Meet Cheddar! 🧀 Our 18 pound, 9 month old, male, Brindle coated Chihuahua could be your new BFF.

Are you looking for a new best friend who will shower you with kisses and melt your heart daily? Then Cheddar is the dog for you. He is a sweet little pup with a big heart and an even bigger need for affection. This adorable bundle of joy thrives on cuddles, toys, and being carried like a little prince and being your shadow wherever you go.

Cheddar can be a little shy at first, but he warms up quickly with tail wags and gentle kisses. Having unfortunately spent some of his formative puppy months in animal shelters, we suggest some basic doggie training to help him adapt to a home environment. Cheddar loves his people and loves to be involved in whatever you are doing. Whether it is being curled up on the couch or out for a walk, Cheddar is happiest when he's by your side, soaking up every ounce of attention you’re willing to give.

🧡September's volunteer of the month is Robin Berry-Fincham!🧡

Robin has been with Second Chance SPCA for over 6 months now. She discovered our organization online, looking for the right charity to volunteer for, while out and around in Plano, Robin met 2 of our volunteers and dogs, and decided Second Chances was the right place!

Originally from Long Beach California, Robin married an Englishman 23 years ago and moved abroad. Her parents retired to Oklahoma 20 years ago and after Robin’s father passed away on Christmas Eve in 2023 it was time to move back to the states. Robin left her career as a mortgage advisor to return to the US and support her husband and her mom. Robin and her husband spend most weekends in Blanchard Oklahoma, unfortunately with no pets, but both were dedicated fosters for Westie Rehoming UK.

Helping dogs is very rewarding! For Robin, it's the little things. Giving an extra cuddle or a special treat. Letting the dogs trap you in the kennel, or escaping the leash. Building a connection with them, and being a part of the process that offers them a SECOND CHANCE at happiness.

“Luna - the Westie, a neglected, yet mischievous dog had been a foster with us. The perfect family, right across the street, offered her a forever home, we knew it was the right decision. I would always have our side gate, and our back patio doors open if I was working out in the front garden. Luna would frequently sneak past when I wasn’t looking! She would be making herself at home, looking for snacks, or curled up, sound asleep on our bed! It was a heartwarming testament to the bond we had formed, knowing that she felt so completely at home in our house, confident enough to treat it like an extension of her own. Her little escapes, far from being bothersome, became cherished moments, a furry reminder of the special place she held in our hearts and the unique way she viewed her two loving families. She was such a character and I loved her like she was my own!!!”

We truly could not run our shelter without our amazing and compassionate volunteers!

Looking for a smart, sweet, and oh-so-handsome companion? Meet Archie, a gentle and goofy giant with a big heart and an even bigger personality! This 70-pound Great Dane/Lab mix is as affectionate as he is intelligent — he already knows how to sit, lay down, and shake, and he’s always eager to learn more.

Archie LOVES to play, whether it’s romping around the yard or tossing toys in the air. He has great manners around the house and can be a total cuddle bug, but he’s also perfectly content hanging out in his own bed if you need some space.

Archie is still learning how to be his best self around other dogs. He’s participated in playgroups and is making great progress, but he’ll thrive with a patient, committed adopter who can help him continue working on his reactivity with positive guidance.

Remember Zipper? Since coming home, he has settled in so well and quickly made himself part of the family!

Zipper absolutely loves his backyard, where he keeps a close eye on the neighbors and races joyfully along the fence line with the neighbor’s dog. Walks are one of his favorite adventures, and after playtime, he happily rotates between his multiple cozy beds for lounging! Pictures as proof! 😆

He has had no behavioral issues at all—just a big, happy heart ready for love and fun. As an only-pet, he soaks up all the attention but also thrives on social interactions. He has play dates with a friend’s dog, and they adore each other. His new family is also exploring facilities that offer play days to keep him social and active!

Zipper eats well, plays hard, and rests easy. Most of all, he has filled our home with joy and laughter. We are so grateful for his new home and family! 🥰
