Flyball is a super fun fast paced sport! Dogs take 4 jumps, grab a ball off of a mechanized box, take those 4 jumps back while carrying their ball (and then the next dog on the team goes if they aren't dog singles).
This class covers important foundation skills to know before working on the sequence of the game! Recalls, ball retrievers, recalling with a friend, matwork and wallboard work for boxturns, and a ton of work watching dogs calmly as they have fun!
Class starts July 15 at 7:25pm! Register on our website!

This is the last 2.5 minutes of about 6 minutes of video I took of Meep having some feelings in his pen within the first week of him coming home (the first 4 minutes were 50% more intense and the pauses were 50% shorter, but there were still pauses and de-escalation). As it unfolded, I realized how great of an example it is of a situation where I absolutely do let them work through feelings when in a pen or crate.
(Also when I say close supervision in the video, I'm not engaging with him, I'm pointing my phone at him but looking at the TV, but I'm right there in case he jumping on the bars he pinches a toe or what not, and also why he has a collar on. If he's unsupervised, the collar comes off, if I'm in the room, it typically stays on so I can run him outside on leash quickly if needed).
The feelings I let them work through are tired feelings or feelings of being unsettled and not knowing how to sleep\settle\chew as a response to those feelings. This will NOT work if the feelings are about the pen or crate or confinement. The puppy must be good in the box as a baseline. If they can't be in the pen most of the time with no fussing, this isn't how to respond.
In most cases, the fussing in the crate is about the confinement and crying it out is only going to create more problems with the crate or pen and you shouldn't do it.
But in reality, letting them out anytime they vocalize a little may not be the right answer either (see my doodle as an example of this. Truly this is likely WHY she became mine). This is a really good example of when I do let them work it out and won't just let them out and rethink my plan.
So enjoy 1min 50sec of him fussing, jumping at the bars, biting bars, and then 40 seconds of him falling asleep lol

And the spot is filled! We've had some shuffling around in our Scentwork classes that start Tuesday 1/2/24 and we have one spot open in the Intermediate Scentwork at 7:20pm.
This is a rare opportunity to jump into one of Melissa's classes. It's only happened a few times in 5 years that we post about her classes having a spot. I don't expect this class to last long now that we are sharing it!
Our class levels are not he same as other places. Our intermediate is more like a level 3 class elsewhere (many already have ORTs, NW1, level 1 or 2 CWAGs titles, etc).
Intermediate students should meet one or more of the following:
1. Completed our Intro to Elements at least twice and with permission of Tena to move on
2. Can find all 4 common odors, are familiar with interior, exterior, container, buried, submerged, and vehicle searches, can work outside at our training center's shopping center environment, can be in class around other dogs successfully (minimal barking), an owner who can read their dog well enough to call an alert OR a dog with good enough trained final response for the handler to call.

(Enjoy Oswin's NW2 second interior search video! She's done most of her sniffy stuff in class with Melissa and she has great independence, great confidence, zero issues with falsing, etc. )
Magic Mat class is really a super fun class! High speed sport foundation skills for flyball, agility, rally, and obedience plus the settle side of mats for greeting people, inviting guests in the home, getting your door dash dinner without drama. Plus a lot of work on adding distance to skills your dog already knows!
This class turns out to be a favorite by many students because of the fast paced games that are great at tiring out their pup and adding a new level of skills by adding distance to tricks or skills!
