We are getting ready to start up Farm School next month. We have classes on Monday or Friday from 12:30-2:30 with just a few spots left. We will be studying the farm in spring! Horses need horsemen. It's that simple. I get asked the same questions over and over again and nobody gets it. What level rider is this horse suitable for? I'll tell you, the best one she can get, the best horseman that's willing to buy her. The horse will only ever be as good as the rider. It doesn't matter if it's trained to jump hoops of fire, you're gonna bring it down to your level in no time. Your kid doesn't need a $15,000 horse if they haven't already had $15,000 worth of lessons. You can't buy a violin that will gift you the skill of playing. It's the same for horses. There is no magic horse, only a love for the animal, and a commitment to learning.

Most of you are so unfair and demanding of the horse you miss the forest for the trees. "I want a horse that rides out alone!!" well guess what, you better be ready to spend a year developing that relationship, that bond, that trust, she's not a bike, you can't buy trust.

"I want a horse that can sit and be the same after time off" well friend, this is a commitment to a relationship, not a classic car you take out of the garage twice a year. You can't buy what your looking for.

"I want a horse my kids can ride" you better be ready to teach your kids how to be horseman, because if the horse has to do it, you'll likely see the inside of an ambulance, or a morgue.

You can't buy trust, you cannot buy what comes with building a relationship with an animal over years of dedication.

The sky was grey and the wind blustery as you drifted peacefully away. It's almost impossible to imagine this barn, this home without you here. You truly blessed so many lives! You forever hold our hearts because we watched as you took each child in your care and somehow changed them with your patient, gentle ways. You are special, because you allowed us all to fall in love with you and then in return you gave us the gift of letting us feel what it is like be loved by a horse!

Horse’s have this unique quality of being in the moment, not thinking of the past or predicting the future. Just being in the here and now. Taking every moment as it comes and responding accordingly, 𝒯𝒽𝑒𝓎 𝒶𝓇𝑒 𝑒𝓋𝑒𝓇𝓎𝓉𝒽𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝐼’𝓂 𝓃𝑜𝓉.

Horse’s can sense bad energies from a mile away, they have a good sense of character and won’t entertain anyone they don’t trust nor respect. 𝒯𝒽𝑒𝓎 𝒶𝓇𝑒 𝑒𝓋𝑒𝓇𝓎𝓉𝒽𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝐼’𝓂 𝓃𝑜𝓉.

Their presence can turn heads, stop traffic and warm the coldest of hearts. 𝒯𝒽𝑒𝓎 𝒶𝓇𝑒 𝑒𝓋𝑒𝓇𝓎𝓉𝒽𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝐼’𝓂 𝓃𝑜𝓉.

Courageous, they can spend everyday with someone who takes without giving back, with someone who doesn’t notice they are in pain or feeling down. Yet, they still show up without any hesitation or argument. 𝒯𝒽𝑒𝓎 𝒶𝓇𝑒 𝑒𝓋𝑒𝓇𝓎𝓉𝒽𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝐼’𝓂 𝓃𝑜𝓉.

“How much weight can a horse carry?

In my experience, a horse can carry an infinite amount.

They can carry the weight of broken hearts, broken homes, and broken bodies. Countless tears sometimes comb their tangled manes. Moments when parents and friends cannot be there to help and hold a person, horses embrace and empower. They carry physical, mental, and emotional handicaps. They carry hopes and dreams; and they will carry the stress from your day when you can't carry it anymore.

They carry graduations, they carry new careers, they carry moves away from everything familiar, they carry marriages, they carry divorces, they carry funerals, they carry babys before they are born, and sometimes they carry the mothers who cannot carry their own baby. They carry mistakes, they carry joy, they carry the good and they carry the bad. They carry drugs and addictions, but they also carry the celebrations.

They will carry you to success when all you have felt is failure. They will carry you, never knowing the weight of your burdens and triumphs.

If you let them, they will carry you through life, and life is hard, life is heavy. But a horse will make you feel weightless under it all.”

Idea for Spring Pick up Party activity

Add pool noodles and baling twine for easy, cheap, and safe raised poles that won’t roll.
One noodle makes 4 “ends” and you can move the raised poles without needing to reposition blocks under each pole end.

I know you want to protect them from the hardships of this world.
I know you want to give them success and good experiences.
I know you don't want to see them get hurt. To see them fall. To see them fail.
But, hear me out, let your child have a bad ride.
Let them cry the tears of frustration.
Let them shake the sand out from the inside of their riding pants.
Let them face the fear building inside of them.
Let them step back on again.
Yes, let your child have a bad ride.
Let them hate the horse that challenges them.
Let them learn what fight and passion and ambition mean.
Let them realize that when they refuse to quit the horse will take the time to listen.
Grant them the joy of realizing that they are connecting with another living being.
Grant them the joy of realizing that they, although they are small, can be powerful.
Grant them the joy of seeing their hard work pay off, through the days of tears can come a love unspeakable.
Yes, let your child have a bad ride.
Afterall, life will grant us plenty of them.’
