Strawberries
Everyone enjoying the last of the strawberries!
Second hay delivery came in today. Timothy orchard mix and it smells amazing! 44 bales all tucked away nice and dry in the pole barn.
Late morning strawberry picking and I had a friend stop by for quality control
New Herefords have arrived!
Our two new steers have settled in nicely the last few days. They are very very sweet!
Cows and ram thoroughly enjoying the fresh cut grass clippings from the pool yard. As soon as they hear the mower start they run over anticipating the treat.
Spring has sprung
Gathering eggs with Fiona and Gus. It was 6:45 PM and still sunny out. Everyone is loving Spring!
These hens are ridiculous! There are 5 other nesting boxes empty at that time.
Look at what little guy paid me a visit before he got turned out into the pasture! I’ve been on bed rest since he’s been born and Chris brought him in for me to see and pet before he joins all the big animals. He’s so sweet and so soft! He def cheered me up!
Fiona and Gus are setting up an ambush for any predators trying to get into the coop tonight!!! Or just on their union break!
We get asked about how do cows sleep sometimes. Well most of the time they relax in the position like the Herefords (brown & white) but occasionally you catch the passed out like the Angus. But overall, they do not sleep more than a few hours a day.
I put a game camera in the back of the pasture because it is interesting to see the nighttime activity, sometimes. This camera has been back there for several weeks, but it looks like someone just noticed it!
Fresh eggs are available! Please text/call ahead for pickup-609-685-2866. $5.00/dozen Pasture raised, hormone and antibiotic free eggs.
With all the rain, Fiona was obviously counting sheep as she caught up on her sleep. She went full defense mode when I startled her! lol
Fire roasted peppers on the Santa Marie grill this morning!
Ran to Petco and grabbed 5 goldfish this afternoon. We are hoping they can keep the stock tank free of algae. There are studies that claim this is beneficial because they will feed on the algae, mosquito larvae and bugs. We wanted to give this a try- supposedly they can live for years! Fingers crossed this is more successful than carnival fish!! 🐟
The lambs enjoying the beautiful weather……and the ball.
Who doesn’t remember playing in the sprinkler on a hot day. Plus drinking out of the hose!
Fiona, our 6 month old Livestock guardian dog, was not happy with whatever was making this noise last night. Can anyone identify the animal? Sorry- that is as loud as I could make it…
Mealtime!! Mabel is doing a great job! Our pigs have not known us but for a few weeks since we brought them to our farm and she is so trusting. Letting us touch, inspect, and pick up the piglets. Allowing us to be right in there as she is feeding them- One of the characteristics of the IPPs is that they are very friendly and docile- it is definitely evident! Hard to believe they will be weaned in 4-6 weeks and should weigh approximately 20 lbs each!
Not sure if you’ve ever been so hungry that you get angry? Oscar knows all about hangry! Even though he had his own breakfast AND the cows’ breakfast. He knew there was grain left in the trough and wasn’t going to rest until he ate it all! He reminds me of an angry guy w ‘roid rage at the gym pushing the sled across the floor.
