Happy National Take Your Cat to the Vet Day!

Bringing your feline friend to the vet can be a very stressful experience for both you and your cat, but it doesn’t have to be. Here are some tips to make the trip to the vet that much easier.

🐈 Carrier matters! Choose a plastic carrier with a top loading door or a drawer type. This makes it so you do not need to force them into the front door. Cover the carrier with a towel or blanket to minimize visual stimuli.

🐈 Leave the carrier out at all times, no just when it’s time for the vet. This lets your cat acclimate to the carrier and not see it just something scary that takes them to the vet. If that is not an option then take it out a few days before the visit so your cat can explore the carrier.

🐈 Use pheromones like Feliway to help your cat remain calm. Also adding a familiar blanket or toy to the carrier can help your cat feel more at ease.

🐈 Don’t be afraid to ask your vet for anti anxiety for visits. Some cats can benefit from this not only for the trip to the vet but for the exam as well.

If you have any other questions of how to make your visits to the vet less stressful for you and your cat, call the clinic today! One of our staff members would be more than happy to assist you.

We will be undergoing renovation by having a new floor installed. This is going to benefit both the staff and the pets that we see, so we are very excited!
This project will temporarily impact our appointment schedule and diagnostic capabilities.
We will be closed January 4th, January 5th, and January 6th.
During these times if your pet is experiencing a medical emergency, we recommend seeking care at VCA Aurora or Veterinary Emergency Group in Naperville.
We want to thank you for your understanding and patience during this time.

As a reminder we will be closed Christmas Day and New Years Day.

As of lately, the media has been reporting that there is a new severe respiratory disease affecting dogs. ISVMA (Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association) has reported there are no confirmed cases of the atypical respiratory disease in Illinois as of today.
We will provide additional information as it becomes available from reputable sources.

In the time being:
• Isolate your pet if they develop a cough without a known medical explanation. If your dog is coughing, they should not be in contact with other dogs. Avoid boarding facilities, doggy daycare, training, grooming, and dog parks.
• Contact us if your dog develops a cough and monitor for progressive signs such as loss of appetite, lethargy, depression, weakness, or nasal discharge.
• Vaccinate your dog for all respiratory diseases. Eliminating or reducing certain known infectious respiratory pathogens such as Distemper, Bordetella, and Canine Influenza may provide protection against complicated disease.
• Restrict your pet from sharing toys and public drinking bowls.

ISVMA stated “There is detailed information coming from the states of Oregon and Colorado. In addition, illness has been reported, either officially or anecdotally, in California, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Washington.”

Feel free to contact us at 815-267-6138 with any additional questions or concerns.

Not only are we celebrating our 10 year anniversary this week, but we are able to say with the utmost pride that we passed our AAHA evaluation again!

For those who don't know, AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association) is an organization that sets standards by experts in the field. An "accreditation signifies that your veterinary practice has met or exceeded stringent quality standards that encompass all aspects of veterinary medicine, from pain management to medical record-keeping, and has committed to a path of continuous improvement."
We are so proud of this achievement and strive to provide your pets with the best care possible.
Thank you again to all of our clients who have supported us any time throughout the last 10 years.
