Sammy is approx 5-6 years old
Potty trained (has yet to mess in his kennel)
Loves long walks
He will need some attention paid to his teeth
He loves to show you his toys and chew bones up close
He plays well with a younger female at the pound, loves to run and pounce (but best with no toys involved)
Very muscular and in great health (heartworm negative and up to date on his shots)
Could use some leash training but he does pay attention to basic commands.

The cold weather and uneven terrain make it difficult for our pound puppies to get an extended workout.
Thanks to an amazingly generous donor (who wishes to remain private), a puppy treadmill was delivered to city hall for the pound puppies!
We assembled it last night and our doggos had their first try!
FAQ’s regarding the treadmill:
There is no motor or electronics. The dog is in complete control.
We do not force the dogs to run or to even walk unless they are comfortable.
We do not push them to run for an extended period of time.
We are training them to stop/sit on their own accord to they know they are in control.
This is an amazing asset to our puppers so they can burn off nervous kennel energy! Thank you so much!

This is our Tree of Second Chances. These dogs were adopted from our pound in 2023! We are forever grateful for the families who have given our pound puppies a second chance at knowing what a warm and loving home can be. We thank you for your patience and taking the time and small steps to help every dog adjust to their new home. The trainers you’ve hired, the techniques you learned. But most importantly- we thank you for loving these dogs as your own family. We love updates and seeing them cuddled up on the couch. We can only hope our sweet meathead Bender is just as lucky as the other dogs on this tree and finds a home for Christmas. When you are just "itching" to find a new home ...
Jersey LOVES to roll around like a wiggle worm on the rug we have at the pound. If you can stop her long enough, she also loves a good brushing and a rub down with a wash cloth.
We found out that she LOVES to do that right after she chases the hose around outside while we are trying to clean. SHE LOVES PLAYING IN THE WATER when it's being sprayed out of the hose.
The longer Jersey is with us, the more we can observe her quirks, likes, and dislikes. She is for sure a dog that wants to be your "one and only" While she doesn't "mind" other dogs, she would just like to not be bothered with other pets in her face and trying to engage in play with others. She likes to be the center of attention and will let you know when you are not moving fast enough to go for a long, exploring walk.

Meet Turbo, he's about a year old, high energy, likes cats and most other dogs. He is a wanderer so a good high solid fence would be recommended. He is behind on his vaccinations and will need to be updated soon.
**His current family is in dire need of giving him a good home where he can properly be taken care of.**

Sweet Skiz McGee ... An older gentleman that carries around his chewy-bone like Winston Churchill and his cigar.
The more we get to know this guy, the more we appreciate his mannerisms...he's always searching, always on the go, always wanting some sort of attention.
He's vocal, his tail should be registered as a deadly weapon, and he could be mistaken for a younger dog the way he plays and pounces (his 2nd favorite activity is tug-of-war with his leash!)

A video of the dogs we had in the pound this year. By far, 2022 was the most challenging year Plattsburg Pound Puppies ever. Thank you Melissa Fahlstrom for making the video!
We knew it would take a special someone to adopt Sadie- the mama of our litter of pups this past summer. She loved to sing the songs of her people.
We recently received an update that had us all singing along and laughing. It appears Sadie and her brother love duets! But it wouldn’t be a Sadie original without her unique solo at the end.
(We also LOVE her furever mama’s laughter!)
On the morning of Monday, July 18, 2022, two of our volunteers set off to start their morning shift only to discover that Sadie Mae had given birth to 8 healthy little babies!!!!!
Once they unwrapped all of them from the blanket in her whelping pool, they notified the rest of the volunteers letting them know that Sadie had 5 males and 3 females; all healthy, all a good size, and all nursing.
We ALL knew the hard work was about to begin. Long hours and extra shifts, modifications to the kennels, constant updates and ideas on how to clean and keep everyone healthy (the laundry alone was a huge undertaking!), the vet visits, the consultations with other shelters, not to mention the care and well-being of the other dogs in the pound with them!
Our rock star volunteers made extra sure that everyone was taken care of equally and then the search began. We dug in and hosted an adoption event for the pups (along with the other 3 dogs that were available), we fielded calls and private messages, we set up meetings and we rearranged personal schedules to meet with each and every one of the families that were interested in the puppies.
When the last pup went out the door, we all had a sense of relief knowing we sent them all to good homes and families that would love them as much as we did (and still do!)
Thank you to all the families that stepped in to give these puppies a new home and a new life outside the pound. It was an experience we are sure our volunteers and families will NEVER forget!!

Adoption Event at Community Courtyard!!!
UPDATE - BOTH ADOPTED - 07-10-2022
Halpert and Beasly are up for adoption!
We would love to see them go to one home together. They arrived at the shelter together and Are quite the sweet pair.
Both are spayed/neutered, are UTD on shots, heart worm negative.
Beasly is appx 4-5 years old, Halpert is 6-7.
They walk easily on a leash, get along with all humans and interact with dogs well. We do not know their history with cats.

Our pound puppies have been checked on throughout the night!
We gave them calming treats, have a fan and music playing and have given them lots of hugs. After the large display, a volunteer swung by to give them love. They are just as cheerful as ever. ❤️
