After spending the first several weeks of their life outdoors, Little Bear, Cheeseburger, S'more, and Niblet needed to learn how to trust and interact with people. After giving them time to settle into their space, their foster mom got to work socializing the kittens. One of the fastest ways to a kitten's heart is through their stomach! When we work with feral or under socialized kittens, food is one of the most effective tools we have when it comes to building trust with them. We begin by serving them wet food on a long spoon, and work our way up to hand feeding. The food acts as an incentive for them to come closer to us while also teaching them that the extra tasty food comes from us! As you can see, our kitten friend, Cheeseburger, is a big fan of these Churu treats!

It is so rewarding to see how far these babies have come in a few short weeks! They came into rescue fearful of people, and are now happy to eat baby food right off of their foster mom's fingers! They are still working on their comfort level with new people, but will be ready for adoption very soon. We can't wait to officially introduce each of them to you!

As they grow more trusting and confident, we can move to a shorter spoon and/or even allow them to eat directly out of our hands!
As we're sure you can imagine, during kitten season we go through a LOT of kitten food! To prevent any digestive upset, we do our best to stick with the same food for the kittens and we are currently feeding Kitten Fancy Feast - Turkey. The babies are purring!! 😻 This is such a rewarding moment when working with under-socialized cats. While they still have a ways to go until they are ready for adoption, they have made amazing progress in such a short time all thanks to their sweet foster mom!
