Never a dull moment on our little farm. This racing pigeon decided to take a break with us. We saw it yesterday, but it is back today and clearly not itself. Canā€™t get close enough to properly read the entire band, but it is part of the American Racing Pigeon Union. Apparently they will rest, eat, hydrate, then be back on their way. Fascinating!

Our sweet corn surprisingly recovered after being flattened by 2 hurricanes, but it has been more susceptible to pests. I gave this cicada killer plenty of room to do its thing! I know itā€™s helping minimize the bugs, but I have no interest in being popped by it. šŸ˜¬

Our favorite sandhill cranes showed up to an empty bird feeder, and when I approached to refill, the male decided to do a dance to protect his partner, jumping and stretching his wings. Even as they eat from the feeder, they take turns, one standing guard over the other. ā¤ļø

Happy Monday! Surprise delivery of wood chips from is a great way to start the week. Winter garden planting is in full swing after we lost most of the fall to hurricane cleanup, so this chip delivery is perfect timing, like a that itā€™s never too late to start anew.

Moved a heavy piece of furniture today, and found this blast from the past! Our 23 year old asked if she could still get paid a quarter for peeling it. šŸ¤£ So grateful to be in our forever home on our little farm after years of military moves.

The baby have some new ! They had outgrown the garage brooder, but are weeks away from being able to integrate with the main flock. This mini chicken coop keeps them safe, is next to the main chicken run, and can be slid to fresh grass every few days. Bonus: no more p**p in the garage!

After disassembling and cleaning the carburetor to get the cranky generator to crank, we are back up with some basic operations. This one was a doozy, but running water makes it much more bearable. Hope you are all well!
