Arthritis affects many of our senior patients and now there is a product giving owners hope to help relieve their dog's pain.

Librela is the first and only monthly injectable monoclonal antibody therapy for dogs with osteoarthritis pain.
The video below shows our patient, Mo, who is a 9 1/2 year old pitbull mix who has been struggling with arthritis pain. We have attempted to treat his symptoms over the past year with various pain relievers, eg. carprofen, gabapentin, galliprant and codeine, with little to no real improvement seen.

Mo received his first Librela injection on May 1st. The video documents Mo's weekly progress thereafter. As you can see, there is marked improvement in his mobility.

Mo received his second injection yesterday and we expect to see him continue to show relief and potentially even more improvement! Thank you to Mo's owner for sharing this video with us to help other pets like Mo!

In honor of World Spay Day, we want to take a moment to share the importance of getting your pet spayed or neutered. Approximately 7.6 million companion animals enter US animal shelters nationwide every year and so much work needs to be done to lower these staggering numbers.

February is National Dental Month! 😿 Do you see that missing piece of tooth? That's a feline odontoclastic resorptive lesion (FORL for short). We often refer to them as "neck lesions" or "resorptive lesions" and they are *extremely* painful!

WHAT HAPPENS?
The tooth literally begins to disintegrate slowly, leaving the nerve exposed. Anything that touches it causes a jolt of pain - food, water, toys...it will make your cat miserable, though she may try her best not to show you.

WHY? HOW DO WE FIX IT?
Despite years of research, veterinary science has yet to pinpoint a reason why this happens, and the best course of treatment is to extract the tooth.

Part of the procedure includes digital dental x-rays to help us detect disease that may not be visible to the naked eye - so if there's a problem developing, we can catch it *early* and prevent the need for a second anesthetic event.

Schedule a dental for your pet and receive a $50 discount as a National Dental Month promotion!

10 tips to help keep your dogs safe from the effects of :
If you've lived in PA for any length of time, you know how corrosive road salt is to the metal on your car or truck. Now think of what it does to your dog's paws! 🐾😢

1. Avoid walking your dog in heavily salted areas.

2. Massage musher’s wax, petroleum jelly or other paw protectants into paw pads before going outside.

3. If your dog will tolerate something on its feet, consider booties.

4. Bring a towel on long walks to clean off stinging, irritated paws.

5. After each walk, wash and dry your pet’s feet and stomach to remove ice, salt, and chemicals.

6. Check for cracks in paw pads or redness between the toes.

7. Trim hair between dog’s toes to make it easier to protect and clean.

8. Apply a pet paw balm after cleaning to keep protected. Try a DIY recipe or use olive oil, organic shea butter, organic coconut oil or another organic paw balm. Balms should also be applied to your dog’s nose and ears.

9. Use ice-melt products that state they are 100% safe for pets, children, and the planet like Safe Paw Ice Melter, or make your own pet-safe ice melt using Dawn dish soap, rubbing alcohol and hot water.

10. Read the ingredients label on “pet-friendly” and “pet-safe” ice-melt products to ensure they truly are safe.

Dental disease is a reality for most cats. 😿 By age 4, many cats have significant gingivitis (inflammation of the gums) and the risk of periodontal disease rises every year.
Periodontal disease is a slow progressing but serious disease that causes pain and affects your cat's overall health and well-being.
It's important to note that cats will most often NOT show signs of oral discomfort. Because the pain associated with dental problems comes on slowly over time, they simply learn to live with it. (Compare it to having a chronic headache - you're not going to shout "OUCH!" as you would if you knocked your head on a cabinet door.)
It's important that all cats see a veterinarian annually to assess their oral health. A healthy mouth improves your feline friend's quality of life!
Schedule a feline dental in the month of February and receive $50 off along with a bag of goodies to aid in your pet's dental health.

🐶🐱Pets are part of the family, but keeping them healthy is becoming increasingly expensive. 💲
USA Today research shows that pet care is 11% more expensive than it was just two years ago. Inflation is affecting everyone - even your pets!

Our veterinarians recommend pet insurance to help with the expense of owning a pet. There are many pet insurance options to choose from: Pumpkin, Trupanion, Lemonade, Pet Assure, Wagmo, Nationwide… and the list goes on.

Each company offers different plans and coverage. Determining which plan works best for you and your pet can be overwhelming.

Pet insurance provider, Pumpkin (rated best for preventative care by USA Today), hosts a website to help you compare companies. You can also search online for “Pet Insurance Comparison.”

Looking into getting pet insurance or giving your furry friend preventive care? Learn the differences between the two in our detailed guide.
