Good evening Connecticut folks! I'm looking for anyone that has a Sheltie (or 3 or 4!) . Just looking for some basic information. Please text me at 860-309-7228 and I'll call you back!

If you or someone you know is a pet parent that lives alone with pets, PLEASE make sure that you have plans for your pets in the event that you die before they do. Each day with your pets is a gift for you. But every minute that they spend with your lifeless body is a nightmare for them. They are incapable of understanding why you stopped moving. Or why they aren't being fed & watered. They don't want to p*e or p**p in the house, but they do, knowing that you'll be disappointed in them. Hopefully your body is found quickly. Someone calls for a wellbeing check because you haven't been seen or heard from you in a couple of days or longer. Then comes all of the police and EMS/ambulance workers. Loud voices, radios going off. Everyone is rushing around at first. The dogs don't understand whats happening, but they know something terribly wrong is going on. The police notify us, animal control, that there are pets in the home that need to be picked up and cared for accordingly. We arrive on scene. We know about the deceased owner. We try to calm the pets to the best of our abilities, which seems almost impossible. They're scared. Rightfully so. We take a quick look on the refrigerator door and in the egg tray of the refrigerator to see if the owner had left any emergency contact information for the pets. Nothing is found in either place. At this point we know absolutely nothing about the animals in the home. The dogs weren't licensed, so we don't know their names, ages, or if they are up to date. We know nothing of their medical history. We don't know what they love or what they dislike. Since we can't locate this information, we pray that someone will know the next of kin and we'll get that important information. What? No next of kin? No known relatives... Back to square one. On the other hand, we find the next of kin. Lives a distance away. Knows nothing about the pets. Can't or won't take the pets. Has no knowledge of any medical conditions or brand of foods fed to the pets. No known next of kin? Now we have to hold the dogs in the kennel and place an ad in the local paper looking for any living relatives. No one answers the ad in the coming 10 days. Back to square one. And the dogs are so confused about life. They don't understand why they went from living a great life at home to this. Kennel life. It's awful. They start getting depressed and its showing. Now we try to locate an honorable rescue or a family to accept these damaged babies. And damaged they are. They're broken. Their hearts need fixing. Their minds need mending. Time. They'll need time to adjust, right? Thats what we all say. They'll just need time. Well let me tell you something. These dogs don't just heal on their own. They need lots of help, for a long time. But don't worry, dear reader. With the right people involved, they will eventually heal from their tragic loss of their beloved companion, you. The process is long and oftentimes even painful for them. Much of this process can be alleviated. I truly hope and pray that you don't pass away before your pets. But if you do, and especially if you live alone with them, please, for the sake of your dogs, cats, caged pets, fish and whatever else you may have, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE take the time to write out an itemized list of all of the pets inside AND outside of the home. Let us know the type of pets, the breed, the ages, the s*x, any medical conditions, any veterinary information, any do's and don'ts. List other living relatives and contact information that you want to have charge of your pet's care or their disposition. If you know that there are no other living relatives or people to care for your pets immediately upon your death, leave us a note stating as such and give us the legal right to re-home your pets. Basically, leave us everything that you feel we should know about your loved ones and how you want us to care for them. Leave this in an envelope on your refrigerator door titled "PETS", or in a sealed plastic container in or under your egg compartment in the refrigerator. I promise you; I will look for that information, in those locations. Please, for the love of your animals, help me help your pets.

Honoring Firefighter Colin James McFadden
July 20, 1995 - August 12, 2021

On a crisp morning in New Hartford, Connecticut, the flames danced with an intensity that would forever etch a name into our hearts: Colin James McFadden. Born on July 20, 1995, Colin’s life was a symphony of courage, compassion, and unwavering dedication.

Colin’s path was forged by the fire service—a calling that beckoned him from an early age. As a child, he reveled in the symphony of sirens, his keen ears detecting their distant wail long before others. Little did we know that this fascination would lead him to don the uniform, to become one of our own.

Colin was more than a firefighter; he was a beacon of light. His quirky humor, infectious laughter, and willingness to jump into action defined him. When the alarm sounded, Colin sprinted to the truck, ensuring he secured a seat. His commitment was unwavering, his spirit unyielding.

But life has its secrets, and Colin carried one silently—a form of leukemia that remained undiagnosed until that fateful day. As he fought the historic New Hartford House Fire, his body betrayed him. Rushed to John Dempsey Hospital, he underwent emergency surgery, but fate had other plans. On August 12, 2021, Colin James McFadden left us, leaving a void that can never be filled.

The fire service isn’t just about hoses and helmets; it’s a brotherhood, a sisterhood. We mourned as one when Colin left us. A procession of emergency vehicles escorted him to his final resting place, a salute to the firefighter who gave his all. Gov. Ned Lamont ordered flags to half-staff—a somber tribute to our fallen hero.

Colin’s legacy burns brighter than any flame. His advocacy for autism awareness, his rank as an Eagle Scout, and his dedication to public safety—all woven into the tapestry of his too-short life. We remember his laughter and kindness.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, we stood together—firefighters, friends, and community—paying homage to Colin. The bagpipes played their mournful tune, and we whispered our gratitude. For Colin James McFadden, the fire may have dimmed, but his light will forever guide us.

From our dear friends at Saving Animals Southern Style Rescue & Sanctuary

Rescue, done right.

" Are you coming back?

Remember me? You couldn't wait to have me. I was so small and cute and I was FREE. You thought about getting me fixed,
but I was a baby and that was a long way off. We were best friends. Then you started packing, and I was excited, we were
going to go on an adventure. And then you were gone, and l am still here. I am hungry and wet. Are you coming back?

When you take on a pet, you are taking
on a life and a moral and legal
responsibility to take care of that life.
Please don't abandon pets. Be a decent human. Be the person your pet deserves!! "

It's that time of year again! The 4th of July is the single worst day for "my dog ran off" calls.
Please, as much as we all hate the guy next door for lighting off the fireworks, keep your dog inside! Make them as comfortable as possible. Perhaps you can take your dog's out for a ride to an area where there are no fireworks.
We, humans, have to do better to keep our pets anxiety to a minimum, everday, not just on the 4th of July.

The world of animal control has lost a true animal welfare warrior. Gary Wilson was a kindhearted friend that always put others first. He kept himself busy by always doing for others.
Rest in paradise my friend .... Until we meet again.

Obituary for Gary A. Wilson
Gary A. Wilson, 61, passed away after a short battle with Pancreatic Cancer. He leaves behind many associates and friends, especially Barbara Galica, Tina Binheimer, Jennifer Miller (Tim), Rob Wilson (Evelyn), as well as two beloved Golden Retrievers Max and Kash, who were all at his side assisting him through his final journey. Gary also leaves step siblings Colleen Lozier (Jay Griffin) and Ted Williams, as well as his friends since childhood Jack and Kent Dungfelder. He was predeceased by his father Curtis Wilson and mother Madeline “Joyce” (Haynes) Wilson. Gary was a true Patriot and loved his country. He served in the US Navy from 1981 to 1985 and Navy Reserves from 1985 to 1987 as an Aviation Structural Mechanic working on the VS-28 Gamblers. During those years, Gary had multiple deployments to Beirut, Lebanon as well as Grenada during Operation Urgent Fury and was proud to be aboard “his ship”, the USS Independence (CV-62). Gary honorably discharged at the rank of AME3 and earned Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (2 awards), Navy Unit Commendation, Navy Expeditionary Ribbon (2 awards), and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. Besides his country, Gary’s passion was protecting animals. He did this over his years by working in many roles such as Animal Cruelty Investigator for the CT Humane Society, Municipal Animal Control Officer for several towns, and Animal Inspector. The last five years prior to his passing, Gary worked as a State Animal Control Officer for the CT Department of Agriculture of which he was the most proud of. Besides his country, friends, and animals, Gary loved helping his community. He did this in various ways, however, he is most proud of being a member of the Stafford Fire Department No. 1 as an Engineer, EMR, attended many school events and Safety Days as well as being member of Tolland County Dive Team, both of which he was still an active member. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2024 from 3:00-5:00 PM at Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., 51 East Main St., Stafford Springs, CT. Burial will be held at a later date at the State of Connecticut Veterans' Cemetery, Middletown, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to an animal rescue charity of choice, or to Stafford Fire Department No. 1, P.O. Box 147, Staffordville, CT 06077. What amazes me most about natural phenomenons is that the entire forest is quiet. They know something is happening but don't know what. You could literally hear a pin drop here.
