“In order to move LACTATING dairy cattle to fairs or exhibitions within the state, producers must receive a negative test for Influenza A virus at an approved National Animal Health Laboratory Network (NAHLN) laboratory with samples collected no more than 7 days prior to movement to the fair or exhibition. “

Please keep this in mind for the fair season coming up!

11.21.23

**ALERT** We want to make people aware that there have been 3 outbreaks of Mannheimia Haemolytica pneumonia in cattle (cows and calves) within the past several days in our practice area.

Mannheimia is a primary bacterial pneumonia. This bacteria has evolved over the last several years to be quite serious and has struck several of our farms. Often animals are found dead with no previous signs of illness.

The bacteria produces a toxin that does horrendous damage to the lung tissue in a very short period of time. By the time an animal is noted to be sick, they are nearing death. One producer lost 80 lactating cows when this went through their herd.

Therefore, prevention is key. One Shot is the name of the vaccine that prevents Mannheimia pneumonia. It can be given to calves over 6 weeks of age, as well as cows at any stage of pregnancy/lactation.

One Shot is a vaccine that we've come to believe should be included in all comprehensive vaccination programs. Speak to your veterinarian if your herd is not currently protected against Mannheimia pneumonia. Don't wait until it hits!

Best wishes for a Happy Thanksgiving!
