Lucky Boy
Thank you everyone for all the pictures and kind words from previous rescues that remind us why we do what we do.
Just a couple of hours after this wonderful video Lucky suddenly took a drastic turn for the worse. I got a call from his amazing foster Mom Kristine that he was drooling, shaking and his heart racing, and possibly having a seizure. He wobbled when tried to stand and walk. She rushed him from Hawthorne Florida to the University of Florida Small Animal Emergency clinic in Gainesville where he was evaluated, tested, and continued to have seizures. His glycemic level was at 26 even with the IV's. Doctor Vasquez believed that Lucky had a pituitary tumor, or cancer and that even if we could pull him through tonight and do MRI and/or other scans to confirm that diagnosis his quality of life would never be the same again. Surgery for this condition at any time is iffy, and that after 2 long surgeries in the last two months that his heart and body would not be able to handle another one. Human euthanasia was recommended. Kristine and I discussed things and she assured me she would be with him whatever I decided. I made the difficult decision to let our boy go, free him from pain. Dr Vasquez and Angel of UFL were compassionate and patient with all my calls and questions. Kristine and her husband Shane stayed with Lucky till the end, he knew he was loved, and not alone.
Foster Mom Kristine had this to say...
It was very peaceful. He just drifted off I think he finally got to know love from both of our families.
He will be very missed. He taught me to slow down and to be more gentle with my loved ones. I am forever grateful and there will always be a place in my heart for him. I knew he was special the moment I met him at doxi-a-palooza. Thank you for the honor of being his foster mom, even if it was just for a short time.
Lucky got to enjoy steak, a little chopped up asparagus, some rice and some wet doggie food today. We also enjoyed a sunset

Just in time for summer, get yourself Kai! 🚗 This l'il beauty comes fully equipped with a sweetheart personality, though her engine (head) has a benign twitch and part of her rear wiper (tail) is missing. 😆 😂
Kai is 9y old mini doxie weighing only 8lb. She adores everyone she meets. She would prefer a home where she can be the only pet. As a dog who had some difficult experiences in the past, Kia is a bit shy at first, but once she gets to know you, she's a real sweetheart. She's worth the wait. Always up for an adventure and isn't phased by trying new things. If you have an application on file, let us know or apply: https://doxierescue.wixsite.com/dsfh/adoption
Hello there. I'm Izzy 14 year old mini dachshund who is needing a new home. I have a few years on me, but that just makes me more interesting! You will hear my little feet running around because I may be little older but I have the energy of a young pup. I love to run in and out of the house so I don't miss anything. I make sure nothing happens without my permission. And let's talk about food?! Before you place the bowl on the table, I will be there.
You can't possibly find a cutter lady then me, so apply here:

Tanner our black and tan 5 year old boy is ready for his new home! If you have an application on file please let us know. If you don't have one you will need to apply. A sweet and smart boy who does have some separation anxiety. The best home would be with a family where someone is home most of the time. He is good with other dogs. Not sure with cats and we would prefer no small children.

Are you looking for the ultimate velco dog? Meet Vienna, 14lb and 7y old doxie who's as sweet as they come. Her friendly nature makes her a hit with everyone she meets. Gentle and mellow, Vienna has a way of making you feel relaxed and at ease, always ready to make you smile. Vienna loves sitting in a lap, being bed buddies with you, and generally being right underfoot! Literally all the time! 😅 She was the only dog but doing well around all the pups at the rescue. Vienna is not a fan of small children and that's was a reason for her rehoming. She needs a home when the owner is home more than gone, she is hyper-attached to her owners and gets stressed when left alone. Vienna is fully vetted, dental done and ready for her new home.
Adopt Vienna and bring home a bundle of joy that will fill your life with love, laughter, and endless fun.
The girls are improving daily! At this time we have enough applications for all 7 at this time, and as they become ready, they will be heading to their forever homes.
Another typical evening at DSFHR. The girls are calming down, Kiki is getting downright sassy. 😆
