Japanese Knotweed and Goldenrod are in bloom and the 🐝 are taking full advantage of the nectar. The hives are packed with capped honey and fresh nectar.

Moving a swarm to the 🐝yard this morning. They will be moved into a new home this afternoon. As soon as I opened their entrance after their ride they were anxious to fly.

Busy pulling 🍯 supers today. Tomorrow I will be busy extracting all of the beautiful dark red honey that we are lucky enough to have in Western, PA produced by Japanese Knotweed and fall nectar sources. 🐝

She’s covered in pollen! 🐝 She will clean herself up, store the pollen in her “pollen pockets” on her legs and fly back to the hive to pack it into a cell where eventually it will be turned into bee bread used as food for raising young 🐝.

Never seen so many 🐝. This hive is literally overflowing with 🐝 and 🍯. This lack of rain this past month apparently wasn’t an issue these hives continue to expand at a rapid rate. Added more supers on the hives to give them space and more room to work.

3 shades of deliciousness! Can’t go wrong with any choice you make. If your after the light it will probably go fast only a small amount harvested this season. Stop by and stock up. 3lb and 1lb options. Plenty of uses for honey. Summer cookouts, grilled veggies, mixed drinks, breakfast, desserts…🍯 🐝

8:30am quick inspection. They already are up had their cups of ☕️ and already out foraging for nectar and pollen! These girls don’t mess around!

Dropped off the swarm at the bee yard early this morning. Stopped back after work, removed the swarm from the swarm trap and put them in their new home. In just 5 days they drew out quite a bit of comb, the queen 🐝 was laying eggs and they were brining in a lot of pollen and nectar. Life at the beeyard. 🍯

Wonder what nectar and pollen sources your local honey is coming from? Here in my backyard this worker is not only collecting nutrients for the hive, but I also get the benefit of pollination! Love it.

Catching bees is fun…especially when they weren’t from my hives! I knew yesterday the level of scout activity I was expecting they would move in today.

Watch her dance! She may just look like
She’s having a good time on the dance floor but actually she is communicating to her fellow sisters where the local hotspot for pollen is! You can see the pollen on her rear legs. It’s called the “Waggle Dance”. They take notes on her turns for directions and then they head out to forge that location. I should remind you they do this in the darkness of the hive, on the side of a frame..amazing. 🐝 🍯

Swarm trap up. Within 1 hour this is the level of “scout” bee activity. These bees are tasked with finding, measuring the space, and relaying info and coordinates about a new home for a hive that is about to swarm. Stay tuned to see if any 🐝 decide to make this their temporary home.

Sunny days call for perfect springtime hive inspections. Can you spot the queen? Hives are already beginning to fill up with eggs and brood. They will eventually emerge from their cells and keep the cycle of life going! 🐝 🍯
