Pucks working equitation!
Pucks Jump video
I’m very proud of my little pony.
Spearing the ring off the "Bull", blooper reel time.
Pretty sure Puck thought I wanted him to crash into the can (which I bought today specifically to try and scare him with the noise of the metal, he was obviously so scared 😑), and then that mounting block looks so much like a pedestal, but we were going too fast so it turned into a jump. Goodness does he try ♡.
My pivo cut off a couple of the obstacles, but managed to get most of them! This is this first time I've asked him to do a lot of this in succession and with a canter between the obstacles. I haven't tried the L back though before and he did awful good on his first try. The "bull" took three tries (look out for the blooper reel), but ended great.
I just need to keep telling myself to slow down. He's a good boy ♡.
The most fabulous Working Equitation Practice corse!
Ha!
I feel like I'm 12 again making obstacles out of anything I could steal from the yard.
Bareback, bridleless and neck rope free on my Puck Duck. This is our 3rd session like this. Tomorrow we go back to being serious. Fingers crossed some of this enthusiasm carries over to dressage in the bigger arena :p.
Lots of things to fix, but this is the most solid and "soft" wtc Puck has offered to date. I feel like we really have good communication at the walk and trot. At the canter he did offer to soften to the bridle especially to the right. We switched bits yesterday to a simple curved snaffle and he seems a lot happier. Hopefully will ride in the big arena on Monday and act serious again. We will see what happens.
-Also added in the sidepass (which I need to shorten me reins and ask him to go straighter, but still pretty happy) and pivot over the pole and open and close the gate and a sliding stop :p. Enjoy.
Puck figuring out man made water obstacles lol. Its a littke sad when the wild Mustang needs to show the baby warmbloods it's okay ♡.
The end of the cross country course ♡.
Puck, honking the horn!
Yesterday I was able to trailer Puck to Secret Pride stables and work in their dressage arena and try out all the working equitation obstacles. We even got to ride in a water obstacle which he liked too much and promptly rolled, saddle, human and all. There was a lot to look at and he never spooked once or hesitated. Which was insane. He was very interested in the other humans riding their horses around. It was a great experience.
Today though, was the best ride to date. I have been having a hard time deciding if Puck is giving me attitude, in pain, tired, just lazy, not understanding what I'm asking etc. He gave me a what I was pretty confident was attitude yesterday when I first got on, so I worked him through it, and he did relax and "start connecting".
Today we rode with little knobby spurs which helped tremendously. It seemed like it just defined the blurriness of what my leg was asking. He never got sticky, or irritated and rode soft into the bridle almost the whole ride which hasn't happened to date.
And then it hit me. He does this with everything. Whenever you start somthing new, he starts out by making no attempt to respond, and then it's a false acceptance, then resistance, and then true acceptance. This happend with the halter, the saddle and even smaller things like sidepassing on the gound and lunging. He is incredibly good if you ask me, I currently trust him more then 3/4 of our horses around the kids, but I think comparatively he's actually really difficult when it comes to teaching him. I do feel much more confident about pushing him a bit more undersaddle. I have been flip floppy about that.
If there ever was a horse who looked forward to riding, Puck may be it. No halter required. ♡
Oh Puck!
"So much for a wild Mustang"
I think he will end up being a safer partner for the kids then our Cherry pony- who I have stollen for roman riding anyway.
He had a solid week off while I was working out of state. He was very excited when I got home and our first ride was enthusiastic! He got his second round of body work by Chloe and yesterday we focused on cantering. We are signed up for a local starter trial on the 14th! I plan to focus on the dressage test and do the stadium and cross country if he feels good.
