Poor Tonks, with her naked neck! 🤣 The fall molt makes the chickens look scraggly for a while, egg production drops as their bodies put energy into growing new feathers, and the run looks like a feather pillow fight got out of control.

We have some professional help on the farm today, but also some purr-fessional help, apparently. 🤣 Eowyn decided to supervise me as I was trying to cut w**d mat for the veggie rows. She’s a demanding boss.

Zebulon is a handsome rooster when he isn’t being a jerk. The are finding the bugs around the base of the pine trees as I pull back the overgrown grass. Get ‘em, girls!

🎶 Volume up for singing cicadas and my rooster crowing. Gorgeous Florida “false fall” day, so I dressed up the caladium beds with fresh mulch, and am enjoying a break on the yard swing. Life is good.

So glad to see our sandhill cranes back, but they were not pleased with the empty bird feeder! I went to the garage to refill, turned around, and discovered that they had followed me! Glad they are friendly. 🤣

Found a tiny bird’s nest while picking grapes this morning! Hope our vineyard provided safe habitat for the babies. We have fresh muscadines available for a few more days, so place an order before they are gone! $3/quart.

Guess what time it is???? TIME TO PLANT! Thanks to Ritchey's Tractor Works for sending out Cody, who tilled our soil into fluff! We have been using “no till” for a few years, but some sections got away from us during hurricane recovery and got very compacted. This was the easiest way to get us back on track. I’ll be breaking out the wheel plow and seeds tomorrow!

Going bananas over this bunch! Our banana plants took a beating over the past two hurricane seasons, with major crop losses. Fortunately, the younger plants were protected by the older ones that fell, so we have a bumper crop coming! This first batch will wind up in my tummy and banana bread for the farm stand. Stay tuned for availability. 🍌 😁

It’s muscadine season on the farm! The early varieties are best for making jelly, but the fresh eating, super sweet varieties aren’t far behind. Stay tuned for farm stand opening date!

If these fig trees could tell stories, they would tell of my grandmother lovingly tending them, family gatherings to harvest, and the sweet aroma of preserves bubbling on the stove. We have transplanted several to our southern homestead, but none produce fruit as sweet as these. Worth the drive to harvest!
