The buffalo, and people, in/ near South Park (county Park) need support. I signed.

Please take a moment and read this - We need Your Help!!

Calling all “Friends of the Buffalo” the South Park Buffalo need your help. One of the most frequent things that we hear is “Please let us know what we can do to help!” I believe this is one of those times. Our amazing buffalo family have enjoyed the peace and quiet of the upper Sesqui Drive area for almost 100 years. If you’ve been up there you know what we mean – just such a peaceful relaxing space where so many of us go to just unwind and watch our favorite buffalo family!

Once again we have a major development proposed for the heavily wooded 60 acres located just across Sesqui Drive from the buffalo! The heavily wooded area we see that runs directly behind picnic groves all the way down Sesqui Drive to Brakenridge Drive to the model airfield. All those dense woods, some of the oldest growth in Allegheny County that everyone just assumes is a part of the county park will be gone forever, and our peaceful Sesqui Drive will be replaced with overcrowded housing!

Our research and discussions that we’ve had with people who know these noise-adverse animals, believe that development this close to them will have an impact on them. And remember, these buffalo are in an enclosure and can’t move to a more quiet spot like they would in the wild.
So please help! Continue being the voice of this buffalo family and sign the Change.org petition to oppose this development.

There are other housing developments happening and in the near future for what’s becoming a crowded South Park but the potential loss of this strategic green space, cutting into the county park itself and the proximity to buffalo family make this a development that we must work together to prevent.

And just so you know, we have worked closely with the property owners, the Allegheny Land Trust, the County and other strategically connected people to ensure that the Land Trust is ready with the agreement to buy this property once this current contract to purchase lapses. At that point the property would become a part of the county park and look like it does today forever.

The Friends of the Buffalo have been very satisfied and thankful for the efforts of the Allegheny County leaders who have stepped up to help the buffalo over the past year since we have been working with them. And the great news is the county listened and is planning more improvements for the buffalo and their visitors in the near future.

We now turn to the appointed and elected officials of South Park Township and hope they understand and appreciate that South Park has been the caretakers of the buffalo, our national mammal, since 1927. I do not want to be a part of the generation that chose development over the buffalo. This beautiful buffalo family deserves better and deserves our voice of support.

Meet Celeste!

Hi, I'm Celeste!

I'm a striking black beauty with green eyes, a white spot on my chest, and a couple white hairs at the corner of one eye. I have the softest fur!

I was living outside until I was rescued along with my 3 boys. My boys are all in great homes now and I'm ready for my own forever home!

I'm quickly won over with treats. I love to get pets. I like to play ribbon toys with people and I enjoy playing ball all on my own.

I love to spend time with other cats but would also do well as a "one and only".

**I am not yet comfortable with being picked up so crating/transport at this time is being accomplished with the use of a trap. I'll likely make faster progress in my forever home because I'm one of many cats in my foster home.**

The best home for me would be on the quiet side with people who don't mind getting down on my level until I'm comfortable. I'm a soft talker, especially when it's time for me to eat. My "meow" sounds more like "meep."

Big Snugglebug!

Ever wanted to snuggle a bear cub? Murph is the next best thing! Look at that sweet face! This big, handsome guy was living the hard life on the streets before his rescue. His teeth were in such bad shape they all had to be removed! That certainly doesn't slow him down and he lives a happy life with no special diet needed. You've never met a more grateful dude! Murph loves to play, relax on the couch, and sleep right next to your face. He is FIV+, but has no current health issues and can live a long normal life with other friendly FIV- cats.

Hi, I'm CJ!

I'm a beautiful adult male black cat with white markings.

I love to get pets and watch the world through the storm door. My favorite toy is an empty plastic Easter egg all year long. Second favorite is a track ball toy.
I'm an active player. It would be great to have a friend who likes to play like me but I'd be just as happy as a one and only with a person who will daily engage with me in active play.

I have many toys and playmates here so I've been too busy to experiment with being a lap kitty, but I enjoy being picked up and carried around. I love attention, especially scratches under the chin and belly rubs.

Meet Oreo!

Meet Oreo!! He’s a sweet tuxedo boy. He’s a young adult.

He was trapped in his foster's neighborhood, and he has been living with his foster family for a couple of years now. During this time he has come so far with his socialization, and he is now ready to find a family and home to call his own.

His new family must be patient with him and follow proper acclimation. He will need to get used to his new family and home, which will be scary for him, as his foster home is all he’s known, but with unconditional love, patience, and time he will make a lovable companion.

He loves to get pets, especially on his back and tail. He loves to sit with you, and he loves to watch the fish on his iPad. He has the cutest chirping meow. He also loves to chase the laser pointer.

Oreo is great with other kitties, in fact, he would do best in a home with another kitty, but he would be fine by himself too! He would love to get all the attention also.

Meet James Bond!

The name’s Bond… James Bond and I’ve got my best tuxedo on just for you. Now that I have your attention, let me tell you a little about myself. I like to work very closely with people when I go on a cuddle mission. I’m not sure if dogs would fit in with my missions unless they prefer to work solo and let me do my thing. And other cats? Well, I am James Bond so I would want to be their boss and would order them to work on other missions away from me. I’m a fairly independent guy when it comes to my line of work. I also prefer my “catniptinis” to be shaken, not stirred.
