I was about 8 months old when I was picked up as a stray in a Texas county and taken to the county animal shelter. Even though it was pretty new, it was scary. They only have room for about 34 dogs, and they cover an area that is about 930 square miles. When they get overcrowded, they have no option except to kill dogs to make room. Some call it “putting them to sleep” but sleep has nothing to do

with it. Unfortunately, being a country area, many people don’t get their dogs spayed and neutered. They give excuses like “I don’t want to spend the money”, “the kids want to have a litter of puppies”, or “he won’t hunt as good if I get him fixed”. What happens is that people end up with unwanted litters they can’t give away, and they dump them on the side of the road or they dump them at the kill shelter. Sometimes, people “just can’t afford the dog” and they dump them at the kill shelter. And, sometimes, an elderly person dies and the relatives who inherit everything just want the stuff, so after the funeral, they take all the stuff and dump the dog at the kill shelter. Yes, some people are really like that. Anyway, one day, I was number one on what they call the EU list. Trust me, it is not a list you want to be number one on. Since it was a holiday the following Monday, they had set a deadline on Friday of 2:30. At 2:30, they were going to start killing dogs and I was first up. About 2:00, I was literally minutes away from going to that room no dog wants to go to. A lady came and got me and said a rescue group from out of state had tagged me for rescue and a someone had agreed to foster me for three weeks until their transport headed north. The lady took me to a boarding place to spend the night and another nice lady came and got me the next morning. She took me to the vet and got my rabies shot and took me to a man and woman who took me home and gave me a bath because I stunk! I slept in their hall floor until the afternoon when another man showed up and took me to his house to stay for the three weeks. I was terrified by now because I had been in that shelter for three weeks, had been so close to “going to sleep” and had been through so many hands in the last 24 hours that when we got to his house, I laid on a blanket and barely moved. In fact, he had to carry me everywhere for the first two days. But he was nice to me and fed me good food and talked softly to me and petted me. After a few days, I liked it at his house. After two weeks, I decided I wanted to stay there and knew I had found that forever home that dogs talk about. The man talked to the rescue people and they agreed to let me stay. He took me to a wonderful vet and had me all checked over and got me medicine to make me healthy and pretty quickly I went from 26 pounds to 47 pounds, and I felt much better and got to lay on the couch and sleep on the bed and play in the yard. He doesn’t know what all I have been through in my short life and I can’t tell him, but he is really understanding and gentle with me. I didn’t ever tear up much stuff, but the few times I did, he never yelled at me. I sometimes feel like I hit the puppy lottery, as his friend says. Now, my new dad and I want to help other dogs like me who have someone willing to take them in and find them good loving homes like mine, they just have problems getting there. We travel in an RV and give rides to dogs from those high-kill shelters to places where they have no deadline. Because believe me, that is not the list you want to be number one on!

Well, it's been a minute. The past year or so have seen a few surgeries (me, not Shiloh), a few vehicle issues, and a few things in the "other" category. I bought the extended warranty on me now and new RV parts should make it in good shape, although RV3 may have some squirrel electrical damage we have to figure out, BUT we are working on getting rolling again. We cannot show gratitude enough for those of us who have stood by us in our downtime and are getting back to work.

We started this week by helping out our favorite Lab friends that pulled a few shelter dogs. Earlier in the week, Lori got them to the vet and their fosters and yesterday, I ran around the Dallas/Fort Worth area getting both of them picked up and delivered to a short notice transport headed to Denver ahead of a storm. Charlie and Harley arrived in Denver this morning and got to see snow (better them than me). Enjoy your new lives guys!

Eight years ago today, Shiloh was carried into my life. Carried because she was too terrified to walk. And, it took several months to move beyond having to carry her almost everywhere. Still quirky but no longer broken, she has been nothing but a blessing to have in my life and is loved by everyone. Who would have thought a throw-away pup could have brought so much joy to anyone, let alone so many. HAPPY 8TH GOTCHA DAY, SHILOH! You are all mine, like it or not, and I have never once regretted that decision to foster for three weeks (even though I think we passed the 3 week mark some time back).

On another note, I know I have said we will be back out soon, and I fully mean it. It is just that "soon" keeps moving the goalpost. Other than fat, I have been healthy my whole life. But I have been to more doctors that last 3 years than the previous 30, but I swear I don't have a doctor addiction. In the last 18 months, there have been 4 different surgeries and 1 concussion. But my surgeon two weeks ago said it was all just fine tuning, so we plan to be moving again as soon as I can carry more than 10 pounds. Moral: Don't get old! Thank you for your patience and understanding along with your continued support. Soon, Shiloh will have to quit being so lazy and get back to work!

Hello all. Sorry for the quiet, but we have been down for a couple of months after knee surgery, a wedding, a vacation, and the holidays but we hope everyone had a great Christmas and a fantastic start to 2023! We hope be on the road again starting sometime in February so stay tuned!

If you see merchandise posted for sale in the comments, please let me know the date of the post so I can delete it. I have been seeing them everywhere and wondered when they would hit us, there is no way to stop it on a public page, just delete and block one at a time. If we sell anything, it will be posted as a post, not listed in the comments section. I heard from one person that ordered a Dallas Cowboys t-shirt that they received a cheap shirt that was orange and brown...what the heck? (For our Wisconsin friends, that is an NFL team.... since y'all don't have football up there.) Anyway, do not buy from those ads please!

We were honored to be invited to participate in the Blessing of the Animals at First United Methodist Church Plano this afternoon. This year, we have had trip expenses and vehicle maintenance... we had to replace an RV roof as it was starting to leak, among some other minor things. Shiloh got to babysit overnight before puppies caught their flight!

Shiloh is Better!!!

Shiloh spent most of the day laying around napping. Then, this afternoon, she suddenly jumped up and started rubbing her back on the edge of the bed and jumping around. To be such a sick puppy late yesterday, I think she is feeling much better now!

Denver Bound!

Enjoy your flight puppies! I would love to transport that way, but there are two things holding me back. I don't have a plane, and I don't know how to fly!

People always ask, "How do you get all those dogs in your RV?". Well, here's how. That is 51, plus Shiloh, plus me.... so I guess you could say 53 dogs in all!

So, after spending the night in the blizzard, we dropped off Harper and Oz in Denver, where they thoroughly enjoyed the snow with Shiloh!

For the first time since Shiloh came into my home in May, I was able to take her for a walk on a leash. I am so happy and could not be more proud of her. I owe it all to Jami Miller at Best Paws-Abilities in Plano for making this happen. It is simply amazing!
