name! This little survivor has been through a lot, but his spirit shines brighter every day.

In December, Adam was likely hit by a car, resulting in a broken back. He found himself at the Stockton Animal Shelter, where the stress of his situation caused him to shut down. Thankfully, the shelter reached out to Umbrella of Hope to request placement and we stepped in to give him the time and care he needed to heal. While his injury left him f***l incontinent, he doesn’t let that slow him down—he zooms up and down the stairs, always eager to follow his favorite humans.

When Adam first arrived, he was shy and unsure, but over the past two months, he has blossomed into a happy, affectionate little guy. While he may still be reserved when meeting new people, he quickly warms up and will gently nudge his head as close as possible, his way of saying, "Pet me, please!" Once he trusts you, his playful, loving nature shines through.

Adam wears a diaper indoors to manage his incontinence, but otherwise, he is an active, healthy pup who just wants to be by your side. He was recently neutered and is now officially ready to find his forever home!

He is being fostered in Sacramento, CA, where he is available to meet potential adopters. If you’re looking for a devoted, affectionate companion who will adore you endlessly, Adam Maitland Beetlejuice just might be your perfect match.

Barbie is a 31 lb shar pei mix who is looking for her forever home at 12 years young. Her ideal home would be calm and quiet, where she can relax and be spoiled.

Barbie is cuddly and loves affection. She is potty trained and can use the dog door or will ask to be taken out. She gets along well with other dogs and calmly ignores cats. She doesn't make much noise and is super easy going.

Barbie loves going for walks, and sleeps soundly at night. She has a good appetite and prefers smaller meals. She has medical needs and takes her eye drops three times a day. She has a tumor but otherwise just enjoys the simple things of life, like taking a bath.

We have TWO adoptions to celebrate this week!! 🎉🎉🎉

First we have JUNO BEETLEJUICE, her family fell in love at first sight and who could blame them? ❤️😍

Then we have Cinderblox. She was adopted and returned because the residents cats were not nice to her. Her foster dad decided he wanted to adopt her and naturally we said yes. 💜

As a foster home, you will always get the first option to adopt your foster. We have volunteers who have adopted many of our rescue dogs and cats. This week we are featuring one of our special needs dogs. Princess Pizookie Pinwheel Cookie came to us in December 2023 paralyzed and incontinent. Her foster family couldn’t bear to let her go so she adopted her in March 2024. Today, Princess is living her best life filled with lots of love. She’s been challenging to say the least but they do what’s best for her and that’s all we can hope for.

Introducing Pretty Boy Floyd – So Much More Than Just A Pretty Face!

While he could just rely on his adorable mug of a face, Floyd’s demeanor matches his looks - sweet, gentle and playful. This guy is the perfect mix of a snuggler and a walking companion. He enjoys his time chilling on the couch and strutting on the street.

This 2 year-old, 13 pound terrier mix from Antioch Animal Services settled into his foster home immediately - ready to give affection and play with the resident dog.

House Trained
Floyd doesn’t ask to out but will willingly go out in the backyard when the door is opened or eagerly wait for the leash to be put on to go for a walk. If you keep him on a schedule, there are no accidents.

Favorite Activities
Floyd loves gnawing on toys. For this master chewer, indestructible chew toys like Nylabone are recommended.

Dog Friendly
Floyd gets along great with other dogs. He’s a lover and not a fighter and will tolerate more aggressive play from the resident dog. Their game of chase is at a furious speed and fun to watch.

Food Enthusiast
He’s not picky and very enthusiastic about food. So much so, he likes to investigate when he smells something good, so care must be taken to keep things out of his reach.

Walks
Floyd can’t get enough. Floyd loves to walk. Want to know what he loves more…running! And not running in a good way, like bolting.
Floyd cannot be let loose yet as he will take off. Training will be a must in his new home to ensure his safety.

Commands
Floyd knows how to sit and shake.

Grooming
He is ok with having nails trimmed, being bathed and groomed except when it comes to his face. This pretty boy requires a gentle touch when you are grooming his face.

House Manners
Floyd doesn’t bark much, mostly outside if he hears other dogs. He’s will sleep in a crate and spend time in there while family is away. Funny quirk of Floyd’s is jumping in the tub for no reason than to jump right back out.

Floyd would thrive in any home. Older kids are recommended just because younger kids might leave doors open and Floyd would take off. As long as his new home could provide an activity level that matches his needs for daily walks and a yard to run in.

Floyd is an amazing companion who is affectionate, playful, active and smart. He is sure to bring joy to his new home. Floyd is fostered in Vacaville and potential adopters will have to meet him there.

Meet Worf StarTrek! Worf is a 9 month old NEUTERED MALE Maltese Mix that came to us back in August from San Jose Animal Services. He is fully vaccinate, microchipped and parasite free. When he first arrived he was suffering from a horrible burn to the face. Our vet felt it wasn’t a chemical burn and possible he was somewhere he shouldn’t have been and got too close.

Worf StarTrek is Back & Looking for His True Forever Home Worf, our little miracle survivor, has returned to us after struggling with his adoptive siblings. While his recovery from devastating burns was nothing short of incredible, his early start in life left him missing some crucial lessons in how to "speak dog." Worf was an abandoned, underage singleton puppy—taken from his mom and littermates far too soon. This lack of early socialization means he never got the chance to learn the dog-to-dog manners that puppies pick up from their families. Now, he has a tendency to be pushy and struggle with appropriate play and boundaries.

Because Worf missed this critical development time, we now have to work ten times harder to help him learn those skills—or find him a home where a confident, no-nonsense dog can teach him what his littermates couldn't. It's always hard to see an animal come back, but we are committed to finding Worf the right forever home. If you think your home could be his, please reach out. And if you ever see puppies being offered under 8 weeks old, know that they are being set up for a harder road—just like Worf. In the meantime, we'll be working with Worf to get him adoption ready.

Maya is best in her familiar spaces, and not a fan of most touches. She has sassy alligator rolls and playful hops if picked up but her "bites" are gentle and toothless. Maya will do best in a home without children. On the rare occasion she deigns to accept human interaction, she will give sweet brief kisses and accept ear rubs.

Maya loves exploring, naps, and mealtime. She's not a fan of crates but likes her own cozy enclosed space at night. She uses potty pads when needed but is still working on potty training, especially when outside her comfort zone.

Another day of celebrations!! Today we celebrate Hubbard SQUASH and his “foster fail” adoption. Foster fail isn’t a bad thing, it’s the rescue world language for “we love our foster enough to give him a beautiful life”. His foster family knew right away they wanted to make him a HUGE part of their family and we said YESSS!! His new name is JUNIOR!!

Meet Jimmy The Weasel Gangster!

Jimmy is a 4yr old, NEUTERED MALE Chihuahua Mix who came to us from East County Animal Services.

He is fully vaccinated, microchipped and parasite free.

It appears Jimmy was born with a birth defect that has caused him some facial deformity. He's perfectly fine eating and drinking.

At some point in his short life, he acquired a back leg injury that left his "ankle" fused. X-rays can be shared upon request. Our vet felt there is no need for follow ups since it was fused.

Jimmy was a volunteer favorite at the shelter.
After a few minutes with him you will see why that was. He's the happiest boy you would want to meet. He LOVES everyone, loves snuggles the best and he loves to give sloppy kisses. He can't help it, they are just sloppy lol.

Jimmy appears house broken but as we tell every new adopter, be prepared for a period of adjustment. He isn't a fan of the crate but after a few minutes he will settle down. He could use some leash manners because he just wants to go go go!! You should be in good shape if you want to keep up with him, too.

Jimmy would do best in any home actually. He loves people AND other dogs that aren't aggressive. He would be the perfect companion for an older child who has the strength to take him on walks. We do recommend training classes to allow Jimmy to excel at the top of his game.

Age: Now 12 Months Breed: German Shepard Mix (Possibly part English Bull Terrier) Size: Medium (27lbs) Maybelline came to us through the most unfortunate of circumstances and may be one of the worst abuse cases we've ever seen. She was confiscated from her owners with multiple broken ribs, a broken femur, a broken jaw, and a broken back. She also was diagnosed with brain injuries and was left completely blind due to her injuries. She was lethargic and in extremely bad shape. Luckily, with the amazing care of Antioch Animal Services and the East Bay VCA, she was able to make huge strides towards recovery. They reached out several months ago and asked us to take her into our Rescue and give her time to heal. When an animal goes through what Maybelline has been through they are typically very scared and shy animals. That is NOT Maybelline. This strong and resilient girl is as happy as can be. She is constantly wearing a big bright smile and wagging her big bushy tail. She LOVES people‍‍ and loves belly scratches even more. She is the sweetest girl in the world. Because of her blindness and brain injuries she does have a hard time getting around. Maybelline tends to wobble when she walks due to her spinal injury and often loses her footing resulting in her falling over. We have found that she does really well with boots on her back feet. Maybelline is good with dog saavy cats (mostly because she can't see them). She is very friendly with other dogs. She would not do well around super small fragile dogs because she could accidentally step on them. She also should be watched around super small children for the same reason so as not to accidentally knock them over. She loves to chew on toys and bones and absolutely loves to play. Potty training has been a big challenge because of her obvious cognitive and physical challenges. But she has done so well recently as long as she has access to the yard she will take herself out 8/10 times. She does wear diapers at nigh
