This video just shows how dang smart this mare is!
Iris came in with very little groundwork. Seeing the round pen a few times but never consistently.
I have spent such a long time developing my skills as a trainer and always hope to see this type of success.
This is after her being hosed off, just playing around. No lead, no halter, no lung whip or flag. Just pure body language and an incredible horse who loves to please.
It is always so rewarding for me as a trainer to see my client horses wanting to engage with me and the work I put infront of them.
Smooth, Soft, and Willing.
Everything you could want with these young ones. Very honored to be the one to start this mare.
Iris has been making such huge progress.
This mare is so special, she has been with me for almost 2 months and has only continued to impress anyone who lays a hand on her.
We have continued to do extensive ground work with her due to how sensitive she is. Iris is incredibly expressive through her face and is not afraid to show her feelings through her eye, ears, and even lips!
Under saddle work has been going slowly but super amazingly, too! First couple of rides were a bit confusing for her and not having the confidence to move forward.
We have been steadily breaking through that wall and today she finally allowed herself to relax. Such a HUGE win for this girl 🫶🏼
Horses with playful personalities are the best! 🫶🏼
Buddy has been fun to play with this last week.
Due to some previous health issues; Buddy has picked up some bad habits that needs refreshing.
Lately he’s shown nothing but eagerness and a will to please. Still a bit off about the saddle but we are steadily making progress in the right direction!
Coco
This mare is just as I remembered her! Safe, fun, and just reliable.
Coco isn’t in for any heavy duty training; just to lose some weight and get some muscle back!
It’s always fun to hop on her after a long day and just know it’s going to be a fun relaxing ride.
Soft, supple, and willing.
Blessed is an understatement. I absolutely love what I do! 🫶🏼
Iris ✨
Tonight we had a lovely time working on getting comfortable with weird weight in the stirrups!
Teeny tiny hiccups when it comes to stepping down but this mare does nothing but impress and improve!
Iris has been a farm favorite with her willing attitude, expressive face/ears, and her extremely funny personality.
I cannot be more proud of this mare. Tomorrow is looking like a perfect day for a first ride/sit! So thankful for owners who are present and willing to create such nice horses!
This 5yo mare just gives her all. ❤️
A bit of a longer video, but worth the watch.
I’ve made a post about it before and i’ll do it again.
STOP tip toeing around your young ones like they’re going to put you 6ft under!
If you want an oversized child who is going to jump on you when a shadow looks at them the wrong way - sure; do everything for them.
This mare - who is 5 came with minimal if not ZERO ground work. This is her first time ever being saddled.
She’s been with me for 2 weeks. Yes, some of it is her brain but half of it is my lack of care. I don’t care about what’s going on, why should she?
I’m in no way fearless; I do get scared. But that’s part of the respect in the sport. I respect fear and it’s helpful in some situations.
Treat your young ones boundaries and respect while keeping your own composure. That’s how you make a solid citizen who will have the confidence to not shy away from the “scary” things.
Journey ⭐️
Journey is such a pretty mare!
Tons of improvements happening on her end and she is setting herself up for a successful first ride next week!
Most people enjoy time in the saddle compared to on the ground but i’m actually the opposite.
I rather spend my time on the ground teaching a colt a solid foundation compared to riding a finished horse, any day!
Time in the saddle is always necessary and so much fun, but that foundation building can be so much more rewarding. 💅🏽
Disengage the hind end✅
Woah✅
Back up✅
Seriously, does it get any better than this?
First real ride ✅ The best first rides are boring first rides. This guy took 2 riders in one night as his first ride to unlock those feet and feel confident to move on his own. I said this horse was special sense the day I met him.
These two golden nuggets. Two 2yos, one with 60 rides and one about to take his first rider. Blessed to live this life.
Some exciting stuff happened tonight. Both of these babies are going to go places.
The first big obvious is Turbo (in the back) is having his first proper ride. Multiple people have swung a leg over this horse and have sat on him and hung out as well as being led but I have recently found out prior to tonight that he struggles to move forward without ground help. Tonight we overcame that obstacle and showed the little guy it’s okay to move your feet on your own.
He did such an amazing job and didn’t blink an eye, his owner set him up for such success and I have absolutely no doubt he will excel in his chosen career.
The second thing I would like to mention is I had to think outside of my normal training tools and really dig deep to see how I can help this guy unlock his feet. I no longer have a finished horse so I had to take a chance on the 2yo without even 60 rides to pony this guy and help him understand the riding life is okay - he did nothing but impress me, I am so so proud of these two animals.
As a trainer just exposing myself to the public, the idea of just having a “lucky run” is always in the back of my mind. Wryn was so easy and I started him ground up. I am thankful for Turbo to show I do have the qualifications and knowledge to also help him succeed.
Well yet again, take 2 was just as boring as the first 🥲 Apparently we have done too well with all 3 babies, we were expecting to see at least one trot. Nope, they just weren’t here for it 🤣
I had the best time today being able to educate the wonderful owners of Spartan and Wildfire!
These guys have only shown positive improvements. They both struggle with being overly pushy and not respecting boundaries. Respect and space is not something I will ever comply with. I expect all my animals, clients or not to respect my boundaries and my space. Spartan has come very very far with only being here a week, I so wish I had before video!
I tend to find myself reminding people that while yes, respect and boundaries are expected; it should always be something we’re working on almost as if it’s second nature. As if we’re not aware of it. These horses have their days, as do we - so I will not hold that against them.
I’m super excited to see both Wildfires and Spartans continued progress. I absolutely adore having owners who want it as bad as I do!
Oops… woke the baby up. All the horses are absolutely loving the dry stalls tonight.
This weather crap needs to stop! ☔️🌧️
Well, besides us looking like goons and being so very off beat; the coming 3yo decided he had MUCH better things to do rather than involve himself in TikTok trends 🤣
These two are absolute fools together 🤣
We call these affectionate boys the “twins” or the “golden boys”. They’re always causing trouble together and just being the cutest babies alive!
Merry Christmas everyone and have a fabulous New Year, from everyone at RLPH. 🎄❤️
Happy National Horse Day!
Featuring the funniest video of Wrynly refusing to give the hit back after a short ride - this guy just WANTS to work! Nothing better then a fun horse.
