2024 ANNUAL SUMMARY NARRATIVE

2024 was a wild ride with 368 adoptions!!!! Our numbers were lower, but there were many Very Special Adoptions and of course lots of puppies. Most puppies go into foster care, but in 2024 we opened our new “puppy wing” in our annex next to kennel. So far we have had four puppy litters in our new wing – the Pokémon litter, Justice’s litter, the Shepsky’s and Sissy’s litter. We’re sorry we couldn’t include all the cute puppies in the video, but it would have made for a very long video!

We’ve included the breakdown between puppies, adults, seniors, and dogs adopted via our prison obedience program. We’ll let the video speak for itself, but want to say a few words about our very special long time dogs who finally found their forever home in 2024. Get out your hankies.

Tyson had been adopted and returned and languished at the kennel far too long without any interest. He needed a quiet home. We enrolled him in the North Central Obedience program to gain new skills and his handler just couldn’t let him go. After 650 total days of being a canine collective dog, he was adopted and is living in the country with his former handler watching the sunsets. Diamond spent 642 days in the care of Canine Collective, but her life changed when local dog trainer Mitch Christian (of Christian K9 Academy) offered to do a special “board and train” to get her more adoptable. What a difference! Her new family adores her and loves that she is so obedient! Bubba was a real heartbreaker. He was a star student at the North Central Obedience program several years ago and was quickly adopted. He lived the good life for 2 years until his owner passed away. He was returned to Canine Collective and spent an additional 18 months at CC. His big break came when he got a short term foster during our kennel painting who became his advocate. She saw the goodness in this strong dog, and we promoted him on social media. He is doing great in his new home after a total of 578 days at Canine Collective. Lola is our last featured dog. This shepherd mix had three failed adoptions, so we figured she really needed intensive training to be the best she could be. After a year in the North Central Obedience training program, she caught the attention of a previous CC adopter whose dog had passed away. Her previous dog’s name was also Lola and she was a shepherd mix!! It was meant to be. After 572 days in the care of CC, she is living in a home suited to her needs – quiet, no kids, no other dogs, and her mom’s undivided attention! We are indebted indeed to our trainers at the North Central Ohio Correctional Facility and at Christian K9.

Without their efforts, these long time dogs may not have had that chance at a new life. Please note that dogs that have gone through these intensive training program have a training logo included in the video.
Of course, not all our dogs take a long time to get adopted. Some just get lucky and find their homes quickly, sometimes even before spending one night at the kennel! Or they spend their time in a foster home. Whatever it takes to find good homes for our dogs. We want to thank all our adopters, fosters, volunteers, transporters, donors, rescue partners, vets and of course our dedicated staff Kayla and Ricky. It takes many caring people working together to bring the dogs to you and get them into homes.
