Few pics of the heifers we will be offering tomorrow December 27 at Platte Livestock Market. 44 head of angus heifers A.I. bred to B Bar Black Mass 3045 (pictured at 8 years of age) due March 11. 18 head of F1 baldies bred to low birth weight bulls from HPR and Kemnitz Angus due March 25th to April 5th. Average weight on 2 trailer loads we tested was #1166. Ultrasounded 8/10/24 and confirmed pregnant 12/23/24 by Dr Tyler Grussing. Pre breeding shots this spring and 2 rounds of Scour Bos 9 as well as being poured with Cydectin 12/23/24. Year round Purina availa 4 mineral program. They are coming off cover crop and cornstalks. They are NOT "pen raised." Handled with horses, dogs, and cake broke to come to side by side. What truly sets these heifers apart is the country they were born and raised in, rough river break pastures that are high in selenium. These heifers will be very adaptability wherever they go. Their mothers are expected to graze the majority of the year and are given NO silage or distillers as part of the ration just hay and alfalfa. Any questions feel free to call or text 605-680-4259. This picture came from a customer a couple months back. Love their program....moderate, efficient, maternal cow crossed with a high growth terminal bull. Hidden Prairie Ranch will be offering 35 head of F1 baldy 2nd calvers, 75 A.I. bred F1 and angus bred heifers, and 50 natural bred heifers Tuesday, December 6 at Platte Livestock. They will begin calving in early March and have been sorted into calving windows based off ultrasound preg check. 2nd calvers were bred to Koupals B&B Apollo 9030 and his full brother Apollo 0015. Heifers were A.I. bred to Apollo 9030 and cleaned up with Redland Rainmaker 1218 (he live bred 63 out 75 heifers). We have always strived to produce maternal cattle that take care of themselves and we expect this set of females to be no different. These heifers are not "pen raised." They were bred out on grass and are expected to survive without a wagon full of silage driving by them everyday. If you would like any more info feel free to contact Mark 605-680-4259. Thanks.

Hidden Prairie Ranch is offering 14 young cows from the heart of our herd. Eleven coming 4 year olds and three coming 5 year olds. All cows are A.I. bred to Koupals B&B McCoy 0148 and are due to calve March 10th. Sires of these cows include Coleman Charlo, Bruin Torque, and Redland Paxton 843. To most of you this is just a video of some black cows standing in the snow, but for us it's much much more. It's a video of 265 employees working incredibly hard to make a living for themselves. Its cows with the ability to pull their own weight and dig through a foot of snow to find grass and feed for themselves. As ranchers putting big checks in our bank accounts has never been a problem, its writing lots of checks to pay for for expenses that makes ranching a financial battle to survive. When cattle work for us its money saved, its money that stays in our bank account. It gives us a chance to survive even on the tough years. Our goal at Hidden Prairie Ranch is to design cattle that can thrive on their own. We welcome you out to the ranch tomorrow January 25th at 3 PM to check out our program.

With all the challenges the weather has brought this year it's sometimes easy to forget about all the blessings its brought as well, green grass and lots of it! This is a handful of the bred heifers that will be looking for a new home this spring.

Bred heifers getting a little grazing in before the storm. I'm convinced the safest place for a calf to be in an April blizzard is inside its mama's tummy.

About Us

Hidden Prairie Ranch is a commercial family operation that is involved in almost every aspect of the cattle industry. We retain our own heifers, sell calves off the cow, background calves, finish calves out, sell cattle on a grid system, and run yearlings out on grass. We have had the opportunity to see firsthand what kind of genetics work in all these different situations. There are several important traits to look for in cattle, but in our mind, maternal efficiency and fertility trump everything else.

There are countless studies that show feed cost and bringing new cows into your herd as being the biggest expenses in any cattle operation. Sixty-dollar grid premiums are nice but they mean nothing if we spent an extra hundred dollars feeding that calf’s mother. The same could be said for extra pounds at weaning time. In the end, net profitability never lies. We put an emphasis on maternal traits while seeking to keep a balance on all other traits that add profit. Our biggest goal for you as a customer is for our cattle to add overall profitability to your operation.
