Hey pet parents, did you know that more pets go missing on the 4th of July than any other time of year? With all the loud noises and bright lights, it's no surprise that some of our furry friends can feel overwhelmed. But don't worry, we've got some tips to keep your pet safe and happy this upcoming Independence Day!
First, ensure that your pets are microchipped and their information is up to date. Check that their tags are also current, with your name and phone number. If your pet does get away, you want whoever finds them to be able to contact you as soon as possible.
Second, take your dog for a nice long walk, or have a play session with your cat. A little extra love and attention may help your pet stay calm or even sleep right through the noise!
Third, make sure your pet has a safe and quiet place to retreat to during the festivities. This could be a room in your house or a cozy crate with their favorite toys and blankets. Consider turning on the TV or radio to help muffle the sudden sound of fireworks, and cover the windows. This will help them feel secure and reduce their anxiety.
Fourth, keep your pet indoors during the fireworks. Even if they are used to being outside, the loud noises and lights can be overwhelming for them. It's best to keep them inside where they are safe.
And lastly, if you think your pet may need a little extra help staying calm, don't hesitate to call your vet. They can provide you with tips and even prescribe medication if necessary. Remember, it's always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to our furry family members. Do not wait until July 3rd to talk to your vet.
Let's make sure our pets have a happy and stress-free 4th of July! Share these tips with your fellow pet parents and let's keep our fur babies safe.
