Bringing a new dog home? 🐶 Adjusting to a new environment can be tough for dogs, but with patience, understanding, and a bit of guidance, you can help make this transition smoother.

Dogs often go through what’s known as the “3-3-3” adjustment period: ➡️First 3 days: They might feel overwhelmed, acting hyper, extra-curious, or clingy. Some may even appear unusually calm. ➡️ First 3 weeks: As they start to settle, they’ll test boundaries, showing shifts in energy and behavior. You might notice them becoming more independent or seeking more attention. ➡️ First 3 months: By this time, your dog will likely feel comfortable, revealing their true personality and preferences for people, activities, and even favorite toys or treats.

Remember, every dog adjusts at their own pace, and some may not follow this guideline exactly. Your patience and care will go a long way in helping them feel safe and loved in their new home. 💗

If your dog is showing signs of stress, it’s okay! They may need more time and reassurance as they figure out what makes them feel secure. Whether they need more exercise, extra snuggles, or more space, being flexible with their needs is key. 🐕

Give them time, and soon enough, they’ll be wagging their tails, feeling at home, and showing you their most confident selves.

Once they've been settled in their new home for at least two weeks, bring them to Camp for an interview! We're here to fulfill all your pup’s socialization and exercise needs!

Meet Hans, a loyal companion to his family and one handsome pup. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with a perilous salivary gland condition, causing a strange growth and major discomfort. Thankfully, the Bow Wow Buddies Foundation granted Hans a lifeline through a medical grant. Along with Safari Veterinary Care's expertise and care, Hans had the necessary surgery in order to reclaim his zest for life. “They [Camp Bow Wow] are the only place I feel completely comfortable leaving my pup. It's clear that the entire team genuinely cares for her well-being. Every time we arrive, my dog gets so excited to see everyone, and it's heartwarming to watch her joyfully greet the staff. The care and attention she receives are exceptional, and I have complete peace of mind knowing she is in such loving hands. The facility is always clean and well-maintained, and the staff is professional, friendly, and truly passionate about what they do. If you're looking for a place where your dog will be loved and well taken care of, I highly recommend Camp Bow Wow. They treat your pet like family, and it's the best feeling knowing my dog is happy and safe when she's there.” Thank you to all the pet parents who leave us thoughtful reviews! ❤️

Member of the Month: Kobe (left)
The Generett family has been coming to camp since 2014, starting with their super sweet Sadie. Sadie still comes in for boarding and grooming with him, but Kobe is a frequent daycare member. He's been coming since he was just a pup starting in our group puppy class. He interviewed in December 2020 as just a pup in our small play group. Kobe is now a large camper who you can often spot on the top of the bridge. He's so sweet and always loves all the pets from the staff. He will usually offer a paw wave to let you know he's looking for some love on the bridge. Kobe is a great dog to introduce to our newest campers. We have enjoyed watching him grow up with us for these last 3 1/2 years and are looking forward to many more years with him!

Camper of the Month: Daemon (right)
Daemon is such a wonderful camper! He is an extremely athletic camper! He keeps us all on our toes. He has been coming to camp for a little over two years now. He is such a good friend to all of the dogs. He loves the staffs' attention. Daemon's favorite things are on the top of the bridge and lunch time!
We look forward to many more years with Daemon.

Highland Park Member of the Month: Cain (left)
Cain is the cutest Pomeranian I've ever met! He was shy on interview day. That however did not last long. He spins, barks his way to the teacup yard! He loves his back end above the tail scratched it makes him smile and spin. Shortly after he was interviewed became a member at camp. We are so glad he loves it here! A real addition to our camp family.
Highland Park Camper of the Month: Felix (right)
Felix has been coming to camp since October of 2022. We love Felix and his pet parents. He makes us all so happy to see him come in so excited to play. He has a girlfriend named Marlee that is also so excited to see Felix! He loves to stand on his back legs and wave to you when he gets here in the morning and at the end of the night for a treat! We are so grateful to have Felix be a part of the camp family for the past couple of years. We hope to have him for many more years!

Highland Park Member of the Month: Millie
This is our sweet Millie. She is one of the newest of our members here at Highland Park. She was a star student in puppy class. She without a doubt loves everyone and every dog. She also loves to have sleepovers and play time at camp. Millie's goal is to carry as many soft stuffed toys in her mouth as possible while her tail is wagging away. She was in the same class as Apollo. They are best friends. It is the cutest when they see each other in the play yard for the first time. True love. We are glad after the classes are over, we still get to see Millie. So, we say thank you to her parents for sharing her with us.

Highland Park Camper of the Month: Apollo
This is Apollo, our sweet puppy German Shepherd. He just graduated top of his puppy class at Highland Park. He now has joined us at camp. He is such a happy, playful pup. He is growing up so fast. Some of his classmates have also joined him camp Millie and Opey both Golden Retrievers. Apollo loves to come to camp but loves it when his dad picks him up at the end of the day. We are so glad they have also joined the camp family. We look forward to him growing up with us.

May Campers of the Month!

Member of the Month Morty:

Mortimer(Morty) has been a member of camp since he was a puppy in 2016. Morty has a litter mate here as well. Kim, our Assistant Director, has Penny, his sister. They celebrate their Birthdays together at camp. So cute! Morty is one that will sit on your feet in the yard. Morty will give a scratch at your leg for pets. He likes to be outside in the sun! He also likes to jog with his mom. He has wonderful parents that are now like family. We are certainly looking forward to more years at camp with Morty. He is a very happy camper and we all love to see Morty.

Camper of the Month George:

Mr. George the adorable hound puppy. George loves camp so much! He runs back to be let in the yard. Snoozes on the bridge for a bit. Mom brings fresh chicken and vegetables for his lunch. He likes it heated just a little. It's been 6 months since George joined us at camp. He may be the most excited on arrival yet!!!! He has made so many friends both human and dog. George gets to enjoy his days at camp while mom is working hard as a nurse. We are so glad to have George and Ms. Robbie joining our camp family. He is the sweetest little hound puppy ever!

Little Sprout was found abandoned with a broken leg. Saving Great Animals rescue took him in and placed him with one of their fosters where he is slowly gaining trust of people. He was very shut down at first but is now coming out of his shell. There is a great deal of optimism about his prognosis given he has a great foster family helping him through recovery. The Bow Wow Buddies Foundation is honored to partner with rescue groups and fosters dedicated to helping pups in need. If you would like to lend a paw, visit bowwowbuddies.com to learn more. 💛

Highland Park Member of Month: Melo (left)
Melo joined us at camp in 2018. Melo is here with us Monday through Friday. So, he is really part of the family. We love mom just as much! Melo enjoys his treats. He loves to grumble, and lots of pets and lots of love!!! We use him for every interview to introduce new campers to camp. He is a very confident camper. If you do not see him inside, he is probably catching the sun outside sprawled out with few others that like to join him. We enjoy every minute with Melo. We look forward to checking him out at night and giving him his goodbye treat! We look forward to many more years with Melo.

Highland Park Camper of the Month: Max (right)
Max is a beautiful 3-year-old black labrador retriever. He is the most pleasant of all the campers. They call him wiggle butt. He is now a big brother to new baby human brother. Mom can do it all carrying the baby and Max walks perfectly with them. He is honestly friends with every camper!! They all must think he smells really good. They like to sniff him when he gets here. We are so happy to have Max and his growing family at camp. He is also very photogenic.
