On Saturday, Matt and I found a little kitten in our alleyway who was presenting with neurological issues, including a head tilt and wobbly movements. We took her to the ER vet, but they suggested waiting to do any testing until after a 10 day quarantine, due to the unknown nature of her illness and the possibility of rabies. We felt as though this was highly unlikely, given she had no wounds and was displaying no other symptoms of it.

We monitored her for a few days, and she was happily eating, playing, and using the litter box! However, we were concerned about waiting out the quarantine and possibly leaving something untreated. With the help of a local rescue, Bridges From Kuwait, we were able to get her into the vet that works with them yesterday. They were happy to start treatment and asses her. The vet is currently monitoring her closely, and started her on some antibiotics and an ear treatment.

We are so lucky to have such a stellar rescue in our neighborhood, and such kind neighbors who reach out to help animals in need! Wobbles is doing well, and while we don’t know the exact cause yet, we are hopeful that she will continue to be stable and hopefully improve with treatment!

PSA! With fireworks season coming up, now is a great time to talk to your vet about options for medication if your dog struggles with fireworks.

Also, more pets go missing July 4th-6th than any other year, according to animal control officials nation wide. Please make sure that your pets have updated microchips, are wearing updated tags with contact information, and keep an eye out for door dashing cats when coming in and out during fireworks. For dogs, consider leashed potty breaks even if your yard is fenced. The time it takes to leash them and walk with them is much less than time spent searching if they get scared and bolt.
