I just wanted to make a post really quickly about this specific topic because the summer months are coming and I have had A LOT of questions about it.

We will not shave double coated dogs, the only exception is written consent from a vet due to a medical condition.

It DOES NOT cool your dog off, it does quite the opposite. Their coat reflects sun rays and their undercoat protects them from the heat, just like it does in the winter with the cold. This can cause alopecia, patchy coat, and dead/unhealthy hair.

Deshed treatments and outline trims can help rid of the excessive shedding, and keep their coat healthy to help you out!

Even some mixed breeds like doodles have a double coated and cannot be shaved!

April Is National Heartworm Awareness Month!

Unfortunately we have diagnosed 2 cases of heartworms just this year already. In this area your pets are at a higher risk of contracting them because of the rivers and weather.

These are some common misconceptions surrounding heartworms! We have these conversations everyday in clinic, we will always strive to educate and make owners aware!

Your heartworm test is free with us if you buy 6 or more months of preventative because we want you to have peace of mind that they are negative and to most importantly keep them safe and protected!

Nothing better than puppy snuggling x2!

Puppies should have a total of 3-4 vaccines and rabies by the time they are 16 weeks old in order to protect them from some pretty serious viruses including parvo! During the first 16 weeks public places where animals commonly go should be avoided with puppies (Farm and Home, Ace Hardware, Pet Stores, and Dog Parks etc.) After they are fully vaccinated it’s great to take them out and socialize them with unfamiliar surroundings to make them as comfortable as possible in their adult years!

Due to the storm and snow accumulation we will be closed tomorrow for the safety of our clients and staff.
