We thank cat room volunteer Sam, who, for the second year in a row collected donations from her colleagues at the Berkshire Probate and Family Court. She received such a good supply of donations the year prior, she decided to organize a fundraiser again this year! We thank not only Sam for thinking of us, but to her colleagues as well! We appreciate not only your time as a volunteer, but your compassion towards animals in need!

We hope you've been enjoying your holidays just as much as shelter Alum Lenco.

His adopter is a busy Special Education Teacher at Bart and she stated they "were ready for school vacation" and were "enjoying the holidays on the snowy lake".

Sounds like a purr-fect way to spend the howl-i-days!

This lovely lady is Peppermint Patty, and true to her name, she’s an incredibly sweet little treat! Peppermint Patty is an 11-month-old Lhasa Apso/Pug mix who arrived at Berkshire Humane Society with her siblings due to housing restrictions. Although this group of girls exhibited a tight bond, Peppermint Patty has had a taste of living on her own, and would actually prefer a home without other dogs. She is however, respectful with cats and is OK to live with a feline roommate. She can potentially have playdates with small, gentle and considerate pups as well. Due to lack of socialization in her prior home, Peppermint Patty is quite fearful initially, but once she knows her people, she’ll bond to you for life and she’ll make the perfect lap dog. She wants nothing more than quiet, patient adopters who are willing to spend the time working with her not only on socialization and confidence, but house training as well. Due to her apprehension with new people and loud noises, she’ll need a home without children and would do best with teens and older, or preferably a quiet, adult-only home. Peppermint Patty enjoys walks and is working on her leash manners where she has made great progress. She has also found that toys are a new and exciting endeavor, which helps grow her bond with those around her. If you think you have the time and patience to provide this lovely girl, please reach out to the kennel staff at Berkshire Humane Society at (413)-447-7878 ext. 126 and perhaps “sweeten” the deal.
If you adopt Peppermint Patty by January 5th, a portion of her adoption fee will be sponsored by Haddad Subaru!

Today we'd like to share the sweet story of Polly the cat's adoption -

"This year in June we adopted Polly. The day we brought Polly home, she walked through all the rooms and looked into all the places and then lay down approvingly on the sofa. There was no adaptation, no timidity in the new place! It was very unusual.
And the next day Polly acted as if she had always lived with us. After a week she completely settled in, accepted our lifestyle, loved looking at the birds and animals on the backyard from different windows and was very happy playing with cat toys.
Polly turned out to be a very smart cat who always listens carefully to what you say to her, understands and remembers everything. She is very beautiful with soft fluffy fur. Polly is exactly the cat we needed: moderately quiet, moderately playful, moderately independent and at the same time very loving to her owners.
Many thanks to the shelter workers for their much needed work, patience and kind hearts. All animals are kept in excellent condition and the care taken for them is very evident. Special thanks to Bry for her patience and understanding, without her we would have left the shelter empty-handed."

We thank Polly's adopters for not only providing her with the perfect home, but for their kind words as well.

If you have an adoption story you'd like us to highlight, please feel free to share it with us by emailing [email protected]
