How do you do farm chores with a BABY dog? You go full Mrs. Trunchbull with the belt on the outside and everything. I can hold the puppy, she isn’t crying, she’s warm while I’m working outside, and she’s safe from anything that might think she looks like a pre-bedtime snack because of her small size.

The downside is you don’t look very cool, but the upside is you have a puppy in your hoodie…

***Last Update***

We notified several local neighborhood pages and everyone came through for Jasper and shared his post far and wide. Unfortunately, this sweet boy stayed with me two days and nobody stepped forward to claim him. The Warren County Dog Warden took him to the shelter on Cook Road in Lebanon this morning when he will be vetted and placed for adoption. Thank you all for your help!

*Update*

The dog is chipped. The last registered name is Jasper from 2019. I have reached out to the registered owners through the chip company and hopefully they will contact me back. He is fed, safe, and appears to be in good condition. His coat is soft, nails are an acceptable length, and he is very sweet. This is someone’s pet, who obviously hasn’t been on the run too long because he’s still clean and has a good body condition.

This black and white dog has been running around the Pleasant Plain area for at least the last day. One of our amazing deputy sheriffs was able to catch it and bring them to us. It is currently safe in one of our kennels. We will be scanning for a microchip later this afternoon. I have seen lots of posts on the local pages where the dog has been spotted, but I can’t find anything that says where it’s home is. If anyone knows anything, please let me know and I’ll reach out to the owners! Please share far and wide and let’s find this pup’s home!

Today is Hexie’s first day out with the big dogs…not literally large canines, but well-trained, impressive dog-teams. I prepped for the upcoming proclivities by wearing the only shirt appropriate for working a dog like her…she prepped by stealing her brother’s breakfast, and he prepped by watching her lazily from the comfort of his own bed, because he’s done this game a time or ten, and knows the drill…

When the neighbors see someone creeping in the woods, you temporarily take the big guy off medical restrictions and put him to work cause even on light duty, he’ll get the job done faster than any of us could. A well trained and maintained home defense dog is worth more than their weight in gold. Won’t hesitate to engage, and switches back to derp mode at the snap of a finger. It took him about 2 and a half minutes to find her in approximately 20 acres of woods. This is the dog of a lifetime.

Side note, we met one of the other neighbors who was just enjoying a stroll through her section of the woods! She is very nice. Born and raised right here in Pleasant Plain. I love country living.

October was the best month I think I’ve ever had. Our mentor and close friend, Athena, deployed with two of her dogs, K9 Joey and K9 Gypsy, to North Carolina to help recover the dead. She was attached to the NC Trooper’s K9 Association until being reassigned by FEMA to other areas. I’m so grateful for her friendship, her knowledge, her huge heart, and her tutelage. We could not do any of this without her. The world should be grateful that people like this exist.

My dad came and stayed with Dan and I for a whole MONTH! It was great to have so much time to spend with him. All the dogs, especially Summer, just LOVE him! We are so incredibly fortunate to still have him around. I am the luckiest daughter in the world. Dan and I learned lots of new things from him, and he even changed the oil and filters in my mower.

Our extended family was able to join us for a wonderful, simple weekend after the wedding. It was so nice to have everyone together.

Fall means PUMPKINS! John and Sara grew some cute pie pumpkins that we can’t wait to eat! I got my first experience with Wygu beef, and boy is it worth the price tag. If you’re a beef lover, put this on your bucket list!

Dan and I got married in a private, backyard ceremony. This was the happiest day of my life. Those of you fortunate enough to have met him, you know how amazing he is. He works tirelessly with me, behind the scenes, helping me scrub kennels, feed dogs, wash bowls, whatever needs done. This man is the muscle behind the kennel!

We added chicks and turkeys to the farm! The chicks were a lovely gift from our friends Posie and Colter, the cane corso puppies. I have enjoyed watching the chicks grow up and change, and can’t wait to see what the end up looking like once they’re adults!

This handsome stud has his teeth cleaning scheduled for tomorrow, so of course we had to give him a bath before his appointment…Dan thought it was strange when I suggested he put on some goggles before I started the blow dry portion of the bath, and then laughed when I pulled out my spitsock… enjoy his candid capture of how I keep hair out of my eyes during a blowout 😂 also, he tapped out and exited stage left about halfway through the blowout due to hair flying around 😂 😂

Believe it or not, this is the same dog one year apart… none of this would have been possible without the world’s most dedicated and compassionate vet staff. They always make time for her, for my late night intrusions with stupid questions or concerns, and one of my amazing techs even stayed at my house for a week right after Hexie moved in to take care of her because I had a vacation already planned when she crashed into my world. And perhaps most valuable of all, they are honest with me about everything-expenses, medical realities, referrals, whatever I need. A dog’s care is a team effort, and if you don’t have an A-Team vet staff in your corner, you are doing your dog an inexcusable disservice.

Tin Star Kennels is excited to share that we have combined households and officially brought more feet into the family. Thank you to our family and closest friends who made the hike into the backyard last night to celebrate with us. Everybody got a celebratory tequila shot at the end, and Hexie got a matching tequila bottle squeaky toy, which obviously she was NOT going to share with anyone 😂
