Happy Winter Wonderland! Not to brag, but we have a couple of pretty cute fat headed dogs that really need families! These 2 dogs are "polar" opposites! 🤭 And 1 kitten! He's the last of our litter that probably never should have survived! They all did, and they thrived!

Shelby, 6y/F, is pretty calm and sweet and wants to be your snuggle buddy. She can get along with some dogs. ABSOLUTELY NO CATS. She's short and wide. A house hippo, if you will. She's fully vetted and microchipped!

Steven, 2-3y/M, is a wild child. He knows a ton of commands, but needs a strong handler and rules. He's been around toddlers and was great with them. I know this because they were with him when he was brought in. He's a power house. He'll do just about anything for a treat! Steven is fully vetted and we've got some training tools that can go home with him. I believe the shelter itself is his biggest obstacle! Due to his stress level and the lack of candidates, I haven't really been able to dog test Steven. He seems to hate everything that has more than 2 legs here. BUT that could absolutely be a shelter thing.

Blitzen/Blizzard, 12 weeks/M, is the fastest boy ever! He's not very needy. He loves to play, let's you hold him for a little while, then he's running again! He's been neutered. He started his life outside, we'd really like to find him a home inside. This kid deserves better than what he started with!❤️

Happy Friday! Just want to remind everyone that dogs of all ages and sizes love the first snow! They run. Even your tiny chihuahua that never leaves the yard may get the zoomies in the snow! Cars can not slow down fast enough to avoid hitting animals. Animals that are not normally loose may be scared and react aggressively out of fear when approached by strangers.

The snow may come or it may not. It is Missouri. 🤷‍♀️ Play it safe. Double check your gates, as the winds are supposed to pick up over the weekend. Take your dogs out on a leash. Stand outside with them, or watch them from the door. Animal Control is in and out of the shelter on the weekends, but doesn't respond to calls of service, usually. Although our police officers do respond to animal calls, please keep in mind that our police officers will more than likely have bigger issues with this weather that is moving in. Any animal that lives outside is required to have suitable shelter that is dry inside, fresh water and food. Please be safe and check on your neighbors!

Missy is a Minnie Australian shepherd. Wearing a pink collar. She's brown and white. She took off this morning in town. Her owners had reported her missing. She was spotted at one point, but never called in. We did get word that she was downtown, and then headed west on 58 highway. I've followed her down a long driveway between Hickory Grove Road and Oakland. Those are literally the only roads on either side of this drive way! Please keep your eyes open and CALL!!!! Luckily she wasn't hit on the highway! Her parents are out here looking for her! I dont think she'll let you approach, she's pretty scared. She should be getting tired by now. 816.540.9109

This tiny tot needs a home. Seriously. She's a little crazy, but aren't we all? I tried for at least 20 minutes to get a photo of her being calm. This is the best we could come up with. She's got things to do. About 10 weeks old. About 12 pounds. Puppy shots are current. She needs new people and pets. 816.540.9109

Steven. Big baby boy. His manners have come so far, thanks to someone taking time out of their evenings to work with him! Steven will do ANYTHING for a treat! He's housetrained, but marking here. (normal) He's scheduled for his neuter. He was brought in by a family who said they found him. He was excellent with their toddlers. He takes treats with a soft mouth. He's high energy, but he's doing great! He's come so far! He doesn't seem to be much of a chewer. We leave appropriate chew toys in his kennel and he doesn't touch them. He plays with anything squeaky! He's very nosey, and does have to be reminded to get down when he jumps up to look at the counter tops. 🤷‍♀️ I mean i dont leave food out at my house for just such reasons! This big kid has been failed by someone somewhere. He just wants to please you, he's just never been put in a structured environment! Give big boy a chance!

We have captured the elusive couch hippo! Shelby is 6 years old. She's a doll! She's great with people, not a fan of most other animals, but can be introduced. You never know! Her perfect family is out there somewhere! Her favorite past times are rolling in the grass, laying her head in your lap, getting her daily zoomies in and getting all the treats!

Shelby has a microchip. After many phone calls, that's how we determined her age and name. She once lived in Independence. She's had puppies at some point. She's the "popular" squatty, blue pittie that the backyard breeders love. She's spayed now. She's had 2 masses removed from a back leg. The giant ugly one was nothing. The little skin tag looking thing was actually cancer! It was a very slow growing cancer and the vet was comfortable that it was gone. I think Shelby has had a pretty rough life. She doesn't act like it. She's the best. She's sweet, house trained, has manners. She's never one time acted aggressive towards people. If you'd like to meet Shelby, give us a call! 816.540.9109

THIS BOY WENT HOME!

This guy was picked up west of BB on 175th. Approx 175th and Gray Drive. That's several miles outside of our jurisdiction. Please share with any friends/family in that area. I believe him to be a basenji mix. I base this not only on his looks, but his lack of barking. He doesn't bark. He will cry out. Due to his found location, his owners may not even frequent our city if they don't have student enrolled in our school district, making their search for him much harder.

Someone brought this boy into the police department and dropped him off. They said he was chasing a trash truck. Dispatcher was busy and unable to get location. Hes got a noticeable scar on his back. Anyone? 816.540.9109

This little fatty mcfatterson was brought in this morning, Monday 10-28. Finder said chunky boy was near Lexington and Myrtle. He's possibly 8 weeks, around 12 #. As adorable and squishy as he is, he is a baby. He shouldn't be in a shelter! We just got the last of the last litter out of here! He's safe, fed and free to tear up whatever he wants. Lil Bean is freaking adorable! He's so sweet. He was left at our shelter after the caller was rold we couldn't take dogs from county. (near East Lynn). Bean might be a year old. He's about 15 #. Loves everyone. Just the cutest thing ever! You can't leave this menace outside unattended, because he's going to find his way out. The beagle genetics do that. We don't know what he's mixed with. He's always easy going and just plops right on over for belly rubs! He's played with the puppies once, they understandably got on his nerves. Bean is just too small for us to let him play with any of the other dogs! Come be his hero, he needs one! 816.540.9109

Stacy is STILL not adopted?!?!😭 We've learned that she gets along with almost EVERY dog at dog parks! She may not be a fan of cats. We're still not certain. She does fine with the shelter cats, but really disliked the cat at the vets office. She's super house trained, she doesn't tear things up, she's the best girl ever! Seriously the most adoptable dog I know! Make it make sense that she's here!

I just want to add to Stacy's post! A volunteer has been taking Stacy to our local dog park. Shes done FANTASTIC! Not only with his dog, but with every dog that she's met there. She just runs and plays! She gets super excited everytime she sees his van pull in the driveway! So her dog selectiveness seems to really only be at the shelter, which is very normal!

Stacy is the sweetest girl. She gets overlooked, a lot. She's "just another pit bull". That's not her fault. Her story is awful. It doesn't have to continue to be, though. She just hasn't met her people yet! They're out there. Stacy is house trained. Loves all people. Dog selective. And that's ok. You don't like everyone, do you? C'mon, don't lie. 🤭 Shes the sweetest kid! Loves belly rubs and ear scratches. She hates it here. She's starting to lose weight. 😢 If you've ever thought of fostering, this girl would be an excellent starter dog for that! You can take her places on a leash. She's smart, loves car rides. This teeny tiny kitty came in with a litter. She's obviously the runt! I honestly didn't think she was going to live past the first night. She did. She's been here a week! So she stays in a kennel with her brother who keeps her warm. I think these kids are about 3-4 weeks old. There are 5 total. These 2 will be a bonded pair. She's not completely out of the woods yet. As long as she eats the horrible looking soup I make and keeps pooping, that's all we can ask for! I never thought cat poop would make my day, but here we are! We'll keep you posted on when litter is ready for their new homes!

Awww. Winnie LOVES the water! She's finally calming down. Winning is probably right at a year old. She's already been spayed, she's vaccinated, and she loves playing with the other dogs. Winnie has energy for days! Supersmart. Just a short girl out here doing her best! She'd really love a couch to crash out on after a long day at the pool!
