***RABIES TEST UPDATE - THIS RACCOON TESTED POSITIVE FOR RABIES TODAY - KNOWING THE INITIAL LOCATION OF THIS RACCOON IS EXTREMELY CRITICAL***

***URGENT REQUEST!***

Raccoon rabies has not been detected in Barnstable County since a single case in 2021, and prior to that, 2013! This animal will be tested for rabies tomorrow, but we need to figure out where it came from. Porcupines haven't been documented on the Cape since 2010, and even at that time they were incredibly rare. In areas where raccoons and porcupines coexist, there is a positive correlation between raccoons with quills in them and having rabies!
