Winterlake Welsh Cob Farm was begun in 1984 when my family moved to Pleasant Hill, 10 miles SE of Eugene. After buying a fabulous Welsh pony gelding for our son, I wanted an adult-sized Welshy. I found *Okeden Jolly in the UK and she was delivered in 1985; a Llanarth-bred cob c**t from Canada, Brynarian Black Magic, was my first stallion. Wanting to market this amazing breed to equestriennes, I was inspired by *Kentchurch Chime, a dressage cob owned and imported by Mary Alice Williams in Texas. Jolly made a splash as a dressage horse and also a broodmare. From humble beginnings, I began producing cobs for driving and dressage. In 2001, friend and fellow cob breeder Carol Holcombe, called and told me her prized cob mare, Hastening Mirage, had just foaled a c**t. “You’ve got to see this one!” When I put my eyes on North Forks Cardi, it was a combination of factors that made me say, “I want him!” Over the years, Cardi has been the BEST ambassador for the Welsh breed in dressage performance and as a sire. He is a once in a lifetime boy and still producing for me and many others.
