Cricket is thankful for all the snuggles and treats he's received since joining our cat lounge! But he, the other kitties, and our team need to rest.

We'll be closed to the public until Dec 6. If you had already submitted an adoption application and want to schedule a time to come visit with the kitties, please email us at [email protected].

And if you planned to use your time off this holiday to drop off donations, you can still do so anytime by leaving items behind the wooden gate at the door to 106 East Swissvale Ave, Pittsburgh PA 15218.

Cricket looks forward to seeing you all next week!

‼️URGENT REQUEST FOR DONATIONS‼️

We have 3 kitties at today for different issues and we were already carrying a balance on our account of over $1700 😞 Financial donations have been at an all time low this year and especially the last month. We get it - everyone is hurting to even afford groceries and housing right now! But PLEASE, if you're able, help us to cover the medical care for our cats.

On the left is Gambit from Turtle Creek, who is back at Rivers Veterinary Urgent Care after being treated a week ago for an ear infection. Dr. Niehaus had noticed her stomach was distended but we hoped it was just from a big meal. Unfortunately, Gambit's foster mom has seen the distention worsen so we're getting X-rays.

In the middle is Wilson, a 13-week-old kitten from Plum who is sweet as can be. This little guy has been receiving special care with us at the cat lounge since he was a month old. He is not able to p**p properly on his own. At his last visit, Dr. Dutra feared that he may have nerve damage affecting his a**l tone. Wilson cries in pain when he tries to p**p and he frequently experiences constipation. We've had him on laxatives and give him warm baths almost daily. Lately we've noticed some grey-colored stool so we brought him back in to see if he may have other systemic issues contributing to his strain.

And on the right is Osprey, a 6-month-old boy from a large colony in North Braddock. Osprey has so much energy and love, but when we integrated him into the cat lounge, we noticed that he gets winded easily and even pants with an open mouth after playing. We're having him checked for heart conditions or asthma today.

Please send a donation to help us cover these bills. If you can't donate then please share!

😽💕 Some late season bean sprouts joined us last week.

These little ones are from a colony we've been TNRing for the past couple years. If you've visited our cat lounge, you may remember Navani, Jasnah, Shallan, and Dal, who all found their forever homes. And Syl who is currently at our cat lounge 🥰 Well they all came from the same colony as these beans. We actually have several other kitties in foster homes right now that came from this colony, which is the result of a hoarding case in Plum. The human responsible had refused to fix her cats, and enjoyed watching the kittens be born but would put them outside once they began eating on their own. This practice led to a huge population of scared, under-socialized, young cats -- many with long fur that gets matted horribly. The hoarder passed away recently, but we're still dealing with the consequences of her carelessness.

We tried for several days to reunite these little guys with their mother. But with no signs of her, we've sent them to one of our fosters who is an experienced bottle feeder. We will have to attempt to trap mom without her babies to lure her. Hopefully these are the last kittens to be born to this area 🤞 but it's probably too much to hope for just yet.

Fortunately these three wee kittens will grow up spoiled and cared for by humans, unlike so many of the ones that came before them.

[DONATIONS STILL NEEDED]

Purple, one of our kittens is hanging in after 5 days of a persistent, high fever. He was sent home from where he received some anti-inflammatory meds to help bring down his fever of 105.1. Purple is being treated for "a fever of unknown origin". After the anti-inflammatory injection, he went back to playing with his siblings and acting like himself for a couple hours ♥️ But then his fever spiked again rising to 105.7!! 😿

He went to first thing in the morning and received antibiotics. He's back with us and we have been continuing supportive care. His fever has remained under 105 today but we're still so anxious for him and we'll continue to monitor his temperature in case he needs to go back to the clinic.

We did finally observe some congestion in his breathing and some infrequent coughing. The lack of other symptoms and the fact he still has his appetite was perplexing us. With the newly noted congestion we may bring him back in for chest X-rays in case he's developing pneumonia.

Unfortunately, we were already carrying our highest balance ever at Rivers Veterinary Urgent Care BEFORE sending Purple in... approximately $1500. We've received a handful of donations towards his vet bill and we're so grateful! But we haven't raised enough to offset his care the past couple of days and we anticipate he'll have more vet bills by the time he's past this 😞

If you would like to donate directly to the vet office, call Rivers Veterinary Urgent Care at 412-998-9030 and leave a payment on our account under Rescue and Relax.

[URGENT REQUEST FOR DONATIONS!!]

One of our Kennywood kittens is at the Emergency Vet - - with a persistent high fever 😿

Purple, as we've affectionately called him, was the first kitten that Randi found when she searched the bushes at the back in May.

Purple's caregivers noticed he wasn't quite himself on Wednesday night. He has been eating and littering normally but seemed less energetic than usual. Sure enough, he had a temperature of 104.6 (normal range for a cat is 100.5-102.5). We started daily fluids to help him stay cool and hydrated while we monitored his fever. His temperature went down to 103-104 the next couple of days but shot up again last night.

All through this episode, Purple still purrs and cuddles with us and runs to the dish when wet food is served, and aside from his low energy and not always greeting us at the door as we enter, he's shown few other signs of being sick.

Despite our best efforts to keep him comfortable, his fever has been over 105 since this morning. Clearly his body isn't able to fight this on his own so we decided to check in at the emergency vet to see what can be done to help him get through this🤞🥺

Please donate if you can. Our finances have been drained after such a rough summer of kitten season and so many medical cases that have come up recently. We really hoped we were in the final stretch and could focus on adoptions this month. ♥️ But there's never a dull moment and kittens especially know how to keep us on our toes.

The first batch of Kittens are getting big! Their mom (second pic) is slowly getting more comfortable around people. This group has 3 girls and 2 boys who we have yet to name. We'll make a post soon to gather name submissions 😻 For now we've been referring to them by the color of their collars.

We'll start inviting folks to meet them and apply to adopt once they've been fixed and vaccinated!

In the meantime, please help us support them and our other kittens by sending in more kitten wet and dry food! Our favorites right now are Fancy Feast Wet Kitten Food and PurinaOne Healthy Kitten Dry Food. You can find these and other options on our and wishlists.

[UPDATE] (Watch video with sound on)
We've named this sweet kitty Lego! We thought you'd enjoy hearing the voicemail we received from the vet who cared for her the morning after surgery ♥️

Lego is being cared for by one of our fosters who is a vet tech at South Side Flats Animal Hospital. They were able to do her initial bloodwork and x-rays so that when Paw Prints Veterinary Center in West Virginia confirmed they could squeeze her in for surgery on Saturday she was all set to go!

She's home now and on crate rest. Her leg had to be amputated to the shoulder, since without a healthy paw pad to walk on, leaving any of the leg remaining ran a high chance of her injuring it by attempting to support weight on it.

Fortunately cats adjust amazingly well after amputations and Lego is already walking around with a good degree of confidence.

Thank you to all who sent in donations and offered words of support and encouragement.

We don't know how someone let this happen to her and could let her go so long without care. The vet believes her paw had been in such a state for at least several weeks to be in the condition it was. We're shocked she didn't get an infection or at least didn't succumb to one... And that she remains so affectionate and trusting despite the horrible pain she must have experienced 😞

Once she has recovered from the amputation, Lego will be spayed and will be available for adoption once fully healthy and vetted.

As we mentioned in our last post, please continue to share and donate if you are able! Every little bit helps.

[WARNING! GRAPHIC PHOTOS BLURRED]

Oh. My. Goodness.

We have seen some gory scenes... But something about the lack of blood in this case makes it all the more creepy to us.

This poor baby was brought in to our rescue without warning Friday after supposedly being sent away from a local clinic.

The person surrendering her opened her container to reveal a cat with her paw completely degloved from wrist to paw... This cat has supposedly been owned for 4 years and a leash got tangled around her paw...?

No matter what - we were not sending this cat away. The caretaker claimed they couldn't drive or we would have recommended a humane surrender at an emergency clinic 😞 We are NOT accepting surrenders. And honestly we'll have to charge our upcoming spays and neuters to a credit card in order to afford them. We've had FIVE urgent care appointments this week alone for cats already in our care. But this cat needed SOMEONE to step up and each place that may turn this cat away would risk her being further neglected.

So here we are. Asking for help again. It's truly exhausting 😞 We already have to carry the emotional weight and strain on our schedules and energy to coordinate care for these babies. There should be more public funding for these creatures. We're overwhelmed and burning out. This season has been awful. And if you've had to ask for money you know how awful it feels - and if you've had to ask more than once you know how humbling it gets to admit you need more.

But. We. Need. More.

And it's not your responsibility. Or your fault. Or ours. Or these cats'. We know that. But we're often their only voice.

So please contribute and share. This girl who we have yet to name is in crisis and - no matter what - we will get her what she needs. Please help now... and if you're able... Please continue to help even when we're not begging for it 😞
