Hexie is having a rough go with her spring allergies. We’re back to bathing every day to see if this helps! Send good vibes to the cutest little crime bag 🖤

But just so we’re clear, she is still a full time menace…

🔥🔥🔥 Where are my lab lovers?! 🔥🔥🔥

This is Hershey, and he is looking for a forever home. He all up to date on vaccines and is neutered. Hershey is 7 years old, but he's a Labrador and still loves to get outside and see people. He is a heavier boy and needs to go on a weight loss plan. He has lost 50 lbs and still needs to go another 40 lbs or so. Please call or text Jessica Huggins 513-968-5433.

Note-Jessica is a member of our beloved vet staff, and not the owner of the dog. She is acting as an intermediary between the family and the public.

I am happy to donate as much time as necessary to help ensure a smooth transition for this lucky boy into his new home. We know that adding another pack member is never without stress, and we want to help support Hershey and his lucky human-to-be any way we can!

You can call or text me or Jessica!

Thanks!
Reil

Little Hexie and I had some errands to run today and one of them took place at Tractor Supply. Hexie has zero self control and was trying to 5 finger discount some treats, so she got to ride in the shopping cart, which quickly became a very good distraction and environmental training exercise for her.

I am so, so, so happy to announce that Jasper, the 5 year old Bluetick Coonhound who stayed with us for a few days while he was on the lam a couple of months ago has found his forever home!!!!!

After he was surrendered to the Warren County Humane Society, you guys did such a great job sharing his story that he got adopted within a couple of days. However, a mere two hours into that adoption, he “growled” at one of the household members and they returned him immediately. I happened to be in the shelter, speaking with Joanne Hurley-their absolute angel on earth who runs that place-when she got the call. To say we were both devastated was an understatement.

Fortunately, Joanne is both a realist and an experienced animal person, and she recognizes that not only was Jasper stressed due to the week on the run he’d had prior to going “home,” but he most likely didn’t “growl” at them and instead did that bay that anyone with a hound knows so well. If you aren’t familiar with hounds, they’re NOISY. ALL THE TIME. It’s hilarious if you’re not trying to sleep 😂 She also factors in the scenario that caused the “growl,” and is more than fair to the dog, and doesn’t just blindly believe the person. Because of all of these things, and because I had already told her that he was a perfect gentleman for me the several days he stayed with me, she was able to advocate for him and put him back up for adoption.

Yesterday, his new mom reached out to my personal page to let me know that he is safe and very, very loved. She shared these pictures with me, and I think it’s safe to say that Jasper hit the jackpot. She has asked to remain anonymous at this time, and we will of course respect those wishes.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, kind lady, who gave this noisy gentleman a chance. TSK is proud to offer you a lifetime of support in your relationship with Jasper. We are so happy that you both found each other!

Today driving into work, the thermometer said -11, so this is everyone's friendly reminder that as much as your pooches might love to play in the snow, it is important to limit their exposure to the bitter air, despite what they might think...Potty break time outside should be limited, and if they get wet from romping in the snow or if they somehow manage to find water that isn't frozen, it is extremely important that you dry them off immediately when they come inside.

Smaller dogs, older or sick dogs, and dogs with thinner coats will likely require additional support during temperatures like this, including coats or booties.

I have included photos of my monochromatic pack enjoying their play time outside this week, as well as a chart that I shamelessly stole from www.thevets.com that does an excellent job breaking down temperature ranges for worrying pet parents. I also included a picture from exactly one year ago today of Hexie in her little hoodie because not only have we spent the last year healing her body, but also healing her mind and bridging gaps in her training. Part of setting a solid foundation on a dog means giving them a chance to be a puppy, and that means playing in the snow...with the additional support of thrifted winter clothing...she's a little boy's size medium if anyone was wondering...

Enrichment in the house will save your sanity if you have high drive dogs, puppies, or dogs who don't want to laze about and sleep all day...

Drop your favorite indoor enrichment ideas below!

***This is a standard PSA for the average pet...Working livestock dogs, sled dogs, etc. have a higher tolerance for cold, and people that actually work these dogs are bending over backwards to provide warm shelter, fresh straw, etc. to keep their animals safe. If you see a working livestock dog, I guarantee that they're okay...***

Tin Star Kennels is heartbroken to notify everyone of the loss of one of our beloved pack members yesterday. Bernie, the world's shortest gentleman, recently developed an aggressive form of cancer and was put to sleep in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his favorite toys and those who loved him most.

Please keep everyone in your thoughts, especially his canine brother, Sammy, as they grieve the tremendous weight of loving him and putting his needs before their own, even at the cost of shattered hearts.

Enjoy some of the cutest moments captured below of the sweetest, little gentleman. We are so grateful to his family for trusting us with his care, and were honored to open our home and our hearts to him and his brother.
