As we wrap-up showcasing our Veterinary Technicians, it's important to acknowledge our Veterinary Assistants as well. Our VAs, Becca and Jenny, work alongside the DVMs and CVTs and can perform some of the same duties as CVTs including taking thorough histories, obtaining patient vital signs, and filling prescriptions. Amongst those duties, Assistants also document their histories in the medical records, take radiographs, and help answer your questions, schedule appointments, etc. by answering the phones.
Becca and Jenny are large assets to our team!
P.S. Becca is a current student at JJC, working towards her degree in Veterinary Medical Technology.
FUN FACT: All of our CVTs are JJC graduates!

To help celebrate Veterinary Technician Week, we continue featuring our amazing Techs!
Shari is our lead Certified Veterinary Technician.
Shari wears many hats. She works closely with the doctors and practice manager to create and implement protocols for the betterment of the practice, she is in charge of training new employees, and plays a vital role in surgery, specifically with Dr. Marion’s orthopedic cases.
Here, she is performing a dental nerve block prior to a tooth extraction.
Veterinary technicians play a major role as advocates of dental health. Often they are involved in the initial oral examination and aware of existing problems such as severe periodontal disease, tooth mobility, furcation exposure, fractured teeth, missing teeth, oral masses, or other treatable issues. Therefore, technicians can provide key information needed by the veterinarian to devise a treatment strategy.
Under the supervision of the veterinarian, technicians can expedite the administration of appropriate regional anesthetics. Thorough knowledge of cranial anatomy and foramina is required.
Dental nerve block in dogs and cats are an essential component of a high-quality dentistry service in small-animal practice. Nerve blocks in dogs and cats not only provide excellent postoperative analgesia but also contribute extensively to maximizing the safety of the anesthetic event.
Everyone help us in wishing Shari a Happy Veterinary Technican Week!

To help celebrate Veterinary Technician Week, we continue featuring our amazing Techs!
Arielle is our newest Certified Veterinary Technician.
Arielle is performing a jugular venipuncture (blood draw). While it may look scary, the jugular is preferred for obtaining blood. It is non painful and an easily accessible vein.
Our CVT’s obtain numerous blood samples per day. We run 90% of our blood work in house, including full CBC/chemistry panels (assess organ status) to preventative heartworm and tick screens.
Everyone help us in wishing Arielle a Happy Veterinary Technican Week!

To help celebrate Veterinary Technician Week, we are featuring our amazing Techs!
Katrina is a Certified Veterinary Technician who currently spends a large portion of her time working in surgery with Dr. Marion. Shown here, she is serving as the anesthetist and is monitoring a pet who is under anesthesia. Not only does she rely on the monitors to assess the patient's heart rate, electrocardiogram (ECG/EKG), percentage of oxygen in the blood (SPO2), end tidal carbon dioxide/exhaled carbon dioxide (ETCO2), body temperature, and blood pressure (BP), she relies on the most important monitor of all which is herself! Our monitors are very helpful in determining all of the vital signs listed above, but the technician's trained eyes and ears will pick up on subtle signs that influence how much or how little anesthestic is needed to keep the patient safely anesthetized. Katrina is also going to know if there is any possible problem occurring before the monitor will pick up on it. This is why we find it so crucial to have well-educated and well-trained CVTs involved with your pets' procedures!
Everyone help us in wishing Katrina a Happy Veterinary Technican Week!

To help celebrate Veterinary Technician Week, we are featuring our amazing Techs!
Hannah is another one of our Certified Veterinary Technicians on staff. Here, she is obtaining a urine sample on a cat by performing a cystocentesis. She then places the sample into one of the laboratory machines which provides a portion of the urinalysis. Finally, she uses the refractometer to determine the specific gravity of the urine sample and will document the results in the patient's record. Obtaining blood and urine samples, performing laboratory testing, and record keeping are a few other integral parts of a Veterinary Technician's job.
Everyone help us in wishing Hannah a Happy Veterinary Technican Week!

To help celebrate Veterinary Technician Week, we are featuring our amazing Techs!
Megan is one of six Certified Veterinary Technicians on staff. Here, she is assisting Dr. Schifo in suturing an incision. Technicians cannot perform surgery, but they are often needed to scrub in and assist the doctors in some procedures by passing sterile instruments, helping irrigate/flush, amongst others.
Everyone help us in wishing Megan a Happy Veterinary Technican Week!
