We are still looking for the owners of these two lovely ladies.
Our volunteers have named them Duchess and Princess.

What we know: They were found over in Lathrop running thru the cemetery, they are NOT chipped, they appear to be in very good health, and they seem to love any humans they come in contact with. They are pit mixes, and we believe fairly young.

If you are or know the owner, contact us via private message OR call the Plattsburg, Missouri Police Department @ 816-539-2148 for their release (must prove proof of ownership)

They will be on a 10 day stray hold before being put up for adoption.

Denver is still up for adoption with us at the pound!

He needs a home where he can learn that not everything is a trigger for anxious behavior. He LOVES people, but would do better with adults and older kids (we recommend 13 and older)

Denver is about 7-8 years old (at best guess) and about 60-70 pounds. Stout and strong, he could use some work while walking on a leash, but responds very well to a harness.

He would make a great running companion as he still has a LOT of energy and always seems to be 'ON THE GO'. And we honestly feel he would thrive the BEST as an only pet in the home so he can get the stimulation he needs to divert his anxiousness.

Send us a private message to set up a meet and greet with Denver!

We are getting into Tornado season.
We say this every year- if bad weather is heading your way- please get ahead of the stress and bring your pets inside. Make sure they have their collars on with identifying tags.

Stay weather aware and DO NOT WAIT for sirens to begin taking shelter and gathering belongings. It is far better to take shelter and have nothing happen than to wait until it’s too late.

This family was INCREDIBLY lucky- but this is too close for comfort.

Currently at the pound; found in Lathrop running thru the cemetery.
If they belong to you, please contact the pound or the Plattsburg, Missouri Police Department and we will set up a time with a volunteer to have them released. Proof of ownership is required before we release them (photos, vet records, etc.).

Anyone recognize these two cuties? They were running amuck in the cemetery, and would like to go back home. You can contact us or Plattsburg Pound Puppies, where they will be housed. Must be able to provide proof of ownership.

A huge thank you to some 2025 PHS Seniors for helping at the pound this morning! They cleaned, they walked, the scooped p**p, they organized, they treated, and they spoiled our dogs rotten today!

Always good to have some extra hands at the pound and to help with community service projects!

This beautiful girl, Cookie, was brought to us last Saturday (March 1st) and just in the last 3 days she has allowed us to touch her (with one hand only), get a new collar on her (with a little fight) and get a leash on her for a quick walk outside.

It wasn't easy and earning her trust is a HUGE work in progress.

This is high on the list of "volunteer frustrations".
Best guess is that 98% of the time, dogs that come to us are willing to be petted, walked, fed without fear of having their bowls taken away, and eager to interact with each volunteer that comes thru the door.
As for Cookie? She's not ready to let her guard down and continues to live in defense mode. We're patient, we'll work her thru it :)

This gorgeous German Shepherd (mix) is curious but cautious and we are giving her as much time as she needs to acclimate to the soft touch of a human hand. She's STRONG and doesn't have much experience on a leash, but she will get there.

She will eventually be put up for adoption, but we need to earn her trust first, then a car trip to the vet, then a full workup of her mannerisms.

What we know now: She does not like other female dogs, she's working thru her frustrations with the male dogs in the pound (even another GS). We feel she would do GREAT with kids, but NOT other animals (cats, other dogs, etc.)

Keep an eye on our page for updated information about her. When we feel she is ready, we will announce her as up for adoption.

We are looking for more volunteers to add to the schedule!
Spring is just around the corner and we would love for you to join us in the warm sunshine to help take care of our residents!

Walkers, cleaners, organizers, family volunteer opportunities, community service opportunities, A+ (for school) opportunities, extra exercise and fresh air for you and for the dogs in the pound.

Mornings, evenings, and weekend shifts available.
We prefer volunteers 16+ (working with their parent/guardian as well); some can tag team with an adult volunteer with the parent/guardian in attendance) (further information on volunteer age can be answered by contacting us in a separate message)

Download the application (link below) OR pick up a copy for the whole family at City Hall.

Our mini schnauzer Leo and our corgi Jonesy have chose to run off this morning. If you happen to see them please message or call me 816-809-7083

We let them out to go to the bathroom for about 15 minutes and when we called for them to come in they didn’t come.

Denver is up for adoption with our facility after being surrendered due to some recently developed behavior problems towards small children.

A GREAT dog overall, but has trouble with other animals (small and large, male and female) and would do much better in a household with older children (we recommend 13 and older).

Denver has some issues with being overly anxious in his environment and he does everything he can to be "somewhere else" where he is not overstimulated.

Previous owners have tried to socialize him with other larger dogs, but Denver feels the need to be the Alpha Male of the pack. He needs a family where he can have a lot of exercise and stimulation (rewarding activities) and where he can flourish in typical German Shepherd behavior (being alert, watchful, bonded to their family, and being an overall protector) without harming family members.

Families that are well versed in the breed are recommended (not required, but would be helpful so we can place him in a home successfully)

Contact us here or via private message to set up a meet and greet with Denver!

The phrase "it has to get worse before it gets better" is very true for this week! Temps will dip in the negatives before we see a warming trend (which can't come soon enough!)

Keep an eye on those pets while letting them out for bathroom breaks, keep them hydrated, and keep their paws and legs clean from their outdoor trips.

Pet Safe ice melt is a good solution, if you can't find it, be sure to find an alternate way to get your dogs out safely!

There are certain dog breeds that LOVE this weather, and there are certain dog breeds that shouldn't be out more than 2-3 minutes! Potty pads are a must with the little ones!

Stay warm and stay safe!

Our Mission

In January 2019 Plattsburg Pound Puppies was created and has served Plattsburg and Clinton County by caring for stray, abandoned, and lost dogs.

Our mission is to prevent the abandonment of dogs in the City of Plattsburg by accepting surrendered dogs from anywhere within Clinton County with the intent of re-homing these dogs at no taxpayer cost through volunteers operating the shelter supported by the City of Plattsburg.
