💙MEET THE TEAM MONDAY💙

Next up in our series is our animal care manager, Aldo. A veterinarian in his native Cuba, Aldo has over 25 years of veterinary care experience. He is a 1987 graduate of the University of Havana, Cuba, and he holds a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine as well as technician certificates in laboratory science and animal reproduction. Since joining Central Broward Animal Hospital in 1999, his expertise has been invaluable to the hospital and he is now the animal care manager. When asked what he most likes about his work, Aldo says it is the feeling of gratitude he receives from pets he cares for.

Role in the practice: Kennel manager, nurse, jack of all trades.

Length of employment: 25 years!! It has been a very satisfying and fruitful 25 years, I consider this a great achievement.

Pets: Chantel, a 17 year old cat.

Go to driving soundtrack: Bette Midler or Mina Anna Mazzini or country/Mexican music of my time.

Hobbies: reading, traveling, good music.

Fun fact about myself: I believe in astrology. I was born in November which makes me a Scorpio and I have an eight-sense spirit, which always endowed me with ancestral magic by all my ancestors, that I can share but many times it is denied to me.

If I could be any breed (dog or cat) what would I be and why: I would like to be a bird or a whale so I can live far from humanity.

💙Meet the Team Monday💙

Now that our veterinary team has been introduced, we will start with our amazing support staff. First up is our longest standing employee, Genie. Genie has been with the CBAH family for 26 years!!! A Hawthorne, New York native, Genie is a graduate of the State University of New York at Genesco, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Education. Genie and her husband, Skip, have two grown children, Sara and Gavin. She does a lot of the behind the scenes work here and we couldn't function without her 🥰.

Role in the practice: Client Care Specialist

Length of employment: 26 years

Pets: 4 “grand-dogs” = 2 goldens Athena and Zeus, 1 Pittie Bane, and 1 Dachsund Brody

Go to driving soundtrack: Boys on the Side

Hobbies: Photography, space exploration, hockey (GO PANTHERS)

Fun fact about myself: I raised Arabian horses in New York.

If I could be any breed (dog or cat) what would I be and why: Chihuahua – I would be easy to sneak along on vacation.

Last but not least on our veterinarian team is Dr. Lara Oms. Dr Oms is originally from Puerto Rico. Her love of animals shows in the care she gives. Dr Oms received her undergraduate degree from American University in Washington DC. She then did a year abroad studying marine biology and environmental sciences. She received her veterinary degree from University of Illinois.

Role in the practice: Associate veterinarian for 21 years

Pets: 3 cats -- “Lacey”, “Lily”, and “Blue” + a longhaired Chihuahua “Little Boy Josh”

Go to driving soundtrack: Latin rock

Hobbies: watching TV, going to the beach, dinner with family/friends, hanging out with her 13 year old daughter.

Fun fact about myself: I had no pets until my 3rd year in vet school. I used to not like cats and I was very afraid of them, now I can’t live without them.

If I could be any breed (dog or cat) what would I be and why: A tortoiseshell cat or a Chihuahua.

💙MEET THE TEAM TUESDAY💙

Next up in our “meet the team” weekly series is the wonderful Dr Megan Cassels-Conway.  Usually referred to as “Dr CC”.  She has been a part of the Central Broward family since 2019.  Dr CC studied animal bioscience and journalism at Penn State University, graduating in 2008 before getting her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Georgia in 2012.  Her passions in the field include surgery and ultrasonography.

Role in the practice: Veterinarian

Pets: a terrier mix – “Cortado” and a horse “Luck” (Lucky Fallen Star)

Favorite memory as a vet: Completing the sound ultrasound course or surgically creating a re**um for a kitten born without one

Go to driving soundtrack: Currently Sabrina Carpenter, or anything from the 2000’s, or anything that I can belt at the top of my lungs LOL

Hobbies: horseback riding, traveling, reading, weight lifting

Fun fact about myself: I showed and jumped horses growing up and have owned my horse for 25 years.

If I could be any breed (dog or cat) what would I be: Doberman – they are sleek, stylish, and regal.  They look tough but they are super sweet.

Next up in our “meet the team” weekly series is our amazing Dr Janeen Lezcano. She is our Senior Associate Veterinarian and has been with Central Broward since 2002! She is originally from Puerto Rico and attended University of Florida. Her passion for animals shows in her commitment to helping her patients and the practice.

Role in the practice: Senior Associate Veterinarian

Pets: 2 yorkie-poos -– Apple and Pie

Favorite memory as a vet: Getting the oppurtunity to work alongside my son.

Fun fact about myself: I married my high school sweetheart and we have been together for 30 years with 2 children.

💙MEET THE TEAM MONDAYS💙

The first person in our weekly series is our wonderful owner and boss, Dr Jonathan Wald. Dr Wald founded Central Broward Animal Hospital in 1987. His love of animals shows through the amazing hospital he has built. He opened the practice with the intention of people coming in knowing that their important family member would receive the best care available to keep them healthy.

Role in the practice: Founder, owner, and veterinarian

Pets: a Golden Retriever – Hudson and a Chihuahua – Peter Edward and 3 horses Beau, Teddy, and Fionn

Favorite memory as a vet: starting an animal hospital and putting a team together to help animals, which has always been my cause.

Go to driving soundtrack: anything classic rock

Hobbies: hiking, enjoying the outdoors, working on antique cars

Fun fact about myself: I used to be scared of dogs until my father got me a dog from the Humane Society when I was 5, and being an animal lover himself told me “You can’t go through life being afraid of dogs"

If I could be any breed (dog or cat) what would I be: That’s a tough one … owning a Chihuahua and a Golden Retriever I always say to myself “do I want to go through life being a Chihuahua where I’m always on guard and protecting everyone and supervising everything or do I want to be a Golden Retriever where I’m always happy and love everybody and everything?” I would choose Golden Retriever.
