Meet Harley. Harley was diagnosed with stage 5 lymphoma. She sought out Dr. Shawn after her previous veterinarian quoted her over $10k for treatment. A new patient came in not feeling well with a large swelling on her shoulder. Dr. Shawn aspirated the mass and looked at the discharge under his microscope which showed it was an abscess from a cat bite. Treatment involved holistic sedation and making a small puncture to evacuate the contents of the abscess. It was then cleaned with an antimicrobial solution. The cat has made a full recovery. Abscesses commonly result from cat bites due to inoculation with Pasteurella bacteria. They can cause severe illness and even death in 1-2 days if not treated properly. If you or any family member has a cat bite, wash it thoroughly and consult with your doctor. If your cat or dog is bitten by a cat it should be seen as soon as possible by your veterinarian. 🐈⬛ 💉
