Zeke encountered horses today, and surprisingly he was only slightly reactive! No lunging, only that piercing husky whine, so a big improvement!

Zeke has been with us for a couple years now and we have come so far! No more resource guarding, he knows his manners, and recall is awesome! Unfortunately our biggest problem is still territorial marking. This is a learned behavior and it is so strong in him. So while I dont have a way to " fix it" , I do have options for managing the problem... he is only allowed to free roam the house with his belly band on... ( like a washable diaper for Male dogs) on walks I reinforce the no marking. Not every solution looks the same, We found what works for us !

training isn't just for the dogs...we have been teaching Chase the Hamster to come when his name is called, go through tunnels and walk around on his hind legs!

Zeke has come a long way over 9 months! When he first came to our home, he wanted to bite my hand over a snow ball, growled at me if i moved his food dish, and thought nipping at hands was a good time lol After a lot of training and consistency, my 4 year old and Zeke are the best of friends, no more nipping, no more resource gaurding!

well, Zekes new thing is to bark at us while we walk around the yard. Any time we are not right near him he barks...not a fun prelude to our summer. So, EVERY time he does, i walk back to him and put him in the house.. The goal is for him to associate having to go into the house if he barks at us...and when he doesn't bark, he gets to stay outside and hang out with us...Hoping he is a quick learner, because most days are spent hanging out in the yard...

Its amazing what dogs pick up from each other...Flo lifts her foot up before every meal...and after only 4 months with us, Zeke just started holding his foot up before his meals lol

All natural dog treats!! 1 can pumpkin, 1 egg, 1/2 C cooked quinoa, handful of dried beets broken into pieces, oregano, rosemary, flax seed, turmeric. Mix together, spread on greased baking sheet until cooked and dry on edges. Tear/cut into pieces.

Loose leash walking is a work in progress! Every time i walk Flo after taking Zeke out, I am reminded of how she was just 5 years ago..pulling on the leash with no control...and now she is a dream to walk out and about!

High Value Rewards are things your dog really wants and will work the hardest for. Zeke has a really strong prey drive, so playing fetch is a high value reward, Flo on the other hand, does not have a strong prey drive, and she will just look at you when you try to get her excited about a toy. She is completely food motivated! Every dog is different, find out what your dog values the most to make training a breeze

The Matingale Collar! This is a miracle for the dog who loves to pull you around. I've tried both, and the red one without the chain is terrible, it doesn't slide quickly like it should and gets caught up, do not bother with this version...the black one with the chain is amazing! These collars hang loose around your dogs neck, but when they pull, it tightens, and the INSTANT they stop pulling the collar loosens, getting the message to the dog fast that pulling is not good. Similar to the Choke collar, without the choking...it will never get tighter than your dogs neck ( when sized correctly) paired with training, this collar has gotten all of our Dogs to walk with a loose leash.. Zeke is making progress in only 20 days!

Zeke is working hard on the " Drop it" command! He is mixed with Australian Cattle dog so it is extra important to work on gentle mouth habits and the "drop it" command because Cattle dogs were bred to bite, not just nip, the cows! So we are working against genetics here, but with consistency, anything is possible. He already drops it 80% of the time when asked once!
