Christmas is a season filled with love, happiness, and the joy of giving. As the year draws to an end, it brings the magic of Christmas to our family, hearts, and homes.

It is a time to gather with our doxies, our family and our friends, share meals and laughter, stories of the past, exchange gifts, and embrace the bonds we hold dear. The atmosphere feels different somehow... Christmas — lighter, brighter, and full of hope and love.

This holiday is about more than just decorations and presents. It reminds us of kindness, generosity, and the important things in our life. For me, you are all a part of that importance. A special Thanks to all our followers, donors, volunteers, admins, transporters and all who help make Dachshunds Seeking Forever Home Rescue what it is today.

Be Safe, remember to hug your fur kids, and enjoy this Holiday Season.

Merry Christmas from Michael Ellington and Tia Bednarczyk

Thank you everyone for all the pictures and kind words from previous rescues that remind us why we do what we do.

Just a couple of hours after this wonderful video Lucky suddenly took a drastic turn for the worse. I got a call from his amazing foster Mom Kristine that he was drooling, shaking and his heart racing, and possibly having a seizure. He wobbled when tried to stand and walk. She rushed him from Hawthorne Florida to the University of Florida Small Animal Emergency clinic in Gainesville where he was evaluated, tested, and continued to have seizures. His glycemic level was at 26 even with the IV's. Doctor Vasquez believed that Lucky had a pituitary tumor, or cancer and that even if we could pull him through tonight and do MRI and/or other scans to confirm that diagnosis his quality of life would never be the same again. Surgery for this condition at any time is iffy, and that after 2 long surgeries in the last two months that his heart and body would not be able to handle another one. Human euthanasia was recommended. Kristine and I discussed things and she assured me she would be with him whatever I decided. I made the difficult decision to let our boy go, free him from pain. Dr Vasquez and Angel of UFL were compassionate and patient with all my calls and questions. Kristine and her husband Shane stayed with Lucky till the end, he knew he was loved, and not alone.

Foster Mom Kristine had this to say...

It was very peaceful. He just drifted off I think he finally got to know love from both of our families.
He will be very missed. He taught me to slow down and to be more gentle with my loved ones. I am forever grateful and there will always be a place in my heart for him. I knew he was special the moment I met him at doxi-a-palooza. Thank you for the honor of being his foster mom, even if it was just for a short time.
Lucky got to enjoy steak, a little chopped up asparagus, some rice and some wet doggie food today. We also enjoyed a sunset carriage ride a half hour before in the crisp air and a nice warm crackling fire during the day. It was a good day. I was smiling so hard when I took that video of him because my heart was so happy that he was happy.

Rest easy sweet boy and we will see you in heaven someday....

Thank you Kristine and Shane for being there when I could not. Thank you to the DSFHR family for all for your love, support, and donations for Lucky's care. We all, and especially Lucky, fought hard for his recovery and to give him his best chance at a healthy, happy life.
Lucky was the sweetest, gentlest, happy soul we have had the privilege to care for. His loss will forever leave a hole in my heart. Fly high Lucky Boy, until we meet again... XOXO from Mama Tia, and Daddy Mike we love you.

I often tell my adopters that I love seeing pictures of happy, healthy pups in their forever homes because not all days are good in rescue. Today, it was a very bad day in rescue..made all the worse by being so far away.

Adopted 🐾
We have some exciting news to share: Winston has been adopted and is thriving in his new home🖤 He's enjoying playtime with his new fur brother Henry and has become quite the snuggle bug. After initially sleeping in a crate, he now sleeps in the big bed 🛌 with his new family and loves it. His favorite pastime is playing with squeaky toys, which he takes to the couch to play with his new mom❣️

Update from Lucky's foster Mom:

Mr. Lucky Update:

He’s doing really well. Comfortable, relaxed, eating & drinking, and going potty just fine. I feel like he has a little more pep in his step. He adores my husband of course because he’s always carrying him and stoking him. He likes to take a little walk with us in the field in the evening. His ears have cleared up. He does have a little eye goop in the mornings. We have been making sure his staple wound stays clean. He sleeps on his doggie bed with a blanket right next to the night stand on the floor when I’m in the guest bed and when my husband is home he sleeps in bed with him! We can’t wait to spin him for Christmas! A few pics from today….

Saving one Dachshund at a time!

We are a small, home based (my own home, and one in Illinois) rescue where our mission is to find suitable homes for stray, abandoned, and owner surrendered dachshund and dachshund mixes. This is done after getting them their age appropriate shots, deworming, testing and treating as needed for heart worm, fleas and ticks. We spay or neutering them and provide dental as needed. In Florida, I currently work with Hillsborough, Lake, Polk, Orange, and Pasco counties to take in Medical or behavioral “needs” doxies and provide all care and socialization needed to re home them.
