Just so you all know. Thomas has found his furever home. He has been adopted!!!

Thomas came into the care of This Is Houston on November 18, 2019.

His story went around the world. Since day 1, people criticized them and demanded they euthanize him, they had no faith in them, the vets, or in Thomas.

Since day 1, TIH teamed up with us, Wags 2 Wishes Animal Rescue to find him a home.

273 days later, he is FINALLY adopted ❤️ it feels like it took forever to find his humans, but we had to be sure to find the right ones!

Congratulations, Thomas! You deserve it, sweet boy!

Thomas is a one year old pit/hound mix who had a horrific start to his life. He was found on the streets of Houston Texas almost dead, emaciated and full of mange so bad we didn’t know if he would survive.

It has been months of recovery for him and he is READY to find his forever home!

The ideal forever home for Thomas would include the following:

✅A FULLY FENCED YARD

✅Thomas loves to be w his people and when left alone can be mischievous in the home, ideally a home where you work from home, alternate shifts or he wouldn’t be alone long is ideal.

✅ Thomas LOVES kids but because of his energy and “herding” tendencies a home with kids 8 years + is ideal.

✅ While Thomas has done well with the dogs in his current foster home he has NOT liked all the dogs he has met. Meets MUST be done w current dogs. Ideally a home with no more than 2 dogs is preferred so proper introductions can be done and Thomas can continue to get the attention he desires.

✅ABSOLUTELY NO CATS OR SMALL ANIMALS!!

✅Applicant MUST be committed to being patient while he adjusts to a new home/family and training.

✅Applicants should be willing to travel w family/pets to Plainfield, IL so a meet can be done. Virtual home visits can be done for out of state adopters BUT the initial meet you need to travel to us for.

✅Applicants should be dog Savy AND have impeccable vet references. He will need continued skin care visits on occasion.

✅ You MUST complete and Adoption Application on our website BEFORE a meet will be arranged. Meets will only be arranged with qualified applicants.

✅All the above requirements are non- negotiable, we know exactly what he needs and will make sure he gets that!

✅ALL family members that live in the home MUST be present at the initial meet.

I’m sorry for not posting lately but we’ve been very busy w the rescue, COVID 19 (kids are off school) and also we are the new owners of a Boarding & Daycare facility that we are completely remodeling.

Thomas is hanging out today at the construction site and having fun roaming around and playing!

Things are CRAZY in Illinois with Covid-19 and the Curfews that are being enforced. Foster Mom had to move all dogs out of the shelter ... it’s been crazy! 😜

She is saying this is gonna be the last post with pics for a while while they focus on keeping the shelter going, saving what animals they can save and focusing on opening her new business.

So I’m sending you all love and wanted to let you know I’m having a BLAST! 🐾

I have received several messages asking about Thomas both on post and via PM. The quick answer is he is FINE, doing well BUT not medically cleared for adoption - YET! We cannot allow a dog not cleared medically to be adopted. He is STILL receiving meds/treatment for skin issue.

As you know, I tried hard to update regularly and opened my life, home family to a very large audience. We even opened our facility to a “Meet Thomas Day”.

AGAIN, I ask for you to bare with me. Keep in mind I have a rescue facility that at any given time has 50+ animals to care for, rescue events, family events, family that include 2 children under 9 years old, school activities, and I am in the midst of opening a new business. My time is very limited.

My hope was to post a photo after a few weeks that showed more healing so you could see the difference. His skin issue sucks and we are told some areas of hair may never grow back.
BUT
When Thomas is available, The adoption process will be the same for him as any other dog in our care, completed application, vet check and personal reference check, home visit and all family members must be onboard and at the initial meet. We will not do an out of state adoption, so you will need to be within a reasonable driving distance from us in Plainfield/Joliet IL area.

Applications will be accepted on our website BUT we will not process or do meets until he is medically cleared. PLEASE only serious applicants apply here:

I just got a message that a follower of Thomas is concerned w how his skin looks and that he isn’t receiving the proper care here 🤦‍♀️

So I would like to remind you of a few things. Not only did he have mange that turned into infection a portion of him was also covered in MOLES which was a different type of infection, those moles don’t just go away quickly. However most of them are gone now and the new PINK skin is shinning through. Some areas of his body specifically his back is scarred - I don’t know that hair will ever grow there.

ALSO he was at our meet event where HUNDREDS of people showed up to meet him under FLORESCENT lighting which illuminated any flaw on him.

Here is a video close up this morning of his body... where it is good it’s amazing BUT yes some areas are still healing from the MOLES and again I can NOT perform a miracle on scars 🤷🏼‍♀️
