Jen and Laura dreamed of a safe haven for senior animals that are generally considered "less adoptable" or "difficult to place." As owners and lovers of elderly pets, they realized these animals needed their help and homes. Senior Pet and Animal Rescue (SPAAR) transformed that dream into a heartfelt reality. Through grassroots outreach efforts, SPAAR commits to educating the public about the advan

tages of adopting a senior animal and on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. In addition, SPAAR will work directly and individually with pet owners to help keep senior animals with their families and in their homes, reducing the number of senior animals that are surrendered to shelters. At this time, SPAAR is a 100% foster-based animal rescue organization. While our long-term plan includes a safe, comfortable space dedicated to senior animals, currently all of our animals, including those in hospice care, reside in foster homes.

In 2017 we weren't sure if we'd have seven weeks with our dear Milo, who battled with cancer. Seven YEARS later, he still continues to amaze us 💚

And we 💯 know that his mom Jen is the reason. Her unending love and constant care has given our one-eyed hospice pug the absolute best life a senior pet could ever hope to have.

While we haven't been active on social media lately, we have been working hard behind the scenes to keep our seniors and those in our community happy and healthy.

As we head into National Senior Pet Month in November, please consider supporting our mission. On this last day of 2022, we are heartbroken to let you know that sweet Baxter is no longer with us.

At SPAAR we do everything we can to make our seniors feel happy, healthy, safe, at peace, and at home. No matter what we tried, Baxter just didn't get there.

We could go through the laundry list of his issues, ailments, and problems. But, in the end, he was an old dog that was searching, pleading for an end to his pain.

Thank you to his foster Jen who did literally everything she could to bring Baxter comfort. While he did know pain, he also knew love.

Baxter, we hope you're resting easy now. We miss you 💔

Let's start Monday off with an adorable dog video. Old dogs are full of surprises! We recently found out that Brutus knows how to play fetch!!

Beauty got to spend some time exploring outside and soak in some sunshine in her foster family's fenced-in yard (on her harness, of course). Our girl is being treated for a severe UTI and has started her new kidney-friendly KD diet. So if anyone has left over KD cat food we will happily come pick it up for Miss Beauty!
