Nelli says therapy dog training is harder than you think. LOL We completed our evaluation today. We just need to send in our membership application to be official.

If you have any desire to do therapy work with your dog, give it a try! The dogs need to like people, let people pet them, be comfortable in a hospital setting and not show any aggression. The handlers need to follow the rules and be attentive to their dogs and the people they are visiting.

There is definitely a need for more therapy dogs, especially small ones. We did our training through the Alliance of Therapy Dogs. Let me know if you are interested!

Interesting read...

Marketplace sent the DNA of two mixed-breed dogs, one purebred dog and one human to four different dog DNA companies. Nearly all the results were different.

Still time to register!

Join us at Schuyler County Humane Society, 17000 County Farm Road in Rushville, for our Spring Dog Obedience Classes. The classes will be taught by Dannette Phelps from Dog Training by Danette. This will be a four week course occurring every Tuesday starting May 17th at 5:45 pm (so the class schedule will be May 17th, May 24th, May 31st and June 7th). The cost is $55.00 for all four weeks. Please have with you a choke collar or a prong collar, no harnesses or retractable leashes! If you can’t make the first class, you may start the following week.

Even if you have taken this class before it’s a wonderful way to refresh your skills and a great way to socialize your dog! We have no age limit other than your dog should be at least 2 months old. Dog must be current on vaccines and rabies shots.

Rushville obedience class starts tomorrow, Tuesday, May 10! Still taking registrations! If you are interested, bring your dog, vaccination records and payment to the Schuyler County Humane Society at 5:45. Class is 6-7 p.m. on Tuesdays for 4 weeks. Cost is $55.
You may also contact the Humane Society, but they may not have a chance to respond before class.

If you have contacted me about classes and I have not gotten back to you yet, please be patient. My time is very limited and many people are inquiring.

If you are interested in a class, please text or message me through here with the location of your choice and your email address and I will send info when it is available. I will not have dates for Macomb or Rushville for possibly another month. They are taught outside and are dependent on the end of winter.

I am trying to get back to those interested in the Carthage class, since it starts first. I wasn't aware it was posted, so am trying to get forms etc. put together now.

I have a full plate and not a lot of time, but am trying to continue with classes as there is a need in this area. Please be patient as this is a courtesy that I provide outside of a full-time job and family commitments. I am doing what I can, when I can. Thank you for your understanding.

UPDATE 6/18/20:
Due to the number of people wanting to attend obedience class and the current restrictions of 10 people per gathering, I have decided to postpone the start of the class by two weeks. I am hopeful that we can advance to phase 4 of the reopening of Illinois by the end of next week, so I don't have to turn people away.

With July 2nd being the start of a 3 day weekend for some, class will begin Thursday, July 9th. At this point, I am planning two sessions - 6:30-7:30 and 7:30-8:30. If you have not sent me your email address, please do so. I will try to respond to all messages over the next few days. I appreciate your patience. Thank you.
